The only review you should read....

If you've been researching this game and reading the published web site reviews you've surely noticed the trend to mention the great potential this game has. Then the reviewers give the game a low score because of current bugs, etc. EverQuest is probably the single most successful game currently available. However, go back and read the reviews that popped up when it was first released. EQ was also plagued by bugs and connection issues and thus received a low score. Folks, when it comes to these monumental online games, it's impossible for an open Beta test to truly cover all the bases.

Let me be the first person to review on potential and not bugs and other issues that will surely go away in the near future. Anarchy Online is gorgeous! If you have the horsepower to crank up all the detail settings you are in for a real treat. The other night I stood atop a distant mountain range and watched thunderheads roll across the valley below, peppered with the flashes of lightning bolts. Yesterday I was treking across a desert with friends when a sandstorm swept its way across the dunes. The red clouds of dust and sand filled my screen with horizontal patterns while I endeavored to watch my compass and stay on course.

In many ways AO is simply EQ with a sci-fi twist. Anyone who's played EQ will find many gameplay and interface similarities. The gameplay makes use of "nano-technology". To make it simple for those coming from EQ, nanos=magic, nano-programs=spells, nono-technicians=wizards, etc.

Yes there are some bugs and connectivity problems. They've drastically improved recently and will only get better in the near future. As you read those other published reviews keep in mind what I've said here. If you're still unsure in regard to the bugs, etc...wait another month and dive in!

and the line you were waiting for....Anarchy Online completely blows EverQuest to kingdom come. Try it, you'll like it.

This is the game of the future!!!!!!

People have the wrong impression of this game. I reluctantly tried the 7 day free try offer on the official Anarchy site, after being told that the game wasn't really that bad. And guess what, this game is so superior to all other MMORPGs out there you wouldn't believe it. My DAoC account is gone.
If Funcom can manage to keep up the quality on the patching they will have a million subscribers in no time.

Great Potential, Bad Execution

It's really a game that *could* have been fun if it delivered everything you'd expect, but dependance on missions, lack of areas to hunt with friends or groups outside of towns with little to no knowledge beforehand, and a myriad of errors and screen lag soon suck the fun out of it after 20 lvls.

Its pretty good, but it could be better

I have been playing this game for 2 days, I have a level 5 omni-tek soldier, and its pretty cool. Usually you kill things for XP and do missions for money. The whole game is about character developement, and its really fun. However, this game has some major flaws for instance the lag. The lag in the game is lag I have never seen before. I am talking about 4000 ping just when there is a group of people huddled together, its horrible. Usually you dont see that many people in the game and in fact, the game is so HUGE you dont see that many people. And when you do see a person in the game all they do is run by you like you are not even there. People in this game to not care that other people are in the game they just go on doing what they want to do and never care about talking or doing anything with others. But if you are bored with the MMORPGs we have out now, and have a very good modem or dont care about doing stuff with people either, get this game. Or else wait a couple months for the lag to get better.

stunning visuals, cars that fly, like - it can be crowded in towns, fortresses, usually the player cities are empty - everybody too busy shooting each other to party i guess

the games is not for underage, but definitly needs work in the social areas, and i was dissapointed with the difficulty of access to craft - but mebbe its me - that said, i'm not giving up on it just because it can turn into a slogging match

i only didnt give it five stars cause it does need sooooo much work.

if you can take the heat, bring your good graphic card, at least 1/2 gig of ram, and join the midnite party! (note - some may not enjoy the tunes - can be a bit raw)

Buy Something else!!!

This game should still be in beta. Current version 12.6 is a joke, broke things that used to work, made existing bugs worse, and the fixes are worse than the bugs. It is unplayable, with invulnerable mobs, crashing while zoning (often followed by multiple hours of being unable to log on), and oh yes, total lack of meaningful apology by the company for bringing the game to its knees ON A FRIDAY AFTERNOON. Save your money.

Where should I even start with this?

I had high hopes for the game when I bought it. I had such high expectations, that I bought one account for myself, and one for a friend. Boy, was I disappointed.

The system requirements listed on the box are less than accurate. If you have less than 512Mb of RAM, a high P3, and a 64Mb GeForce 2, donýt even think about this game. You will not be able to play.

If that wasnýt enough, FunComýs support is the worst I have ever seen. You can wait for over 6 hours for a Game Master to respond to your request for help. Email to the company takes even longer to get a response from that is if they respond to your email.

Sure, the game has some nice graphics, and has a lot of possibilities, but unless you have a super computer and a T1 connection the game is very difficult to enjoy.

Another thing. Donýt be upset if you find FunCom patching on a Friday at peek playing times with a bad patch. They have done it before, and the bad patch will stay on the live servers till at least Monday evening.

All in all. I give the game one star. If you are considering getting this game, at least read the Anarchy Online message boards at ... first. Ask people about the game and then build your decision.

It truly is anarchy.

had good potential but ruined by fun?com

very nice graphics and good audio but gameplay broken.

They failed to catch massive exploiding at start,
and after about 3 month when these guys where allready Lvl 150+
they changed gameplay to ultra-hard to stop the playerbase from leveling too fast...

different approach to handle exploing at least :), just not nice for a new starter.

I would give a "0 star" if i could

I played in the beta, but still gave them a chance in the public release.

What you will encounter...

1. Lack of support
a. In Game: petitions generally go unanswered, unless you beg the various chat channels to help you by petitioning as well. If you do get you petitioned answered the response time ranges from 1 day to 2 weeks.
b. Emails to support: They will generally answer your email (if you are fortunate..they ignore these as well) with a form response which my experience will not be related to your issue

2. Lack of direction
When a game is released, it is normal for certain "Classes" to be adjusted to make game play more fair. Usually this changes are fairly minor. In 4 patches, they have had 4 class ending changes. Major balancing should have been done in beta, not public release.

3. Bugs
With every patch they may fix 4 or 5 bugs, but introduce 10-15 more.

4. Censorship
When they release from beta they "accidentally" deleted their message board. A few days before the European release they decided to censor it entirely. For every one positive post about the game there were atleast 50-200 negative posts, but of course they didn't want their new market to see them.

On the positive side, the graphics are nice eye candy...but with the issues above..I as well as many many others would not renew their subscription or recommend this to a friend.

Some of funcom's fansites have actually shut down do to these issues.

Dont do it yet

I, as one of the players on AO since Beta4 (there are many), would say to customers DO NOT BUY THIS GAME yet. It isn't very playable, and there is not alot of content yet to boot. Wait for a couple months and if FunCom is still around and AO has dropped in proce by at least 15 bucks, then pick it up and hope you can play it. Good luck. I just cancelled my account to AO the other day along with countless others.
