I've seen much, if not most, of the information about Doom III. And while I've been gaming on PCs for the better part of 15 years, I can say without a doubt that this title is the single most anticipated product of my gaming life (with the possible exceptions of Half Life and Halo). The emphasis on tension, atmosphere, pacing and the immersive illusion of reality leave me expecting a lot. But based on the reputation and track-record of ID Software it is unlikely that those expecations are misplaced. Factor in the influence of Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails and this 'game' will almost certainly be deep, dark, sinister and flat out scary. Let me buy it now, please! ;)
Just finished playing it!

This by far was the funnest game yet. Many hours of play.
The one annoying thing was having to get a decent graphics card to be able to run the game. Luckily I got a new machine at work that had one.
Another thing to be warned about is if you are prone to hyper focusing. You can get a little sick from all the motion. I got quesy a few times. Someone told me they saw an interview with the Rock and he said he thought he had food poisoning after he played it for awhile. Take breaks!
The story line is great and the graphics are great! One thing I thought was interesting was the fact the chainsaw was "beefed" up and became a rather usefull weapon at times. I didn't use it much on the older games.
Another good aspect was that it did get creepy at times. One thing that "bugged" me was a voice that kept asking you to follow her. You went down a hallway and came to a dead in and the voice said "They took my baby!"
The maps are rather large. I don't think I covered all of it. Then again I may have I don't know.
One thing that was interesting at first was the use and finding of PDAs. It was different but then it came the point of the game as you needed acess to areas. Some people probably won't like that but it didn't bother me too much.
You also get a flashlight again. You have to learn to set weapons and switch before a fight. It's not to hard as the creatures usually have a noise to announce they are about to appear.
Speaking of the creatures. Good! Not disappointed in the demons but the zombies? Well They probably could have added more shapes. How many fat guys are there on mars?
The Bosses were good and actually challenging.
Overall a fun time and I will run though it again.

Now i understand Why Half-life 2 lost battle with doom3. Because in doom3 ID actually MADE something up. That is why doom3 is more popular than half-life 2. What did they made in hal-life 2? Sound of an magnum which was used in 876 movies? they actually made some weapons?(in half-life2) Like spas12,magnum,9mm pistol, sub-machinegun? obly thing they made was gravity cannon. In here ID made ALL weapons new. Just by themselves, not using any ideas from outside. Where did you seen that pistol from doom3? huh? thats what i thought. =D Stop complaining about HALF-LIFE II AND DOOM III! DOOM 3 ALREADY WON! SO STOP TALKING AFTER YOU DIED! If you see that message BUY THIS GAME RIGHT NOW. There is no better graphics in computer games for right now than doom 3. BEST GAME EVER.

When I first got this game I was blown away. First of all the graphics are wonderful if you have the hardware to match. When I started out I was obsessed for a few days. I found myself going to the bathroom every fifteen minutes. The walls were covered in blood and the game was very well lit. IT WAS DOWN RIGHT CHILLING! To bad it was only fun for the first 2 or 3 levels before each level was exactly the same and I got tired of the same objective each level "find this, find that". So I started using cheats. Also the A.I. is very basic, but how ID Software used it was brilliant. It was defiantly a very enjoyable game none the less, I believe that you should have a copy of Doom 3 just for your collection. Basically if you need a game just because you have nothing to do, than this fills the pocket. I also recommend Half-Life 2 Game of the year edition (which comes with Counter-Strike: Source, and Half-Life 2: Source), Far Cry, Halo and Star Wars Republic Commando. Oh yeah I forgot to mention the multiplayer is terrible, ID should have know this would damage the game.

