I bought this game because all the reviews said how great it was. Unfortunately it stinks. Why?, well it keeps crashing. It's not like I don't have enough requirements for it to run either. (2 gigs ram, athlon 64 bit chip, 256MB video card.) - I went on the internet and it turns out I'm not alone. All kinds of people have this problem. If you're going to buy this I suggest borrowing a copy from a friend and seeing if it installs and runs through a whole level without crashing. If it passes that test, then buy it. Otherwise steer clear of this piece of junk.

Expectations were so high for this game it almost couldn't help but fail to meet them. I still hope that the shortly to be released Half Life 2 escapes that fate.
Doom 3 offers a unique FPS experience. While its game mechanics are a throw back to the original Doom (appropriately) it is obviously less complex or nuanced than every game since. However, please note, what Doom 3 loses in gameplay it makes up for in atmosphere, vision and sheer scariness.
Playing Doom 3 is more akin to being "in" a sci-fi horror movie than anything I've ever played. If you enjoyed the dark, eerie experience of watching Ripley Scott's original Alien movie, I think you'll be entranced by Doom 3. I suggest turning off the lights and cranking up the audio. I dare you not to jump as the monsters peel away from the wall to attack you or feel the hairs rise on your neck when ghostly voices call out to you to "Follow me" in the bowels of a Martian base.
I think HL2 will surpass Doom 3 in terms of gameplay and vision, but Doom 3 deserves a serious look from horror fans. It's like looking yourself up with HP Lovecraft and listening for the "things that cannot be mentioned" to come for you out of the dark.
Graphics: 9/10 (serious system requirements)
Audio: 9/10 (weapons unimaginative but the atmosphere is fantastic)
Gameplay: 7/10 (shot, find keycard, shoot)
Genuine Fear Factor: 10/10
Not just a game, it's a masterpiece

Yes, you need serious hardware to turn-on all the graphics goodies but when you do, good god, this program takes you to another world. I have been a PC gamer since the beginning and I have never seen anything this good. It is an awesome achievement. Hats off and bow before the gods of ID! Fifty bucks is not enough for this gem.

Will Doom ]|[ have a story? Yep
Will you be shooting scary meanies that jump out of nowhere? Yep
Is it be a rehash of previous Id releases? Slightly different flavor, but yes.
Will the main focus of Doom 3 be to showcase the latest Id Software 3D Graphics engine? Big honkin' Yepper on this one.

I've played the Doom III alpha, and I've watched the video for Half-Life 2. I have to say that I'm very impressed with both games. For those people that want to argue about which will be better, I say that it depends on what catagory you're talking about. As far as graphics are concerned, dark, indoor environments will definitely be easier and better in Doom III. For outdoor environments though, (and especially ones with bright colors, whether indoors or not), will definetly be better done in Half-Life 2.
As for the gameplay, I think that Doom III is going to be more of a base demo (though this will be much better than the purely bot match game called Quake III). If ID does this right, I expect to see some very good looking games from other developers based on this engine. I would personally like to see a Star Wars game done in this engine.
Overall, if I had the money, I would buy both of these games. However, that would also mean shelling out money for a much better vid. card, but then again....

This is quite possibly the worst computer game I ever spent 50 bucks on. Yes the graphics are cool, but endless running around before any combat, walking through dark corridors with a lame flash light missing every flight of stairs possible, and having to look at this stupid PDA all the time is not my idea of a good time. I have been playing this game for hours and have not yet seen the first monster. Yes, I know that finding your way around is part of any good game, but for a franchise who has built itself around combat as a main theme, running through doors for hours on end doesnt quite stimulate the imagination. Do yourself a favor and buy the latest installment of resident evil for your PS 2, dont waste your time on this piece of garbage.

I can't believe how sad this game is. It's very dark. The graphics... BOOO!!! I am sure that most people that gave this 5 star rating have not played the game, or are really into the darkness and overall lameness of it? I've played it 3 days and it's like a kids map of running around trying to find card keys to access diffrent levels then you got to spend your time writting down codes for logs. What a bunch of B$!!! Dunno, I expected way better graphics... All I can say is WAIT for more reviews. Or check ebay since many are going to try to unload this. I am a big quake/doom/farcry/half life fan and this is a very big dissapointment to me since I really though/hoped this would be one of the better games. Saving up for better Far Cry and HL2.

Where is the line people? Where is the point where game companies need to be regarding putting out a super quality product in the first place vs. rushing it out to meet an ultimately pointless deadline? When people complain and say "you are way past the release date...now I'm not gonna buy it" is that driving them to further streamline and improve what those of us who plunk down our cash get to see and hear? Or do you think they will just green light it to production and distribution? The first Doom was an incredible experience for it's day, compared to Wolfenstein and Doom 2 didn't let anyone down, so let's give it a chance and appreciate a polished product for a change.
