The songs make the game.

This is probably one of the funnest games I've ever played. I didn't come directly into playing it because I dislike the idea of sweating profusely in an arcade and stinking wherever I went after that.

At home, it's a different story. Even though this game is old, the trance songs(and dance songs) in this game are of the top from that time.

Love at First Sight -Kylie Minogue
Heaven - DJ Sammy
Take Me Away - 4 Strings
Days Go By - Dirty Vegas

And many other dance and j-pop songs.

If there is a newer version, you might want to go for it. But, when I did my search for a DDR game, this one seemed to have the most, best, and latest songs.

Also, get a durable pad. They don't last very long.

DDR Max 2, in my opinion, if the best of the American releases. There are many old favorites here and some decent new additions. All in all, a lot nicer than the newer releases with their popular music. If that's your style, get a newer game, but if you want an arcade experience do yourseld a favor and make the effort to track down a copy of DDR Max 2.

I know a lot of people use this as an exercise program and a lot of companies market it the same way. In their defense, this game can be intense. I was out of practice and after getting back into it I was beat just after a few songs. Made me realize that this game certainly provides a workout without you even realizing you're expending the effort.

Konami knows

I'd like to commend Konami; I can see a very earnest attempt to try to create a sort of more universal acception of the Dance Dance Revolution craze. DDRMAX 2 is a very good product of that attempt.

This, and DDRMAX have had some really great song choices for the American audience; Busy Child, Love at First Sight, and Sandstorm (a stroke of pure genius) are excellent songs that promote familiarity and confidence through known artists in what "cautious" Americans deem a crazy Japanese fad. These songs allow people to ease into the game, rather than simply bash it for it's techno and Japanese-ness like I've seen many do. The beginner mode for DDRMAX 2 was extremely important, and is definitely a requisite if more people are to accept DDR; many people are not very coordinated.

On a side note, I also have appreciated Konami's choice not to include the excessively vulgar songs. This, once again, helps to create a more accepting audience.

A nip is that DDRMAX does not have a beginner mode. That would have been extremely helpful in easing in frustrated beginners. A nip at DDRMAX 2 is that it's color scheme appearance and musical selection is rather dismal. A few more faster beat, energetic, popish, and fun songs (such as Breakdown, Groove 2001) would be greatly appreciated.

Despite this, Konami of America has done a good job in DDRMAX and DDRMAX 2, but for future games, more (neglected) DDR Best Hits would be appreciated (EVERYONE has been clamoring for Butterfly and Dam Dariram), as well as more spectacular American familiarities.

I would definitely reccomend buying DDRMAX and DDRMAX 2. Together, they provide excellent song mixes for both newbies and DDR maniacs alike, and they are simply spectacular at parties.

This game is just the best! I had heard about it through a friend and decided that a dance game would be a great, fun way to lose weight. I specifically bought PS2 just for this game! Anyway, I love the music on this game - I got pumped up right away - I do it all the time and I usually start sweating after 4 - 2 minute songs on light mode! It's a great buy - it's fun to do at parties too - buy it - you won't regret it!

Not So Hot...

DDR Max 2......

...gee..where do we start!

Not So Hot. That's what it is. Not as great as DDR Max, which was waaaaaay better. This version has some good songs.

...notice that I said "some"

The good songs are:

1) End of the Century: This is a remake of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, and it's awesome power of opera/something else
is very overwhelming. If I were to buy this game, this song would be the only reason I'd buy it. This song may also sound wierd at first, but you definetely grow onto it and you'll wanna play it over and over.

2) Can't Stop Fallin' in Love by Naoki: This song was a little scary, considering it was too slow. That's probably why they made the Speed Mix for DDR Extreme.
There are also some "suggestive references" throughout this game, so this game, like the others (DDR Extreme and DDR max) probably barely got the "E" rating by an inch.

3) Dream a Dream by Captain Jack: It just has a really good rythum and beat to it. It's a great song that doesn't need to be unlocked when you first do game mode.

4) Maxx Unlimited: I think this is a remix to DDR Max's Max 300. Playing this song, you have to be careful when the timing slows down then stops on the arrow, because when you least expect it, it will suddenly start back up to it's original bpm, which I think is 300.

5) Long Train Running by Pet Shop Boys: This song has the best style of a rock-kinda jazz. It sounds a little like Duran Duran, only smoother. This is the kind of song that would tempt you to let out your wild emotions and dance like a maniac. Don't ask me why, it just does.

6) Silent Hill: This is the best Christmas song I've probably ever heard. It has a inner warming, good kind of feeling, and it's very fun to play even if it isn't Christmas. In fact, it only reminds you of the joy of Christmas!

That's basically all the songs I can think of.

This game also has it's share of very annoying and extremely stupid songs. I'm For Real, again, is in this game! The Whistle Song is extremely annoying with its rapping. Conga Feeling is just not worth playing, a song that's so wierd, you can only play it once. Without You, just a plain, flat-out annoying boy band type of song, and many more.

My overall rating: 2 stars; only worth renting from the video store. (But if you want to unlock End of the Century, you have to play the game nonstop all night until you get it. Trust me, playing this annoying but awesome game is worth it if your goal is to unlock End of the Century.) Enjoy! ;-)

AWESOME!!!!!

DDRMax 2 is part of the Dance Dance Revolution series. For those new to the DDR series, you play by dancing around on a mat, hitting the buttons with your feet. It is quite a workout, and quite fun too!

The songs start out with easy footwork and build their way up to almost impossible. Along the way you build up energy, leg muscles, and burn off calories. They do even have a workout mode where you can track it - but I enjoy just diving into the game. You find yourself playing long after your legs are tired because it's so much fun.

While you can think about the videos that play being the music, really all you see when you're dancing is the stream of arrows that you're supposed to be following. I've found that while graphics vary from game to game, all I really care about is what songs are included.

This set is a mixed bag for me. Some of the DDR games have no songs at all I really enjoy. This one has a few. Now it's important to keep in mind that a song list preference is VERY personal! You might hate the songs I love. You might love the songs I hate! So it's key not to go by what I (or anyone else) says about a given song list. It's important that you look at the actual song list and choose a DDR game that matches your preferences well.

So that being said, there are perhaps 5 or 6 songs in this set that I enjoy. But the footwork on some of them is REALLY cool and I enjoy them a lot. So to me it's well worth it to have the game and play with those. Heck, think of it as having a CD that you love a bunch of songs on. Sure, you like other songs too - and you have other CDs.

This game is both fun and also good cardio exercise. My son loves it and still plays it. It is a good break from the traditional video game he plays.
