I bought this for my 11 y/o grandson for Christmas, and it has been going nonstop ever since. It's not just the kids enjoying it either - the teenagers and adults have been playing it as well. Even if you're just watching, it's loads of fun (and the best exercise around!)
Very pleased

When I first tried it I thought there's no way I'll ever figure this out. After 1 week and a lot of help from my 13 yr. old I'm starting to get it. Most of the songs are still a little too fast for me, I wish I could slow them down. It's a lot of fun though. My son and I now compete.
Doh!

My last review was based on info from friends. Here's the real deal, now that I own it.
MAX2 has a disappointing song list. Some songs, such as Break Down!, Tsugaru, Kakumei (the mysterious red Japanese characters above MAXX Unlimited on the arcade version), and Twilight Zone are fun, but the US club hits are way too easy, except for So Deep and In the Navy '99. Unfortunatly, Konami spent a bit too much time getting US songs to Americanize the series.
MAX2 also features the return of the dancing background characters! I don't know if all of them are here, but Baby-lon keeps me happy. Plus, they're cel-shaded. For those who don't understand that, they look cartoonish, like Sly Cooper.
Nonstop mode presets were also quite disappointing, also centered on the US songs. I had to make my own, which included half the 9 foot songs in the game. Endless is fun, too.
I have cleared all the 9 footers on MAX2. I had much more trouble with the 9's on MAX. Never you mind, though. I've gotten better since I got MAX2. WAY better.
MAXX Unlimited on Heavy (hard) is insane. Have a medical squad on the sidelines before trying to climb that mountain. It's quite the feat to pass with the controller, yet I know people who can pass it on their feet.
DDR Extreme is out in Japan. The American release, I hope, will make before Summer 2004. Preferably Spring to Early Summer, 2004.
Good, but still not as good as the imports

This is an excellent DDR Mix. Probably the best mix available in the US to date.
The good points:
* New US-exclusive songs
* Nonstop mode (!)
* Endless mode
* Music videos
The bad points:
* New songs are too easy
* No ONI mode
* Still missing lots of Konami Originals from the Japanese versions
If not for the existence of the Japanese version of DDRMAX2 (and the soon-to-be-released DDRExtreme), this would probably get 5 start...the US games are almost as good as the imports, but not quite yet...
Overall, DDRMAX2 is an excellent DDR game and well worth a purchase.
DDR MAX2 = DDR MAX

I am a die hard ddr fan... no doubt about it, i'm planning on building metal pads, buying an xbox and more just for the sequel. This is just about the same as max, only reason i gave it a 4 was because the only real difference is the songs and how they brought back charecters. This game will be in for new grapics in the xbox version too so i didn't minus for that because this game also did upgrade with music videos while your playing the songs. I am often undetermined whether to take out ddr max or ddr max 2 because i have favorite songs on both of them that are only on there own version. I say that IF you own ddr max and are not a die hard ddr fan with an xbox then wait for ultramix but if your not getting an xbox anytime soon you should get this.....
Awesome!

I played this at my friends house and this game is so awesome! I like this game because it actually has a purpose; to unlock songs that are achieved through beating various songs. I also break a sweat after like 4-6 songs. My favorite song is breAk down!. that is the best song.
Some clearing up to do: Sim9 of San Antonio, Texas, I would like to clear up your song complaint, like butterfly and captain jack and stuff. All the arcade machines are Japanese and those songs are liscenced under Konami of Japan, therefore, it would be very very expensive to get it to Konami of America. I heard it was like 1,000 dollars per song! (I heard all of this from a hardcore ddr forum)(lol)
Anyways this game is awesome! Go buy it...or maybe you can wait for DDR Extreme, its like comin out in september.
OMG! THIS GAME IS SOOOOOOOO AWESOME!

I've had this game for 9 months, and I play it on and off. It's an extremly fun way to get exersize, and to learn how to have rythme while you dance. The music choices are fine, but not spectaular. If you are still plannig this after 6 months, I would upgrade to the $99 dance pad or better because it make a big differance.
A solid follow-up to DDRMax

Those who revelled in the fast, furious excitement of PS2's DDRMAX will nonetheless enjoy its sequel, but the sheer joy and fun of the original is slightly lost in the newer version.
Sure, there are more American songs to groove to (Days Go By, Take Me Away (Into the Night), Let's Groove, Love at First Sight, Busy Child, etc.), this new installment lacks some of the fun songs of the original.
DDRMAX 2 is noticeably a more challenging and daunting game when it comes to the heavier-skilled levels, like "So Deep", "Maxx Unlimited", among several others. Whereas DDRMAX was brisk, challenging and entertaining, DDRMAX 2 is faster, harder and somewhat of a step backward in terms of song selection.
In terms of workout capabilities, this game is pure aerobic sensation, bringing in a calorie burning workout into a fun and engaging style of exercise. Of course, one would need to aspire to Standard and most definitely to Heavy Mode in order to feel the full effect of the workout, but DDR at any level will test one's endurance level.
DDRMAX 2 is a worthy addition to anyone's PS2 collection, despite it's falling second to its predecessor. And with the proper skill, one can definitely appreciate the game's more challenging nature.

This game is the best one I ever played. One day I strolled to my friends house who was playing it and then and I started to play. I always wondered how the game would be like since I always saw people playing it at arcades. Soon I always went to her house and we would plug the two dance mats and play all night. It was a dancing sensation and now I am better then her, going toward Standard Mode is where I am but I will never be the best. I love its workout mode as well and the other different and exciting ones it has. This game I recommend to everyone. It will be a chance to join the family into a dancing extravigansa.
