A Good End To The PSX

Legend of Dragoon surprised me with it's playability and interest. I enjoyed the battle sequences, and the characters developed well. The graphics were amazing in this game, and with the voices in the FMVs, the music takes the cake. This is a beautifully done game, that will bring you hours of enjoyment, without boring you with things that don't matter.

This game is incredibly simple for an RPG. Even new RPGers will have no trouble picking up, and becoming a master, at this game. Sony has created yet another masterpiece.

I have one thing to say in this games favor, the CG movies rock. With that out of the way I advise you run when you see this game. It just bad, bad translation, bad fighting system, bad ending. I mean "COME ON!" if I spend 50 of the "80" hours playing this pile o' poo at least let the ending be good. But nooo it had to be as dumb as the rest of the game. Sony needs to look at this game then go to repent. The figting system is just LAME! I can't recall all the times I was sent into a cursing tirade when I did not press the action button in time and my character got slaped silly. The translation is horrible and the story weak at best. A sad, sad game. But if you like cool CG movies and you want to waste some time and money this is your cup of tea.

What are you people on?

I found this game rather boring. At first I thought it would get better but it didn't. I found it one of the worse RPG that i have ever played. Plus sony rip off square soft with the dragoons as I rember it Final Fantasy 2 had a dragoon named kain and also in final fantasy 5 you can have the option to turn you charter in a dragoon or not. This is not right for sony to take the idea of square soft and toally mess it up it's not right. Final Fantasy is a whole lot better then this game I swear I will neaver buy a RPF from sony ever again it's a waist of money plus they don't know how to get a get going game at all. Plus Final Fantasy 8 is a whole lot better then this game. I swear I neaver seen such a good game this makes Golden Ax look like the game of best times.

the easy nice beginners or advanced Rpg it's really fun

hey this game is rad! first of all if you havn't ever played an Rpg this is eay unlike any cunfusing materia or jujunction things the game does it for you and you don't have to spen countless hours uping your levels to beat a boss becouse you shouldn't ever have to train.

It is also about 30 hours to beat the game wich is short scince most tsake about 60 hours. also you don;t spend an hour or two tring to find out were to go next.

also you don't have to buy a guide becouse it's so easy but it will help

It rocks!!

I played this game for several days, because although I was having very little fun from the start, I couldn't identify the reason. Usually, when I dislike a game this much, I always have some overriding reason why, such as "the story is a bore," "the battles are tedious", or even "the graphics are so bad that I can't even see it". LOD had none of these problems, but I just couldn't get into it. I got all the way up to disc 2, and yet it still felt like pulling teeth just to turn on the PSone, so I put it away and bought .hack. I wound up having a lot more fun, even though that game's story didn't make any sense--go figure. By reading the reviews here, it seems that plenty of other people were disinterested too, so I'm not alone I guess :)

Good try for Sony...

This game is good in a bad way. The GFX are better than FFVII but less than FFVIII, two games that came out years before this one. The CG movies are Final Fantasy(the movie) in looks, very nice. But, you can't judge a game by GFX and movies, you do that by game play and plot. The plot is about your main caracter "Dart" who is out to kill the man that burned down his home town, unlike Square's save the world in every game plot. The game play is very unforgiving to those that don't have good timing skills. You have special attacks that do extra damage, but if you don't hit the button just right you do very low damage and maybe counter attacked. The biggest problem with this game is the attack system (one of your caracters makes a move all of the monsters make theres or worst they get 2 or 3 attacks to your one) and healing is done by blocking for round after round after round to stay alive (that is why they have a 100 hour counter in the menu) making battles last far to long. Try renting it first before you buy it, not a game for all RPG fans.

The good, the bad, and the ugly in Legend of Dragoon

There are few truly bad things in Legend of Dragoon: bad battle graphics, laughable voiceovers outside of FMVs, and some hideous dialog. The battle graphics are choppy and jaggy, while most of the battlefields are too dark and lack color. Because of the fact that before every battle the camera pans the battlefield from several angles, the player can appreciate the low level of detail done with the character models and the flat backdrops. Outside of the beautiful FMVs (has anyone seen any bad FMVs lately?), the voices in the game are present only in the battle sequences. They take the form of attack names screamed out by the characters every time an addition is done. THE VOICES DON'T FIT. The dialog does the plot no favors. If you can ignore the outrageous lack of standard English conventions of spelling and punctuation, you'll realize that the dialog flickers between serious and comic "modes", with our heroes alternating between all-out prophanity and badly translated jokes. The villains likewise don't belong in the same game: Lloyd is aloof and cynical, while Fruegel is the epitome of cartoonish evil- he storms around, pushing his henchmen over stairs, etc.

Unfortunately, the game has lots of things that didn't impress me or were just mediocre: music, character development, battle engine, and game mechanics are some of them. The music is just not memorable. This is a certain trend in modern games, where music tends to be complex but not catchy, as opposed to the music in the RPGs from the previous wave of consoles, which tended to rely on a memorable tune. The characters in the game are standard fare for most RPGs, combining a moody young male hero, a frail heroine, a "mysterious" dark supporting female hero, and other regulars- a giant, a comic relief character, etc. Lack of development makes the stereotypes overwhelm any personality the characters might have had. The battle system relies on timed button presses to deliver combo attacks of varying lengths- "Additions". Every character gets more of these as he increases in level. Additions are set outside of combat (encounters are all too frequent) and each character can (and must) perform only one kind of addition in a single encounter. Sony forsook almost everything else in favor of this system- magic is only available in the form of attack items, or while in Dragoon form, when the character turns into a slightly more powerful dragon-knight form for several turns, and gains the ability to cast a series of similar spells. Most spells are for attack purposes only (the fire-based character, Dart, has an array of up to seven... surprise! fire-based attack spells). The spectrum of items available to you is underwhelming. The players are most likely to opt for a simple defense-up item rather than anything else because of the overwhelmingly frequent encounters. Your inventory is miserably small, considering the fact that most of your healing is going to be done with the help of items.

There are few things at which Legend of Dragoon succeeds impressively, and graphics are certainly one of those things. Graphics outside of combat, that is. The backgrounds are pretty and colorful, while the perspective doesn't vary too much from screen to screen. Nevertheless, the overworld isn't impressive in any way, considering the fact that you travel on rails, making it hard to backtrack.

The difficulty of this game is well-engineered, with very little leveling-up involved, which makes th game move rather smoothly. Involving, if unimpressive fair for any role-player.

It's not so good after all.....

Ok so when i started the game i was just amazed by the intro. The graphics and music were great but as the dialogues started it all went downhill. The translations were horrible, sober......they had no feeling. With this kind of dialogue the characters cant produce any kind of personality. They were just another boring person with a really bad english. It was so lame how they pictured the main characters as an orphan (tired), a prissy girl and a mama's boy. Although this really disapointed me i kept on playing. I have to admit that i was about to turn off the game when the battle stopped and Dart transformed into a Dragoon (i think this is the only thing i like about the storyline). I hated the battle system, having to push that button a hundred times when it is so much easier to select the attack on a menu and let it go. And how about the limited item list? My God, what were they thinking? I had to carefully decide which items i didnt want anymore so i could buy some new ones. But i need them all! how am i supposed to choose which ones to throw away when i need them all? (im pathetic i know) So yeah the graphics were good, the music was good, the storyline sucked, the characters sucked and the battle system sucked...........i hope this helps. See ya.
