Far to short a game

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 4 / 4

This game had a great combat system, where you could at a glance see what you could and couldnt attack. Images and short movies are some of the best I have seen in a game. Story was far easy to guess, but still original, and credit for that.

BUT, my problem is this. I beat the game the first day I played it. It was far to short to ever get into it before it was over.

Great Story

Parasite Eve's best feature is probably the story. It's hard to put down. You really want to play as long as possible just to see how the story will reveal itself. I like this one better than Parasite Eve II. The second game has better graphics, but you lose the ability to customize/modfiy your equipment. Setting up your own unique equipment is a huge factor in enjoying the game. Too bad the game is a little bit short. But you can got through it a second time. It's actually better the second time around, even though the monsters get tougher. You can allocate more bonus points and effects to your weapon to compensate somewhat. I highly recommend this game. Especially to someone new to this type of game. Moving Aya around in this first game is a very simple task, unlike in PEII. The story is so involving that you would become a big fan of RPGs.

...and I still have the game in good condition. When i first bought my playstion, this was the frist game i played, hence the first RPG i ever played. I got it cause my friend said its good, and i saw the commerical (the one with the helicopter and the slime and Aya) and figured it would be good. Thank god i was right. Let's get into the battle system:

Now THIS is the meat of the game, for the most part. For me, in some games, I think that the battle system is the potatoes in an RPG. If its good, then you won't be bored. No, I will not compare this game to Final Fantasy or its sequel. This is Parasite Eve review, not my turn to play fan-boy. Your midocondria (i think) gives you powers. Like heal HP, Haste, Detox, and attacks. Your PE will we restored slowly in battle. While its restoring you can dodge your enemys attacks, and counter attack when your AT bar fills up. AT is active time, where a lil bar fills up depending your level and when its full you attack. And you can't attack just anywhere, mind you. You have a grid that is your range. Enemy out of range (grid) you will miss. Easy, but will keep you on your toes, and will be hard because you have usally more than one enemy to deal with.

Now THIS is the meat of the game, for the most part. The Story is Amazing. Just too short, but got me glued to my TV set. I will not say anything bou the story cause you already know by other reviews.

The sound is good, not great. Primal Eyes (the theme song) is geat with its fast paced piano solo.

Your ganna be hooked on this game, and will want to know what the title, Pasasite Eve, really means. You will know soon enough.

Like i said this game is great and its my first Playstion game. Now i own most of the final fantasy i own both chrono games, and i have a vast libary of Rpgs, and all because of this lil game. And it wasn't Final fantasy VII that got me hooked.

It was Parasite Eve.

Fun...... While it Lasted

I had never heard of this game until I bought it, and while it was fun, it was short.

The visuals were wonderful, coupled with the exciting blend of science and fantasy any fan of RPGs will like it. I had been looking for a unique game and I found it. There were morphing sewer rats, a six foot tall mutant opera singer, and one confused player. That's what made it good. I wanted to play until I put all the peices of the story together, which wasn't long.

The different places to explore and the customized weapons were a big plus, the relativly easy boss fights may have been a tad dissapointing, but impossible fight frustrate the gamer, and with Parasite Eve's complex story, ther was little room for frustration. It was about survival and answers.

I really liked it, and even thought the story itself left me thinking, Is that all?, I would buy it again. A plus side to the minimal game play is the EX game. 77 some odd floors of powerful weapons, old foes, and one big surprise waiting at the top, but I won't spoil all the fun. Let's just say that you don't need to finish the game a second time to discover the true ending of Parasite Eve. I can't wait for the sequal, it's the answer to my question, Is that all?

My RPG Exception

I've never been a fan of RPGs. My introduction to the RPG world was a Final Fantasy and it had me screaming as I waited for the enemy to make his move and kick my ass. But Parasite Eve is an exception.

I first played PE2 and, as a survival horror style game, it was pretty good and left me wanting the whole story.

PE is amazing. I was completely engrossed by the story line of mitochondria rapidly evolving. I kind of liked how I could upgrade weapons and powers, standard RPG stuff I guess. What really had me hooked on this game was that it had survival horror elements and was NOT a stupid turn based magic battle. The graphics are good, it's PSX, so unless you're some next-gen moron raving graphics are god, you wont be disappointed.

The only downsides to PE is that everyone walks with a stick up their... as in Resident Evil. Meh, no biggie. Oh, but those annoying magically appearing monsters. How I hate you. It becomes annoying very quickly when you just "cleared" a room, return, and a 20 foot monster and his posse materialize themselves out of thin air.

As for sound: Music was decent. I'm a big Silent Hill fan so this was a big step down for me. The opera music was atmospheric but everything else was just average.

This is a game where the pros b**** slap the cons and give birth to a classic. If you like survival horrors, and I guess RPGs also, don't skip on this CINEMATIC GAME MASTERPIECE(a lot of people miss out on the fact this is a game that plays out like a movie).

Oh, P.S.: WHERE THE HELL IS THE REMAKE FOR THIS, SQUARE?! DON'T ALLOW THIS GAME TO BE FORGOTTEN WITH OTHER PSX CLASSICS. AT LEAST SELL THE F-KING RIGHTS TO KONAMI. TEAM SILENT WOULD TREAT THIS BABY RIGHT.

