very fun game

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 3

I bought this game not really knowing what to expect. I found myself really enjoying the game. There are so many things to do from catching bugs, growing flowers/trees and fishing. You get presents from other people in your town and you also find presents several other ways. Its fun to try to collect furniture and decorate the rooms in your house. There are so many things to do to keep this game interesting. It is in real time and there are certain bugs and fish you can only catch at certain time of the day and at specific times of the year. I enjoyed it so much I bought another game for my daughter. Every night we go to each others town via ds to ds download and we play the game together. I definately recommend this game.

DS or GCN?

So everyone knows that this is the sequel to the GCN version.
And there are many differences between them too. Like in the DS version one of the main downfalls is the dissapearance of the classic NES games from the GCN. There are many advantages and disadvantages. One of the main good things is the new equipment. Like the slingshot and watering can. There are many differences but some of the main pluses sre as follows:

Equipment
Accessories
Headgear
New writing system
Wireless connection

But another minus is the lack of holidays like Christmas, Halloween, and Thanksgiving in order to make the game "universal".

Animal Crossing

I don't even HAVE the game and I love it. My sister has a DS and the game, and sometimes she'll let me play without me having to beg. It's really fun! Everything has already been said, but there is one tiny thing. I name my character after me, but I find it hard to believe that I'l actually ever have to pay my mortage to a racoon or deliver a rug to a rhino. It takes away the realisticness of it.

WARNING - Too Nasty for Kids Under 15 (Game Uses Degrading Language)

My daughter is 10 and started to play this game, but I had to take it away from her for two reasons.

The first is a "design flaw" around the games response to the power being turned off during a game. On the Nintendo DS, it is quite easy to accidentally turn off the power during a game, due to the conspicuous location of the power / reset key near the right toggle button (and the screen pen). This happened once, and then a nasty character named "Mr. Resetti" appeared the next time she turned on the game and criticized her for turning off the power before saving her game. This could be a cute and helpful reminder, but it isn't. The character is very rude and abusive and persistent and can not be avoided. Considering that no damage is done to the game or the chip by powering down the game without saving, this feature is over wrought. Too many times my daughter has come running to me in tears, not able respond properly to this characters taunts and riddles. (She has here own Mac and Ipod and can program iTunes, iLife, send email, etc., so she is no whimp in the computer department.) She can waste 20 - 30 minutes getting past this character to return to the game. (Do a google search on Nintendo DS "Mr. Resetti" and you will find numerous bulletin board choked with pleading comments from exsaperated users about this hurtful character.)

The second reason is more subtle but more important than a software design fault. Mr. Resetti demands that the children playing the game type in various phrases before preceding. These phrases are numerous and demeaning and must be typed precisely. Two of the phrases are "I'm a cheater." and "I am a loser." I simply refuse to have my daughter play any game the make her sacrifice her own self esteem before a cruel and masochistic virtual animal character. Obviously, Nintendo has no sense of parenting, family values or human dignity by allowing such a feature to exist so prominently in its software. I am now wary of Nintendo's judgement and will look closely before buying any more titles from them. This software should be for teenagers 15 and over only.

sooooo boring

This is my first (and last) Animal Crossing game. I was browsing games to get for my new DS when I happened upon this one and thought it was something great due to all the good reviews. But I have to say this is the most boring game I have ever seen. There is absolutely no purpose what so ever, you just walk around talking to people, horrible. They could have at least thrown in a few puzzles.

This game isn't too different from the other one. A few more added features, but overall you probably will get bored of this within weeks if you have played the past animal crossing game.

My wife and I are fans of the original Animal Crossing on the GC. We were so hooked on that game! lol Well she and I purchased the DS version a few days ago. She and I are hooked on that one too! lol I have logged a good 15 hrs so far in just a few days on it. And my wife has a good number of hours logged herself. =) If you enjoyed the GC version, you will definitely love this one too. And for us adults out there, don't be afraid to play this game. Sure it looks kiddie but man it's fun! lol But as one guy said, the fun does wear off as time goes on. But believe me, you do get loads of enjoyment out of this title. I love the fact that there are many more species of life in the DS version, namely the saltwater fish. I caught a shark yesterday and it was too cool! I do see where the GC version is better than it's DS counterpart but that's no real biggie b/c it's still a blast for item collectors. There are once again so many things to collect and catch and such. The one thing in this game that really ticked me off is that I found out that I cannot get Tom Nook's Nookington's with the barber shop in it due to the fact that I am not connected with wi-fi and such and I only have one DS as well. I also only have a dial-up connection in my home. So it appears that the main store with the barber shop is off-limits for my wife and I. That is really really so irritating to me. Hence the 2 star overall rating. To me this was unforgiveable since the GC version I had no trouble getting the department store all by myself with my one copy of AC. Nintendo should have thrown in another way to get Nookington's for those like me out there in the gaming world. But to sum up this title, if you are ok with a "cutesy" game with an addictive collecting theme, then pick this one up. It's nearly as fun as the GC version and worth a look.

How Can You Not Love This Game?

Animal Crossing came out on the Gamecube in (2002?) and i got it in 2003. It was an awesomely unique game somewhat taking the idea of the Sims, but putting it in real time and making all the characters animals. Certainly unique, certainly fun, and was a blast to play each and every day, although not for a long period of time.

You play as a male or female human in your own town without a house. Tom Nook makes you a house and you have to pay it off ( extremely similar to the Gamecube version ). After you pay it off, you get upgrades, but it's not TOO easy, but it's not TOO hard.

Graphics: 9/10. Yummy. It looks better than the Gamecube version to me ( many many many MANY would disagree with that ) but it looks far better to me. Less blockiness, and great animations like the Gamecube version. The graphics are cartoony and very different from most games out there.

Sound: 8.5/10. A bit annoying at first, I got this game at about 5 PM and the music was very annoying and just continuously played a weird beeping pattern, but it wasn't THAT bad. The town animal's quick talking high pitched ( or low depending on animal ) voice is still there, you can still make a "town tune", it's all good.

Control: 8.5/10. Sure is easy. you basically use the D-Pad, and stylus or X,Y,A,B buttons, and it's fairly easy to get used to. I would reccomend the stylus way, though, because it just seems more convenient.

Fun: 9/10. Anybody who played the Gamecube version will find Wild World similar in a lot of ways, different in a few ways. you can now make a town flag, and the best addition: WIFI. You can play near or far with your friend ( if you have a friend code ). So if you can convince your friend to get a DS and this game, you're in luck because it's just like an online 3D chat site. Not just one friend, though, there can be 4 people in one town ( including you ) so you can all buy, sell, trade in eachother's town, and you can also just sit around and talk or meet eachother's neighbors in their towns. This is certainly a great game, one of the best DS games out there, may not be the best "hours-on-end" title for the DS ( I personally can't think of one except for maybe Mario Kart DS ) but it is amazing if you play in 30 minute to 1 hour spurts. Pick this up, whether you play Wi-Fi or not, it's a blast.
