Great game, just a bit buggy

As of 7/10/01 most of the major crash/lag bugs have been fixed, you can play for hours with not too much incident. You will still occasionally lag out, crash, and not be able to zone. But it is playable and a ton of fun.

The game itself is an evolution of the MMORPG. There is little downtime, every class is powerful, no one is a useless xp sucking gimp, the world is beautiful, huge variety of items, well balanced, etc etc. Very well done in that sense and stands taller than EverQuest et al here.

Awesome, cool game with a lot of great concepts. Just a few bugs left to work out, but a tremendous amount of them have been fixed. Really not too different from any other online game out there... EQ/UO had a ton of problems when they were released too.

Anarchy Online breaks new ground in customer satisfaction. And how can that be possible you ask? Simple, listen to what the real experianced players of massive multi online role playing games (MMORPG's) really what from an adventure. I have personally been involved in role playing games and more recently, online role playing games, for more than twenty years. And the one thing that any good RPG's offers each participant is a short and wonderious escape from the harsh realities of every day life. Funcom, the maker of Anarchy Online, has successfully provided each player with just that! This game has stunning 3-D sound, music, and graphics! Real enviromental hazards such as rushing waterfalls, toxic waste sites, and creature dangers of the wild outbacks. Most of the creatures, weapons, and ideas on magic function, are based on an advanced NANO TECHNOLOGY that the humans have evolved to using. I was fortunate enough to BETA test this game and will not ruin the surprise that this it has in store with all of its 3D lighting, shadowing, weather conditions, dramatic music, social interactions, and quest that tailored made for your specific character. I have played EQ AC and UO...This is the best so far!

Will be a good game someday...

The premise of this mmorpg is a sci-fi power struggle between two groups: Omni-Tek, a super corporation, and the Clans, a large band of freedom fighters. You choose sides or you can stay neutral. Along the way, you eliminate monsters...lots of monster to gain xp to earn levels so you can earn even more levels. The graphics are wonderful and the sound effects are great. The gameplay is terrible ...right now. I hope they will fix all the problems they have soon. My problem with this game is: they should have done this BEFORE they released it to the public. Someday this will be a great game. Until it is, save your money and don't reward Funcom for rushing a product that is far from playable.

(Edit: The below review that I made a while ago is a testament to the power of self delusion. I really wanted this game to be all those things, but after a while you realize that even when it is working, the gameplay sucks. Very few promised features were put in.

FunCom customer service sucks. Everything about the game sucks. Do not buy it. You may enjoy it for a week or three, but you will realize sooner or later, that it just sucks in SO MANY WAYS. I originally gave it five stars based on it's potential. But FunCom has proved, patch after patch, that potential will never be realized. Not anytime soon anyway, and there are lots of interesting titles in the pipe. One star! Don't buy it, and I really hope no one bought it based on my previous review. I'd feel a bit guilty if I led someone to waste their money as I did.)

My previous review:

Ok, I gave it 5 stars, based on me looking beyond the technical problems. The game play, the graphics, the story - everything about this game is so awesome. (the actual story line will not be implemented in game untill about 6 months after release)

As of right now - the game is well on the way to becomeing stable. The disconnects are pretty rare, once a day at this point. I've not had an actual crashes since beta (I was in Beta 4).

So you can stay in the game, but the biggest issue now is the lag. At busy times lag can be bad. Another biggie is zoneing problems. Other then these two big items there are numerous small bugs.

But despite these problems, I have a lot of fun playing AO. When you are out in the wilderness (away from the city lag-fests) you can see how great the game is. Absolutely stunning graphics, great music, and immersive mood-setting sound affects.

Now, it's still got major problems, I think it takes a real fan to put up with them for now. So be warned, if you don't want to deal with the problems then wait, but if your a die hard fan, I think you'll have fun while waiting for them to iron out the kinks.

Make no mistake - if and when this game is fully working it will be fully desearving of 6 stars.

I'm giving Anarcy Online 3 stars... and this review has nothing to do with the disconnects, long patch downloads (which happen less frequently now than they did). At the time I'm playing it, it seems to be working as well as it should (when it first launched... don't get me started on those problems).

I do have a problem with extremely high lag in the cities... and I'm running more than recommended system requirements and a faster than recommended connection.

I do dislike the game itself. The mission system (while indeed eliminating the camping situation) is extremely boring and repetative. The friends/team members/chat system is harder to use than more text based games. The game doesn't feel as vibrant and lively as some of the other games and also the sci-fi elements for me at least take away from some of the excitement. I don't feel like I'm working towards anything.

The game also feels very limited and many of the "professions" in the game are very close to the classes in other online games. I would have preferred something a little more origional.

Not to take away from the games wilderness environments, which are graphically stunning.

Overall... to me, it feels like Everquest if it came out 2 or 3 years later than it did. Hopefully they can port the beautiful graphics into something that is a little more fun to play.

This Game is a very good multiplayer online game. It gives you a lot of fun, and as soon as the storyline starts, you can be a part of the story, and also help deciding what it will be like in the future.
You can choose what side you want to play in this planetary conflict, or you can choose to stay neutral.

I find the game a lot of fun, it has some problems, but the produsers have done a good job since release, and most of the issues are now fixed.

This game is awsome the charecter creation is very good and there are 100's of weapons great game. There are bugs but they have many patches.

Even though this game has some bugs and can be hard to install, it is the best MMORPG's that I have played. This game has more potential than any other one I have played. I bet that many other games in the future will take notes from the mechanics of this game.

The only draw back is that the game was released too early. There are still a few bugs in it, but I can look past these bugs.

If you have played games where people "camp" for items and/or a creature, and this annoyed you, then you will like this game. There is nothing to camp like that. So everyone has an equal chance to get anything.

Funcom also takes action against Exploiters unlike Turbine....

Stellar Graphics, Intrecite design and, Unlimited single playability make this game very enjoyable.