THIS GAME RULES!

Okay. Let me tell you all, IGNORE ALL COMMENTS DISSING THIS GAME. In short, this game rules. The graphics are awesome, the storyline is fantastic and there is nothing else like it, and it isn't that confusing at all. And if it is, it's supposed to be. The battles are intense and usually hard, and they really get your heart going. By the end of the game, you really feel for the characters, and there are many parts where you stare after a non-interactive part goes through, saying, "WHOA! What was that! " or something like that. Aya isn't such a great name, but you can change it, after all! I'd say this is the best game I have EVER played, and it caused me to buy a playstation, which I never thought i'd do. I love this game!

Like watching a movie

I'm thirty-one years old and I usually play nothing but RPGs, such as the Zelda series, the FF series, Chrono, Breath of Fire, etc. Started playing this one because my teen-age brother forgot to put the CD back in the case and left it in the playstation console by mistake. Have to say I got hooked immediately.

Story plays out like a movie, and the dialogue sounds like something real people in the 20th century will actually say. Though other folks may find the game too short, it was actually one of the things I liked about it, since I have to work and don't have hours to spend in front of the playstation. Some people may also compare it with survival horror games such as Silent Hill or Resident Evil, but I think this game isn't as creepy (just for info, my measure of a game's creepiness is totally subjective and depends on whether or not I can play it at night when I'm all by myself :).

The pacing of the story is just right, just enough to hook you in so that you'll want to know what happens next. Beating the game once also enables you to play in ex-mode, where you can enter another area and find out a little bit more about Aya. In addition, the game allows you to carry over stats or features from previous weapons and armors so that, if you're obsessive about perfection, like most RPGers I know, you end up spending a lot of time customizing in order to get the best possible weapon & armor.

Battle system is nice too, kind of like dothack (where you can run around the enemy and essentially pause the game while you bring up the menu and choose what you want to do next) but without the camera whiplashing around like crazy. Good music as well. Overall, a good buy.

A wonderful game that will be played for years to come but...

Parasite Eve is, without a doubt in my mind, one of the many great games for Playstation. It's an RPG game mixed with a bit of sci-fi action.

Now, as I'm looking through these reviews, I can't believe some of them. Some people beat 1/5 of the game and thinks that qualifies them to write a review. It doesn't. One review I read said the guy hated it but didn't finish the game and another guy wrote a review only to ask for help on a boss fight...? You really should finish the game and then write a review.

Anyway, back to business. The year is 1997 and it's Christmas Eve. You play as Aya Brea, a 25-year-old NYPD cop who just arrived at Carnegie Hall (which is featuring an opera) with her boyfriend. The show is a disaster from the start. No, the actors didn't forget their lines. It was something more - serious. When the lead singer (who we believe is Melissa Pearce at first) starts her solo, everyone in the audience bursts into flames, except Aya and her date. When everyone in the theater is pretty much dead, Aya whips out her pistol and confronts the actress who identifies herself as "Eve."

To make up for the relatively short game, the producers put in an ex-game, which is only available after completing the normal game at least once. The ex-game is the same as the normal game except you gain entrance to the Chrysler Building. In there, you have to climb 77 floors and encounter a boss every 10 floors. During your climb, you gain items that are not available in the normal game and you get more powerful weapons and armor. On the 77th floor, the final boss awaits you. Defeating it will unlock the second ending to Parasite Eve.

I don't want to spoil the game for people. This game is one of the first games I've played on Playstation and I loved it right away. I do believe that this game will be played by many gamers for years to come but when I played it and beat the game, I was still confused by a few parts of the game. Maybe this is just me but I had to rent the 1997 Parasite Eve film (which covers the Japan incident as mentioned by Maeda) and that helped me answer my questions. I believe that a video game should answer all of the gamer's questions and that someone should not have to refer to a film to get those questions answered, which is why the 4/5 stars for the overall rating. But still, this game is fascinating and I highly recommend it. 5/5 for fun and 4/5 overall.

Underrated - Read The Truth

I am an experienced gamer who owns every "hot" system including PS2. The game Parasite Eve is very underrated. It has amazing graphics, gameplay with tons of actions, awsome full motion videos, and much more.

This is one of the best PSX RPG's ever made. It sure beats FF7 and comes very close to FF8. Your thumbs will burn and turn red, because you're not going to be able to stop playing. The plot keeps you wandering what's next, and what if. The graphics and sound are spectacular for the PSX.

It has practically no cons except for a few glitches during intense gameplay. The bosses are tough, the graphics are good, the sound and movies are realistic, and the gameplay is burning hot.

To wrap it up, I'd say even though this is an old game its still great and beats any FF except 8. If you don't own FF8 and are looking for a great, inexpensive RPG, get this. If you don't have any RPG's, get this. If you're just looking for an RPG with great sound, graphics, gameplay, and plot, get this.

Finished it in a weekend

I love Square, yes I do, and so I usually love everything they develop and publish. Parasite Eve, although it had an interesting premise and a lot of promise really failed to deliver in that I finished the game in a weekend. There just isn't a lot of side stuff nor replay value, recommend renting before buying.
