I love RPG's and this one was very good story line, and graphics..The Battle System was like FFVIII limit breaks where you must hit the button every time your character swings his weapon - so for those of you who don't like fighters this may get old unless you buy the Ultimate Wargod Ring. Also you cannot tote as many items as most RPG's let you - so you must learn to battle wisely and guard up when your HP is low. But overall it is a great game. I like to Dragoon out and get my wings going on this one...(32female)

What a piece of ...!

alright, this rpg isn't bad by most standards. but there are some points that are just unescapeable. like the battle system, suppose to be "revolutionary", all it is is just timed button pressing. and the traslation just ..., it's like the dialouge version of a bad dubbed-over japanese monster movie. the fmvs are beautiful, and sure you get to turn into cool dragon people, but it doesn't make up for the poor character development and boring gameplay. this is just four discs of a story with no heart or soul. i stopped playing it before the first disc was over. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY.

I've seen MUCH, MUCH better

When I first popped the game into my playstation, I was fascinated. The graphics were brilliantly done, and the FMV sequences were real cool too. If you are a twelve year old nerd, that may be enough to satisfy you, but I looked a little deeper and became disappointed. The storyline was extremely shallow and reminds me of what I wrote in 3rd grade creative writing. Also, the battle sequences and the whole "dragoon" thing are about as childish as Power Rangers or Sailor Moon. First of all, they got the meaning of "dragoon" absolutely wrong. The dragon knight is a lancer who is the champion of dragons, not some mighty morphin doofus who shouts corny slogans and casts overly flashy magic spells. So with all of that said and done, I must say that if you are content with action and flashy special effects or if you are some dragonball z type person, this game is for you. If you want something deeper, like a clear continuous plot or good characters, may I recommend any Final Fantasy game, Chrono Cross, Lunar, or Vagrant Story.

Umm...a little unchallenging...

When I bought this RPG it was with the idea that it would be an awesome game with great battle sequences, detailed story line, and a general fun game to play. But it left me kinda High and dry.

First off, unlike FF games and other RPG's Ive played,The story line was very basic. The only entertainment you get out of it is if Rose doesnt like something or if Hashel and Meru(The "comic relief" in the story.)are up to mischief.other than that it is a very plain plot where you can probably predict whats going to happen a disk ahead of time.also, you are very restricted on the ways you can move around on the world map. About the battles,I dont like the way they are set up.Fighting as each character seperatly is nice, but I wish instead of turns Sony had devoloped the classic real time fighting in this game. Also,Its kinda hard to get decent weapons anywhere in this game. The only other beef I have with it is that the music isnt that great, and in battle its hard to understand what there saying. But,this game has some pretty decent graphics.(The Dragoons look cool!)Also,I enjoy the addition sequences...they make you get into every battle.not just every boss battle. The towns look pretty cool, and there are enough bonus bosses and items that it keeps you looking for the challenge.Plus it spans four disks so beating it takes at least 55 hours.(I tested that myself.)

All in all I say that for first time RP Gamers that this is a good game to start with.but if your an expert or at least have experience dont expect anything ground breaking

Awsome game

this game is easily the best rpg that i have ever played. i've played most all fo the big/popular rpg's, and none have come even close to the quality of this game. the cinama scenes are way cool, and althought the graphics aren't as high class as FFX or FFX-2 or other ps2 rpg's, the plot and storyline and character development is nothing short of spectacular. the battles are fun, and the special dragoon transformation is awsome!! the only problem i have with this game is the fact that new weapons don't have their own images when in use. for example, in FFIX, each new weapon equipped for Zidane looked different, but sadly, all weapons look the same in Legend of Dragoon. but other than this minor detail, i love this game and give a gajillion star approvel.

It's all about the additions baby

I'll admit this game isn't perfect, and other RPG's for the PS have better graphics, animation, characters, storyline (though this is one great storyline), and certainly more emotion (I felt very little remorse for any of the characters)> However, this game has one fully unique feature that sets its combat system above any I have ever played: the additions. A quick explanation: the additions are combos that require precision tapping of the X buton, or O button when an enemy counters you (this can get extremely hard, as they'll likely counter during the hardest part of the combo). Each addition is different, the paces get harder as you go, but my god it's rewarding to see a completed addition and watch the enemy fry. I've seen many games that incorporate combos, but never an RPG that incorporates them so effectively.

Other pros include the animation sequences (though they sometimes appear in the most unlikely and random spots in the game, whereas others that should have animation do not), the voices/sounds, the looong storyline (lots of twists), and of course the Dragoon transformations. Cons include the poor world map (you have to move in select lines, you do not have free roaming like FF games), the cheesiness (oh yeah, on a scale of 1-10 this game ranks an 8 in cheesiness, and no we're not talking about cheddar), and the other bits I added earlier.

Overall a fine game, a bit in the shadow of other games that came out near this one's release (such as FF9, which lacks in storyline but is far superior in graphics/animation), but it has enough unique qualities to stand alone, and it really boils down to the combat sequences with the help of additions and Dragoon transformations.

good for it's time, but that's it.

unless if you appreciate the classics, you will hate this game. if you're used to playing games like Halo or Counter Strike, you'll hate this game.

compared to other titles of it's time, it's good, but not the best. i like to think of this as a dumbed-down version of Final Fantasy VII. that's probably one reason why i like playing this game. i'm no god of RPGs (even though i love playing them) so it's easier for me to complete a less complicated game like this as compared to FFVII and other such titles.

Great graphics, but lacks the gameplay to back it up..

I think the video game websites said it best: Legend of Dragoon is a wonderfully rendered game that lacks heart. The Graphics are 9/10. At best. The main flaw of this game is the terrible translation from the original japanese version. The translators seem to have trouble getting the main point across in plain english. This plus the fact that the writers are trying to be funny makes the story more of a joke (a bad joke) than a serious adventure. Looking for a four disc epic? Either look for Final Fantasy XIII or wait for chrono cross, those games are sure to please.
