A Mediocre Game

This game appealed to me for a few hours. However, after that, the horrible localization kicked in. God-awful voice acting + an OK storyline + inconsistencies in the translation + awkward dialogue = mediocre game. It may appeal to the casual gamer with its then-pretty graphics but it isn't for most RPG fans.
Who said this was a FF killer?

This game is ok. This is definetly no Final Fantasy killer, the graphics are no where close to what Square was able to pull off on the old PSX, the sound doesn't have the ambience of that which a FF game would have. The battle system is alright but I'm getting sick and tired of that annoying arcade-style voice saying the name of the combo every time you pull it off. They say it took Sony 3 years to make this game, I would have thought they could have done a better job with this game.
Not exactly a Final Fantasy

Being a fan of great storylines and the classic RPG battle styles, I did not care too much for this game. The story was good up to the end of the second disc, but then I just got bored with it. I didn't like the whole battle system and the fact that the amount of items you could carry was very limited. I will admit, the animation is pretty good, though, for PS one.
Few Dissapointments

Being a big fan of the RPG games, I'd say this game is pretty good. For the upside:
Additions Combat System (the final additions, aquired by completing the others, are a doozie--you're gonna cry before you actually get them, but it's well worth it.)
Totally Unique Characters (Unique weapons, magic, armor, elements)
The Deceptive Lloyd (He just LOVES to tick off Dart. I wonder why.......)
The Wonderous Plot Twists (I've beat the game, after 43 hours of dedicated work, the end is a little dissapointing if you don't endure the end credits.)
The Music; bein a musician(violist, an orchestra student)I love the "Theme song" At the beginning of the first disk. Watch the end credits, if only to hear the full version of the song.
Now for the Dissapointments:
You can't leave the path, you have to stay on the dotted lines on the world map, taking away the freedom of movement you get from Final Fatasy.
Lavitz dies. (Sorry! I gave away a not so well kept secret.)
Shana is the moon-child (Me and my big mouth!)
Counter Attacks
Lack of Side quests (Unless You count Faust, Kamuy and the Polter armor, helmet and sword)
The best items are NOT found lying around ( Sorry if it sounds stupid.)
Overall, this game is somewhat comparable to classics like FFVII,VIII, and IX. Rent this, and if you like it, buy it.
this game is better than any rpg games bottom line

The Legend of Dragoon is an epic adventure that enfolds as the past is enveloped into the future, and where dragoons once again walk the earth in an attempt to defy fate and fulfill destiny. The battle system in this game is simply amazing, with beautiful graphics on both spells and dragoon transformations, and each character has his or her own unique combinations, which make the game both more interresting and more challenging. The storyline is great, but it resembles the story of FF7 far too much. The cinema graphics make the game look amazing, although the sound effects are often too loud to hear the voices, and in the final cinema the lips arent cyncronized with the words, but overall the game is quite pleasing.

I think that I'm being generous about giving this game 4 stars since I got to the 3 CD and bought Final Fantasy VIII, I started plaing FF8 and when I went back to LoD it was so bad and all of the bosses were almost totally impossible unless you spent hours leveling up. But most of the parts were good. You had every spirit by the beginning of the first disk so it didn't have any more challenges left accept to beat the bad guy and what kind of story line is that for a profesional gamer like myself. This game is mostly for people who like to rent them. After about renting it 8 or 9 times you'll learn to move on.

I'm just really glad that i played this game at my friends house instead of getting it myself.i have to admit though,i did like this game at the very beggining.i did like the additions before they became an essential part of winning any battle.a lot of people like this game.well,im really into the final fantasy series.this game....its just ugh! On the second disc the plot starts dragging along with a bunch of other mini-plots added to it.i didnt like this game but maybe this is because im a eally haardcore gamer and im used to the final fantasy queality games.i have to say, though, the graphics in this game were incredible.the CG movies are the best ive seen.they actually set competition for the final fantasy VIII movies.anyway, unless you are a newcomer to rpg's,I say skip this one.

This game was a good rpg and it had a decent plot followed by decent characters unlike other games i refuse to mention *cough FF9 *cough FF8 *cough. I have Played many Rpg's in my time on this Earth and this is one of the more amusing ones. Due to Squaresoft's deteriorating game quality i feel that this is a small ray of hope in a sea of bad titles currently flooding the game market. Games such as Guardian Crusades, FF8, FF9, and for dreamcast Samba De Amigo?. I am glad sony at least attempted to make an original game and not just a marketing tool. squares latest ideas have been nothing but horrid shots at bad sequels ex: Chrono Cross.
Back To legend of dragoon this game has new characters which i am glad to see they put sometime not much but some. The battle system is hard to learn at first but eventually sticks with you the games only major problem is it doesn't pick up right away. If you grin and bear it for the first half hour or so and the game begins to open up a little. This game is not for all to buy but most to try.
