This game is wonderful. It has all the features that I liked from DDRMax, plus some new ones (like a non-stop mode that schlubs like me can actually DO, unlike oni mode in DDRMax, of which I can only beat 2 courses). The playlist is great, including Dirty Vegas, Kylie and The Crystal Method, all favorites of mine. Plus some older songs like In the Navy, Get Down Tonight, and In the Hall of the Mountain King (never thought I'd DDR to that one :)). I'm looking forward to DDR-Next having some Juno Reactor on it (hear me Konami?!).

this game is off da chain!!!!!

DDRMax 2 is one of the Dance Dance Revolution series. This game, like the others, is based on pressing the up, down, left and right arrows following the speed, beats, and rythmns of the music that you've selected. It's got more than 65 songs, so there's hours and hours of play time. Pressing the arrows at the right time gives you a better score and fills up the meter which tells you how well you're doing. Missing the arrows bring down your meter gradually and you eventually fail the stage. Every song you play earns you a point towards a new item. After playing a number of songs, you get a new song, a new mode, or a new option. It's quite an interesting concept.

This game also contains various modes like game mode, workout mode, lesson mode, training mode, edit mode, and endless mode. Game mode is when you play a number of stages from 1 to 5 (you select the number of stages in a game mode) and get a grade for how well you've done. Workout mode counts the calories you burn as you're playing the songs. The stages are unlimited. Lesson mode is for beginners. It teaches you how the game works, how you play it, and teaches you when to press the arrows and how to position your body when facing mutiple arrows. Training mode sharpens your accuracy on steps to certain songs. Edit mode lets you take one of the many songs and create your own steps to the song. Endless mode is playing all the songs in one level such as beginner, light, standard, and heavy.

On the negative side, the fun doesn't last forever. It eventually gets less amusing and the 65+ songs seem to all get old. And for the true arcade experience, you're going to need the dance pad that is sold seperately. (Unless you're lucky, you might find a pack that includes the game and the pad.) The animated backgrounds for the songs can also get on your nerves. Sometimes the arrows blend into the background and you can't see it. And other times, some of the backgrounds have a marquee-like scroll and your eye catches onto the background, driving it away from the steps.

Overall, I think this is a fantastic game. The concept is original and unique, and it's fun for anyone of any age. It's a great game for the whole family to try, or just for a good, fun workout. You'll enjoy this game, and it's worth the money.

If you like playing games and getting a workout at home, this is the game.

Great workout for anyone!

I am a 19 year old male, 5'7", and I weigh right at 300lbs. My ex-roommate got this as a Christmas present and I visited him one day when he was using it. It was very entertaining to watch him do this, because the music is upbeat and creative. I let him finish his workout (THIS THING HAS A WORKOUT MODE!) and I tried it. The first time I tried, I WAS HOOKED. I went out and bought a Playstation 2 just to have this game. This game is worth every penny. If you are dieting and can't find the time to exercise, and you have access to a Playstation 2, I recommend this game, first off, because it is easy to store. You can fold the mat up into a 1x1 foot square and put it in your sock drawer. Second- This can be a very easy game or a very challenging game. It involves quick footwork as well as fast thinking. Don't get me wrong, anyone can play, because it has an adjustable difficulty setting. Third- The graphics as well as the videos are awesome. I love cel-shading (3D cartoon effect). Fourth- The music is awesome. All of the music is upbeat and fun. I, personally, dont care for techno or R&B, but I really liked the arrangements that were on this game. Fifth - THIS IS SO MUCH FUN. If you are worried about what kind of game your kids play, you dont have to worry about this. This is safe for EVERYONE. If you want to shed away some pounds or want your kids to do something productive AND fun, I would recommend purchasing this. I love this :-D

Just an awesome game...

Wow...I had ordered this game for my little brother (Who is just now thirteen a month ago.) because he had begged me to. So I did, and everyone at my house loves it. Easily works you up a sweat, and has good songs, and on Light, Standard, Heavy, and Non-stop mode, you can see music videos.(In Beginner, it just teaches you the basics of the game.) A very nice add-on I might add. So you dance and listen to a good song at the same time.

People may not like in because in stores, the game CD costs around forty to fifty dollars. The Dance Mat I a bit less priced, but you can buy two mats over the internet for fifteen dollars, and the game for thirty. (I bought them off amazon. They arrived in four days.)

