So far all the reviews for this product have been from people who have only played the beta version. Anarchy Online just went live on June 27, 2001, anyone who wrote a review posted before that date is talking about the Beta version. I have played the full and complete version for a few days now, and it's a great game!! BUT, and a big BUT, this game is very faulty. Funcom still has many bugs to work out, and it will take quite some time before they fix everything. Many people can't even get online, and the technical support is very bad!
The first day i had the game, i crashed probably 20 times, and i have great computer. Everyone is crashing. And Funcom is shuting down the servers every night for patches. Once you install the game you have to spend about 2 hours downloading patches.
As far as the actual game goes, if you like online games, this is like nothing you have ever played. You could play this game for a year and never see and do everything. The playing field and layout is huge. And it's only going to get bigger. The bottom line.......
If you are willing to put up with all the hassles (and there is a lot), and have lots of patients, then this game is great! But if you are not in any rush, I would wait another month or two until Funcom has worked out all the bugs.

I played asheron's call for months, and some of my friends tried EQ. I've only been in beta of this for a few hours, but it has tons of potential. Many missions are generated at the time you recive them making them unique and unable to be camped. The story of the game is completly dependant on the people playing the game with the whole Clans Vs Omni thing, which should be a lot of fun when it gets released. I havn't explored every aspect of this game yet obviously, but if they fix a few of the bugs, and then continue to do semi-regular good updates, on a monthy basis or so, the retail version should be great.

I tried the 7 day trial and ordered it. It's a great game if you love to solo, and the diversity is impressive. You look around and there is so much to see. I have yet to see two players that look the same. Right now I am at the stage of trying different race/class/alignment combinations to determine which one I will level up. I have yet to engage in PvP or group for that matter. I am anxiously awaiting implementation of team missions. I have also found the intricacies of the game fascinating. It will be a while before this bores me. I find this game stimulates my imagination.
The flaws are many, disconnects frequent, but in spite of that still worth the time, as I believe Funcom is doing their best to rectify many of the problems.
Nice game but some bugs still

Ok. I downloaded Anarchy Online from the website about a month ago and have played it quite a bit. I can certainly agree with the negative reviews that people have. My system, though, seems to work quite well (Dual Pentium 3 933Mhz, 512 MG RAM, ATI Radeon All In Wonder, and a T10 connection). Ok so I have a high end system and good bandwidth. The game is fun with this system so it can work well but there is lag and bugs still to be found (can't brawl after unequiping rifle). Yes, also it seems like a game where you level just to get better weapons and fight harder monsters but that can still be fun. It is a gorgeous game nonetheless. Chat system is very nice too when you communicate with other players.

The game is the worst game I have ever seen launch. It has been out for several days and the bugs are numerous. It takes up to an hour to log on even with a extremly fast internet connection. The game crashes constantly, Lag is horrible, game play is terrible. After attempting to play the game for several days i have found that the probems are not being fixed but are getting worse.
Bugfest? ha, try it out now!

I know it was WAY to buggy the first 2 weeks or so, but funcom has been working 24/7 ever since the release, and it has paid off! I live in Norway, and as you might know, AO is a Norwegian game (Norway= that long, narrow country way north in europe ) hehe. Anywas, the newspapers here have a lot of AO news, so we get constant AO updates in the news. And they all say the same thing, things are really shaping up now! Well, my point is that most of the bad bugs have been fixed now, like the server crashing and game crashing. While you could count on only staying online 5-10 minutes to start with, I have no problems staying onlin 5+ hours playing up a storm now...! So go ahead and buy the game, it's a great game, and it gets better every day! Funcom has done an INCREDIBLE job with this one!

Okay so you want to play AO? Save your money and wait for Asherons Call 2. The game is plagued with bugs even after over a year of non-beta play time. The leveling is only fun for the first 40-50% of your characters life and the it gets dull and monotonous with absolutely no storyline whatsoever. THEN you spend hours earning the xp you need to level and just before you level you die to one of the thousands of bugs and you lose EVERY bit of xp you had earned. You will get absolutely no help on anything from the in-game advisors. The other really sad part is that AO is NOT a large continuous world like real mmropg's are. Its divided into zones that you have to load when u enter each area of the world and alot of them you wont be able to get into because of these stupid invisible walls that make no sense whatsoever. Exploring the world on Asherons Call was super kewl because there were dungeons and areas with unique monsters everywhere, AO has made exploration stupid and pointless as you have to have a mission to access a particular dungeon. The playerbase is constantly shrinking as more and more people get tired of FunCom...and even getting a team now takes alot of time (and u have to have a team after level 50 because you cant solo anything worth killing anymore). I bought the strategy guide FunCom put out for the game and it was utterly useless and uninformative. Every time they do a patch to 'upgrade' or 'fix' things it always, without exception, creates even more problems and more player frustration. Buy a game thats gonna give you enjoyment do not waste your time and money on something that will simply make you want to turn your computer off.
A rough start but getting better.

The first week or so of Anarchy Online was pretty rough. Servers going down, patches and lag. All the standard stuff we've come to expect when a game of this nature launches. Funcom has made amazing progress in a week. As I type this, my wife is playing the game, as she has been all day. A few disconnects but otherwise it's fully playable. And what a fun game to play it is! I quit playing Everquest over a month ago, I got bored with the constant camping, begging for groups and corpse runs. AO has eliminated these annoyances with a very unique mission system. The graphics are amazing, much better than the screens for the upcoming Shadows of Luclin. The fighting system is lots of fun and best of all NO CAMPING! I think this game will hold my interest for quite a while. (The downside is my wife may never let me play again, she's already told me to cancel her EQ account!)

The game has some fun elements. However, the shipping version of the game does not yet have all the features touted on the box implemented yet. Many have considered this paying to play a Beta.
Since you have to pay a monthly fee to play, you need to believe the company will keep its commitments in order to shell out cash every month. So far, the company has done little to give customers that faith.
Perhaps in 2002 check back and see if the game has improved... unless you find something else you like better by then, such as Neocron.
GREAT GAME!

OK, not all the bugs are worked out, but this is a great game.
The graphics are gorgeous, the world is huge, character development can be tailored to your wishes, etc... It has all the good features of Everquest and more.
The only bad part about this game is that the user interface takes a long time to figure out. I was getting very frustrated with the game by the end of my first hour, but then started to really figure out how things are supposed to be done. It was well worth the effort!!!
