This game is a basic shell of a game, which means right now, it works but very basically. There is no content. Pass this one by.

I have played Ultima Online, Everquest, And Asheron's Call for about a year each. I bought AO (Anarchy Online) when it first came out and played it for a month. Out of the 4 MMORPG's I have played, AO is by far the worst. If you like to kill stagnant spawns for hours and hours to get levels so you can kill higher level stagnant spawns, this is the game for you. There is very little in this game other than leveling. There are no static dungeons, quests, or unique/rare items. Funcom has promised to add these but until then, don't waste your money. Wait for another game, or try AC EQ, or DAoC.
Anarchy Online, potential unfullfilled

Anarchy Online had a great premise; a sci-fi, futuristic setting on a distant planet where 2 to 3 factions warred over the fate of the world. Graphics are stunning and the music is nice. But it becomes anarchy from there.
Gameplay is repetitive, there are no 'wow' factors. The entire game is a kill, level, gear up race, made worse by the fact that you must get an entirely new set of armor every 5 levels just to stay competitive.
The game is broken in many many ways. Exploits are rampant and at times it is impossible to play the game 'legit'. Customer service is nonexistent. Each new patch that fixes an exploit or crash bug creates, I kid you not, at least 2 or more of said exploits or crashes.
Be warned, that at anytime, the servers can crash causing you to lose valuable credits, xp, items, and even SKILL POINTS you obtained since the last time you saved or zoned. Since the game is barely beta quality, heavy changes are being instituted by Funcom to balance classes, however being done at such a late date, is only angering the customer base when their characters are nerfed.
In short, buy this game at your own risk, I would recommend holding out a couple weeks for Dark Ages of Camelot, it looks to be a lot stabler than AO, but hehe, I thought AO was 'bread from heaven' when it first came out too.
AO is beautiful but provides poor replayability.

I registered on day one of Anarchy Online's launch. There were the expected launch problems, but my time in game showed me a graphically diverse world. I was willing to overlook the launch bugs....I work with software development and understand what the guys at Funcom were going through.
Now, months later, many of the bugs are still in game and there is little or no game continuity or balance. Gameplay is enjoyable but boringly repetitive. I was able to read chapters of a novel while playing if that gives you any indication as to the lack of immersiveness in the game. Poor AI, random rule changes in patches, technical bugs, repetitive gameplay, template dungeons, grossly misrepresented hardware specs, lack of variety in missions....it all begins adding up to a negative experience in the extreme.
I would strongly suggest against any person purchasing this game in it's current state. When it hits the bargain bin it will be worth [it] to play for the free month, but I strongly urge anyone purchasing the game to ONLY sign up on a monthly basis. I paid for 3 months and sorely regret it due to the fact I cancelled after 8 weeks.
Anarchy Online is not worth it! (Worth 0 stars)

Do not buy this game. It truely is a waste of money. I signed up for 6 months on the hope that it was a good game but the hype was never matched by actual gameplay.
After 3 months of retail release the game is still Beta quality with continual changes that effect major parts of the game. Unfortunantely these changes are not for the better and create more bugs than they intended to fix. They continually change character abilities so that things you planned on and spent time on become useless.
There is no "On-going story line" as you have been told there is or will be. It is already a month late and does not seem like it will happen any time soon. With the buggy state of the code any event would should be a crash fest and more frustrating than fun.
My final comment as to the quality of the game is this. There are no multi-level dungeons (missions) in this game! Every thing is on the same level. No stairs to another level or anything. This is not state of the art - if anything it is worse than the old days of dungeon-mazes because at least those had more than one level.
In summary... Poor game play. Poor design. Poor planning and execution. Boring, imbalanced and a complete disappointment. ...
This game is not worth the time and money.

I bought this game with much hope, however, after 3 months, Funcom the games developers, has done more to create bugs then to solve them. Censorship is rampant on the official message boards to prevent any bad press. Customer service is non-existant, and consists of email and in game petitions only. There is zero phone support. On average in game support takes well over 8 real hours, and email response takes nearly a week. Save your money, buy another game or try many of the good free online games that are out there.
Easily the worst online role playing game of them all....

The game is virtually unplayable. It is littered by constant crashes, huge lag, and many many many bugs. Even if I could play, it is very BORING. Most of the time online I tried to group with others but due to the huge lag and disconnects I was unable to do so. That leaves you with extremely boring cookie cutter missions that would be perfect for someone suffering from insomnia. Overall, a very dissapointing gameplay experience.
Please don't waste your money

As said before, this game shows so much promise... playing it from Beta, I really wanted to enjoy it. But the bugs, incomplete coding, horrid bug fixes that start new bugs, no storyline as of yet, little to no technical support, and lack of depth make Anarchy Online a game you do not want to buy. Trust me, save your money for Dark Age of Camelot or Star Wars Galaxies... don't spend your money on Anarchy Online.
Extremely boring and buggy

I was pretty excited about this game when I bought it and the first few weeks were fun but it quickly becomes repetative. The crashes and other problems are also very annoying.

Anarchy Online will dazzle you with some of the best graphics ever seen in MMORPG's (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games). The problem is, you can expect so see a slideshow rather than animation even with a 1GHz CPU, 512 megs of Ram, Geforce II Ultra video card, and 7200-RPM IMB deskstar hard drive.
Game balance, which is of ultimate importance in this particular genre, is nonexistent. Patches to correct this problem wildly overcompensate time and again.
Customer support is a figment over the player's imagination. No telephone support is offered. The player's options when faced with a game-breaking problem are to use the in-game petition tool /petition to call a FunCom support staff member to you (although I waited for over 2 hours before deciding to use option #2), or #2 /terminate and commit virtual suicide.
Billing is disorganized and confusing, and I would have preferred to be billed on the same day each month. I sincerely hope they will stop charging my credit card after I got the cancellation process to function properly. Some former players report that they are still being charged.
Bottom line: save your money for a finished product.
