Good but not great

We have two DDR games: DDR Extreme 2 and DDR Max 2. The first is a bigger hit with our 13, 11, and 8 year olds. They like the song selections better from the first. Both are basically the same otherwise. I love that they are exhausted when they are done playing!

This is a disgrace. Whoever calls THIS a game, has problems. It's really cool! Ya get to "dance", or hit freakin' squares on a mat, while the worst techno music is being played in the backround to pornagraphic images. It is a disgrace to the dance culture! I have been taking street funk, hip-hop, world dance, and breakdancing for seven years, and I know dance. Overall, an annoying, expensive, retarted game that could be used for some other purpose. Just look at that cheesy cover! Dear GOD! Well, I'm rambling... just don't buy it!!!!!!!!!!

Don't buy this game if you don't own any other DDRs. It's not freestyler friendly. They just dumped all the other songs. No more Boom Boom, butterfly, or Dam Dariram. Max started the Perfect Attacker era and the Newschool Freestyle Era. Farewell freestyling.

This game was terrible. The music was too fast, the animations were clunky. I would not recommend this game.

Not So Hot...

DDR Max 2......

...gee..where do we start!

Not So Hot. That's what it is. Not as great as DDR Max, which was waaaaaay better. This version has some good songs.

...notice that I said "some"

The good songs are:

1) End of the Century: This is a remake of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, and it's awesome power of opera/something else
is very overwhelming. If I were to buy this game, this song would be the only reason I'd buy it. This song may also sound wierd at first, but you definetely grow onto it and you'll wanna play it over and over.

2) Can't Stop Fallin' in Love by Naoki: This song was a little scary, considering it was too slow. That's probably why they made the Speed Mix for DDR Extreme.
There are also some "suggestive references" throughout this game, so this game, like the others (DDR Extreme and DDR max) probably barely got the "E" rating by an inch.

3) Dream a Dream by Captain Jack: It just has a really good rythum and beat to it. It's a great song that doesn't need to be unlocked when you first do game mode.

4) Maxx Unlimited: I think this is a remix to DDR Max's Max 300. Playing this song, you have to be careful when the timing slows down then stops on the arrow, because when you least expect it, it will suddenly start back up to it's original bpm, which I think is 300.

5) Long Train Running by Pet Shop Boys: This song has the best style of a rock-kinda jazz. It sounds a little like Duran Duran, only smoother. This is the kind of song that would tempt you to let out your wild emotions and dance like a maniac. Don't ask me why, it just does.

6) Silent Hill: This is the best Christmas song I've probably ever heard. It has a inner warming, good kind of feeling, and it's very fun to play even if it isn't Christmas. In fact, it only reminds you of the joy of Christmas!

That's basically all the songs I can think of.

This game also has it's share of very annoying and extremely stupid songs. I'm For Real, again, is in this game! The Whistle Song is extremely annoying with its rapping. Conga Feeling is just not worth playing, a song that's so wierd, you can only play it once. Without You, just a plain, flat-out annoying boy band type of song, and many more.

My overall rating: 2 stars; only worth renting from the video store. (But if you want to unlock End of the Century, you have to play the game nonstop all night until you get it. Trust me, playing this annoying but awesome game is worth it if your goal is to unlock End of the Century.) Enjoy! ;-)

Fun, but a little dissapointing

We purchased this game after playing DDRMax for months, and getting a little bit tired of the same old songs. Unfortunately, a good portion of the songs on this game are remix's of the songs on DDRMax. Don't get me wrong, there are new songs, but I was dissapointed to see repeats. Also, the scoring on this game is strange. I have been so frustrated some nights, earning an A or a AA on a song that was currently a C or B, and not getting a new record. I also have seen some of my grades going down, from an A to a C. I don't play solely for the scoring, but that does get annoying!
The light mode is too easy if you have used any other DDR game prior. Some of the standard mode is more like light on the original DDRMax. But I should say something that I really like about DDRMax2 is the beginner mode. We originally bought our first game for our daughter who was 5, and it turned out it was too difficult for her to get the hang of. She is now doing great, because of the beginner mode. This mode takes the movie away from the background and shows a character standing on a pad and moving to the beat, and also moving their feet to the appropriate square as the song progresses. This really helped her understand how to do it!

Definitely the best music, but...

Our household is DDR addicted! When we rented DDR Max 2, we were very pleasantly surprised to hear real dance songs that we were familiar with. That part was truly excellent!

Unfortunately, we learned that unlocking songs meant getting "new" songs that are actually (down to the last step) old songs from Konamix. That was kind of lame. And we didn't feel there were as many immediate choices as there were on DDR Max (the first one).

Either way, at a price set less than $30, this is definitely worth adding to your collection.

A solid follow-up to DDRMax

Those who revelled in the fast, furious excitement of PS2's DDRMAX will nonetheless enjoy its sequel, but the sheer joy and fun of the original is slightly lost in the newer version.

Sure, there are more American songs to groove to (Days Go By, Take Me Away (Into the Night), Let's Groove, Love at First Sight, Busy Child, etc.), this new installment lacks some of the fun songs of the original.

DDRMAX 2 is noticeably a more challenging and daunting game when it comes to the heavier-skilled levels, like "So Deep", "Maxx Unlimited", among several others. Whereas DDRMAX was brisk, challenging and entertaining, DDRMAX 2 is faster, harder and somewhat of a step backward in terms of song selection.

In terms of workout capabilities, this game is pure aerobic sensation, bringing in a calorie burning workout into a fun and engaging style of exercise. Of course, one would need to aspire to Standard and most definitely to Heavy Mode in order to feel the full effect of the workout, but DDR at any level will test one's endurance level.

DDRMAX 2 is a worthy addition to anyone's PS2 collection, despite it's falling second to its predecessor. And with the proper skill, one can definitely appreciate the game's more challenging nature.

I love to dance! Fun game, gets you moving, and possibly annoy your downstairs neighbors (oops) :) The music is great, and the different level/game options are perfect. Fun with friends!

Ahhh... confusing..

I bought this game for my daughter last Christmas since she loves to dance. But I must say, I was dissapointed in the game because the directions were very broad. Now what I did not know was that you had to buy the mat which was not specified in ordering this product. Also, they price was a little high, and the music wasn't that great. My daughter enjoyed it, but I, as an adult, didn't think very much of it.