Scariest ... Game ... Ever

With upcoming Half Life 2 aside, Doom3 is a masterpiece of PC gaming. The game play is intutive, the design and immersion of the enviroments stunning, and its cinematic feel and timing dead on. Id has reworked the Doom concept with intelligence, and wisely brought the concept of a demonic invasion of Mars from the (now) boring shoot everything that moves first person shooter, to a innovative first-person survival horror. The game remains true to its name, giving Ids' fans of both the Doom and Quake series everything they could want, but it adds countless little touches that all add up to this being the scariest experience you can currently have in a video game. The game is disturbing, amazing to explore and ruthlessly heart pounding - making it a fantastic experience. I considered myself fairly fearless and I've played enough of these types of games to not be phased by the scare tactics they use, but Doom 3 had me tense nearly the whole time. I even screamed outloud more times then I care to admit. Its alot of fun, has a good story, and is the best scare you can get in a game.

I've owned Doom 3 for a little over 24 hours now and have been impelled to write a review.
Doom 3 is an overall scare your pants off horror movie with a twist; you're the main star. I found myself walking throughout the house turning on lights and hearing noises and creeks that I had never heard before because of this game. The games atmosphere and graphics draw you in and spit you back out before you can run for your life. I wish there was a "Panic" button that let you drop your weapon and just run, that's how scary this game really is.
While in game you experience a sense of paranoia, your heart races and your blood pumps when you flash your light down a dimly lit hall and are confronted by bloodthirsty zombies. Imps and Arachnids jump from the ceilings and vents scrambling toward you and your puny pistol for a mid-afternoon snack. The real time lightning allows you to walk up to a corner and see a monster around the other side before they see you.
What has caused me the worst fear is the graphics that make it look so real that you have to play with the lights off. When the hound, related to the Demon from previous Doom installments, flies toward you and hits you your screen shakes and blood splatters from your almost lifeless body. Your vision blurs on screen and just when you recover and try to blow a few rounds into a monster, your jolted back again.
Doom 3 has the sense of power when you unload a round into a zombies face and the blood sprays out against the wall and he jolts backwards. As the smoke clears you watch as a zombie with a newly acquired hole in his head creeps towards you for more.
To end this review I give it overall 5 stars because of the scare factor. Nothing can compare to this, not even a major motion picture. The predictability of the monsters to jump out of corners is overshadowed by the fact that you are surprised every time.
My only tip for any of you gamers is that you turn off all the lights in your house, sit down at your computer, and play by ear, because you'll never be able to see anything with only your pistol in hand.
Doom 3 misses one element that would make it the otherwise perfect sequil...

Doom 3 contains many features to be proud of: state of the art 3d graphics that push most graphics cards and PC's to their limit, an excellent soundtrack scored by the likes of Tweaker and ID's own in-house sound engineers. It also has an interesting and surprisingly fast paced multi-player deathmatch mode (which has had more added to it since the expansion.) The storyline of the game contains some interesting sci-fi details (especaly the ones concerning the "science" behind the many weapons and objects in the game.) And it is Doom. But there are also some rather dissapointing aspects about the much heralded and hyped successor to the original game that set the FPS world on fire. The storyline surrounding all of the sci-fi/horror in the game is shallow in places and has left many feeling unimpressed. The game also features a dredging flashlight in the dark aspect that makes many feel like that they are being forced to play out an otherwise uneccisary aspect that the game should not have. There is also the most serious problem that was forseeable with the intense graphics engine: There are no fewer than perhaps 5 demons on the screen at a time. As you can see, Doom 3 lacks the one certain aspect that made Doom... Doom: It's unmistakable slaughterfest action. Instead of having numbers going into the 20's, you instead have small clusters of monsters going at you. As said before, this is understandable due to the fact that making the game into a massive kill fest would hinder the graphics card. Instead of making it a slaughter fest though, ID has instead gone the horror route. Which is thus why the flashlight is in the game. The whole point of the flashlight is to add to the horror element and increase the surprise feature. And it does work (for the most part). There are some frights that come off as badly timed and also a little cliche (I.E. random evil laughter), which ruins the fun at some times. One last problem that Doom 3 has is that the demon battles can at times feel a little repetetive. While the creatures do have better AI than before, they sadly all seem to behave the same in their own little ways. The most common trend is that they all jump around and close in on you while shooting you with projectiles and dodge your attacks, but when they get in close, they switch to their claws and proceed to smack you around. I suppose this could be attributed to the fact that there are only so many ways a demon can behave, but ID could have been a little more imaginative with the enemy AI than this.
Despite it's shortcommings, Doom 3 is still a worthwhile prospect. It may not have the constant blood spilling that Doom 1 and 2 had, but it offers a graphical treat and an expanded (although still in need of work) storyline that Dooms 1 and 2 did not have. It also features some of the coolest versions of the best FPS weapons ever (the plasma gun and BFG 9000 are incredible), and let us not forget the demons and their improved look. Hopefully now that the graphics engine has been created, a future Doom 4 will have the slaughter fest that this game was missing (if everyone's computer/gaming console is up to par by then!)