Overall, any DDR game is awesome. Thanks, Konami for coming up with a brilliant plan of fun and exercise.

the almost best game on earth

This game was given to me by my electronically obsessed uncle. Since i'm on the lazy side, i didn't really want to do it, but after 15 minutes i was hooked.
I tell ya, this game sucks you right in. There are many different songs, all with different difficulties, so there are songs suited for everyone. The graphics are pretty good, ranging from cute anime characters to some of the songs' original music videos.
Most of the songs are more on the pop side, but some are more techno and fast, and as i said before, there are original songs by Captain Jack and then there's that song- Days Go By- which is pretty recent.
When you start out there are a number of easier songs to pick from. After you do those you unlock more challenging songs, and then you might choose to do a more challenging level, which you choose at the beginning of each game session. If you're just starting, begin with BEGINNER.
Later, you might want to do WORKOUT MODE, which keeps track of how many calories you've burned, how many laps it equals, etc. It also logs your progress.
You do work up a sweat in this game, but it's not hard by any means. You can become really good in about 30 minutes, if you stick to it. It's also an effective, fun way to burn off the pounds. All my friends have lost fat, and we're really fit now.
The only problem is that there are a limited amount of songs. They do get kind of tedious after a while. Other than that, this a great game. Buy it, grab a water bottle, and start dancing!!!!!!! This game IS worth your time.

The best ever

Dance Dance Revolution is a game that changed the gaming world. The game originated in Japan in about 1997. It was a big hit and quickly spread to the U.S. It combines a pad on the floor with a screen that has arrows that move up the screen. The object is to get the best score of the two players.

Most sports and games today focus on hand and eye coordination. DDR focuses on foot and eye coordination. You have to hit the correct arrow at the time it goes up the screen. The game has over 300 songs to choose from. Most of the songs are trance, techno, and house.

DDR is also great for workout purposes. This game gets your heart rate pumping. Some of the songs are as fast as 300 beats per minute. My brother plays three times a week and he lost over 70 pounds in six months. This is the best way to workout because you can have fun while doing it.

They also have a home version; it's not just at the arcade. There are some limitations to the home version. The home version does not have as many songs as the arcade and the dance pads are not of the same quality.

Dance Dance revolution has 5 versions of the game. Over 65 songs are on each game and all games comes with a dance pad. I would recommend this game to all age groups. It's a great game and it never gets old.

Can't stop the beat!

Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) Max 2 has the potential to stay the very best party game for a long time to come. With so many things to discover, unlock, and plenty of songs to choose from, this game will never get old (unless your dance pad ceases to work). Mastering the beginner level is hard enough, but to venture to higher places on the DDR scale gives you quite a sweat and will be hard for any dance master and newbie alike. Songs vary, but mostly stay in the techno and disco range- the hardest yet most fun gameplay tht has ever been discovered. However, a few pop songs are on the playlist as well, just in case you have the urge to do the "robot" from listening to too much techno.

Other high points on this game include the double dance pad- a high energy level needed, but if completed, you should be commended for it- and a fabulous introductory lesson for newbies who need to learn how to get with the program; stressing out over not hitting all the marks is a no-no, but the intro displays this very well. Many experts will be pushed to the limit with the hardest feature, and to get it perfect wil require much diligence and training in levels before it. If able to complete this mastery level, you will feel a sense of accomplishment beyond your dreams.

If you can see it and dream it, then you can dance it out on Dance Dance Revolution Max 2.

Fantastic game, beyond fun

I played DDR one night with four of my DDR freak friends and I really loved it. Two of those friends use the game as their own personal workout system, with some good results. After research, I bought DDR Max 2 and some ignition 4.0 dancepads.

The gameplay is exhilarating. I started playing with my controller and dancing along because I couldn't wait to play. With or without the dancepad is fine, but it's more fun with the dance pad. Playing just to unlock all the songs and endless mode is addicting, I almost didn't want to leave my room except for food, bathroom and water breaks.

The graphics are great, with video in the background and the dancers it's enough to get distracted but it's welcome because it's like being at a real club with video screens.

The music varies slightly. There's mostly techno/trance/house songs, with some pop and r&b and soul thrown in. I knew most of the songs before I bought the game because there are a lot of dance hits and classics and there are some songs from the other DDR games on here. You're guaranteed to find something listenable, even if the songs are extremely cheesy ones.

Be sure to contact your doctor if you can't stand much stress on your feet if you want to use a dancepad.

My son used to be a couch potato with his games..

I didn't want to get my son any more video games this year because all the sitting around and not moving was not good for him. Than someone told me about this game...and the mat...you can't play it with out the dance mat (extra..not included)

Wow...what a wonderful thing its been. To see him playing a playstation game and exercising more than just his thumbs. He has been using it mostly in workout mode which starts easier and gradually gets harder as you *clear levels*... the music is a nice mix. Nothing all that popular (at least not currently popular) but lots of toe-tapping rhythm dance type numbers.

There is encouragement in the form of *keep it up, your doing great* type messages that come when you are doing well with the steps. The workout mode is also great as it tells you at the end of the song how many calories burned ...as well as equivilent amount of jogging, swimming and jumping rope you have just done. My son is keeping track, like a workout log.

This was a great idea and got my son up and moving. He thinks its a lot of fun and can see the progression of how much and how well he is doing. Doing this is quite aerobic and you can work up a sweat really easily. It's a little bit of time before you get the hang of it and the mat. You do look a bit awkward until you get used to it...but it is alot of fun and great for getting up and moving while having fun