Wellllllll, let's get down to it.
1. Graphics: I'm running a P4 3.2 with BFG Ultra 6800, the graphics were great. Sound was good, and I like the interaction ability. Meaning you can talk to some NPCs. Graphics Graphics Graphics, we've heard nothing but how great the graphics are and..... they are great. No problems with game slowing down or glitchy screens that I've heard so much about. I would note that I upgraded specifically to play this game, maybe this is a good time for you to upgrade as well.
2. Enviornment: Great begining, I enjoyed the initial interaction, breifings, and introduction to the facility as it was before all hell (litterally) broke loose. Darkness didn't seem to be the problem everybody has spoken about, I'm not done with the game, perhaps it gets worse later. Can't shoot windows or force open ventillation shafts like many FPS. This means wandering around endlessly looking for "Security Passes" that you down load to your "PDA" (more on that later). You have some sort of space uzi, and it can't break an everyday window? Also you visit various security stations, and they don't have a way to bypass the door? There should have been ways to go outside so that you could bypass damaged areas (allowing you to see the Martian landscape more).
3. PDA: What? I'm in the military, and in real life they saddle me with a Palm Pilot, the last thing I want in my video game is to learn that hundreds of years from now We will still be chained to one of these pocket slave drivers. The PDA isn't a bad thing, seems like maybe besides the various e-mails, that a freaking MAP OF THE FACILITY might have been a decent thing to be able to download. Maybe a scanner to quickly check the dark rooms for bad guys before you enter would have been helpful. Oh, maybe the PDA could be used to "Hack" the doors. I didn't find the PDA as distasteful as many here have, but if we have it, it should have been more useful.
4: Flashlight: like many here I concur, night vision would have been better.
5. Flavor: I thought the game was scary, the first time a demon does the "Alien" crawl out of some pipes, I squealed like a little girl. The "possesed" marines were very cool. Almost "Death Match" like opponents. They could act in teams, lay down supressing fire so others could advance. Very cool.
6. Overall; Wow. I can't wait untill we start getting Garage Levels from the general public. I think that ID would do well to continue to work on the Doom series. If they have a heart, they might buy out the Mech Warrior series and save that game as well.
Almost too Scary!!!

I am not a hard-core gamer- and this is my 1st shooter game I've played since Half-Life- so installing and running Doom 3 was an eye-popping experience for me! If you are not used to shooters like this you will be scared! It has taken me more than a few hours to get used to things popping out from every blind corner- and I still don't play the game with the lights off! For a while i couldn't play for more than 30 mins or so at a time- it got too intense!!! My girlfriend laughed at me- until I had her play for a few mins...then she screamed as an imp jumped out at here and wouldn't play anymore!
Graphics are amazing on my computer- even though I only have a 256g basic graphics card, 776megs of Ram, and a 2.8g processor. I couldn't imagine what this looks like on a new high-end system!
Just some Helpful hints

overall this game is great, but it can get annoying switching back and forth between your guns and your flashlight, dude, its the 22nd cetnury and they still carry a flashlight? come on id you know better than this, overall i gave this game a 4 star rating because the flashlight problem and its not as scary as people say, still pretty creepy tho, play in the dark, its cool.
