Keeps you wanting more

I bought this game over a month ago and haven't looked at it until the last couple of weeks. At first I did not like the game, but after I started to get the controls down and understand what I was doing this game was awesome. RE4 is very interesting and the wiimote add some fun to the experience. Graphics aren't great, but hey, it's a Wii.

The story is intriguing and keeps you wanting more. I love all the items you can use, buy and upgrade. My favorite weapon is the old fashioned sniper rifle. The sound it makes when you reload and shoot on the wiimote is salivating.

I am only on chapter 5-2, but this is definitely one of the best games I have ever played. I have never played any of the other Resident Evil games, but after playing this one, I think I might go back and try them.

This game is worth playing through a second time

This game is very fun and pretty scary. I am a fan of the survival horror genre and RE4 is an instant classic.

On the Wii, aiming and interactive cut scenes are best played with the Wiimote and Nunchuck because aiming and shooting is a lot easier and more fun.

If you were looking for mind blowing graphics you wouldn't own a Wii in the first place, but you should be warned that this game is almost a direct port from the gamecube version so the graphics are not the best out there.

I reccomend switching off playing this game with a friend so you don't get too scared and of course at night time when it's good and dark.

Not Up To Expectations

I have been playing PC games for some time and have my favorites due mostly to their ease of use and the simplicity of the controls. Half Life and F.E.A.R. are great examples of what I like. This game falls far short in the ease of use and the sophistication categories. While the Wii control system is kind of neat, it also is clumsy and problematical. Not much fun this. High frustration level.

Great game!

If you don't own this game yet, go out and buy it. For 30 dollars, it is pretty cheap for a game this good with this much content.

I bought RE4 recently, because I saw it a while ago at my cousin's place, and I loved it. The plot is kinda B-movie, because the objective of the game (KIND OF SPOILER) is to rescue the president's daughter, but you soon get wrapped up in something far more sinister. The enemies are not zombies, but they are spanish villagers that are infected with (ALSO KIND OF SPOILER) a mind controlling parasite called "Las Plagas".

Plot aside, The gameplay is great. the camera is 3rd person, and it moves to over-the-shoulder when you hit B and draw your gun. This works well, but I wish that you had the ability to move while shooting, because all too often I was killed by an enemy I was running away from, to gain distance to shoot at.

The weapons work great, there are pistols, shotguns, magnums, rifles, and a couple other weapons such as the TMP which is a machine pistol, and the mine thrower which shoots darts that explode after a certain period of time. You can upgrade any and all of those weapons, in 4 different categories (several weapons you cannot upgrade the fire speed, i.e. the TMP) firepower, fire speed, reload speed, and capacity.
After you upgraded the weapon all the way in all the categories, then you can buy the "exclusive" upgrade for the gun, which is pretty neat. For the Striker shotgun, it increases the clip size to a massive 100! For other weapons, it may increase the firepower significantly or add other goodies, such as the standard 9mm handgun, which will have 5X the chance of getting a critical 1 hit kill headshot, but believe me, its not as great as it sounds. There are maybe a dozen weapons or so in all, excluding the unlockable ones.

All of those goodies are bought using the in-game economy, where you pick up money "pesetas" from downed enemies, or pick up jewels (you can also shoot them down, look around! they hide in tricky places! They're shiny!) that you sell to the merchant. He, in turn, sells you weapons and upgrades them.

The Wii controls felt natural and great, B button draws weapon, A shoots, - brings up weapon recovery screen, + toggles "wait" and "follow" for Ashley, Z and analog stick makes you run, Z and down on the analog stick turns you around, swinging the Wiimote or hitting C and then swinging the Wiimote or pressing A will use your knife, annnnnnnnnnd thats enough. Those are the basic controls you will use.

In all, Resident evil 4 is a great game, it it probably the most fun out of all of the RE4 ports. Don't miss out on this gem.

I can't put the controls down, this game is just awesome. I played this game on the ps2 and i found the wii version a lot better. A must buy for any wii owner and resident evil fan.

I beat this game a zillion times on both ps2 and gamecube and I still love it on the wii. the controls are so accurate, I rarely need the rifles.
Weapon upgrading is the best part of the game. It has the best weapon upgrading of any game I have ever played, and I have played a lot.
It also has some pretty good graphics, but considering it started on gamecube, they look a little dated and blotchy.
Anyway though, this has to be one of the best games I have ever played. Get it now!
by the way, I think its ranked as like the #11 game of all time on [...].

Wii's best game is RIGHT!!!

I really, really hate reviews for re-released games that insult you for not having played the original when it was super popular. I had a PS2 and a Gamecube, but never got around to playing Resident Evil 4 on either of them. Then when I was reading reviews for RE4 on Wii it seemed like every reviewer was coming from the standpoint of "is it worth playing it _again_?" Some even insulted my gamer integrity, because of course you're not a REAL gamer unless you play every single popular game that comes out. Well I know I'm not the only one out there who hasn't played Resident Evil 4 before. This review is for you.

The first thing I have to say is, I never played through any of the previous Resident Evil games because of their bizarro control scheme. The good news is, the controls in RE4 are straightforward and (I think) easy to use. For the most part it's a traditional over-the-shoulder third person shooter. The only thing that might strike some players as weird is that you have to hold in the B button to aim (which is done with the Wii Remote) and then press A to fire. It's a little cumbersome, but you get used to it fast. Aiming with the Wii Remote is very satisfying, but I imagine it does make the game a little easier than it was on PS2 and GC. My only gripe with the controls is that during some of the cutscenes you are prompted to swing the remote wildly or rapidly press buttons. Sometimes failing to do so results in instant death. These moments have a very die-and-retry quality, because unless you know they're coming you will probably be caught off guard.

Speaking of cut scenes, the game has a pretty effective story. The writing is good, by video game standards, and the graphics and sound create a very creepy atmosphere. That being said, the ending is pretty dragged out. I kept thinking I was close to the end when a whole new section of map would open up. Although this stretching results in a reasonably lengthy game (I think it took me around 20 hours), the story doesn't hold up as well toward the end. There is also a lot to unlock. After you finish the story, you get the option of replaying it while retaining your items from the first playthrough, or playing on a new harder difficulty. You also get the Separate Ways missions, which allow you to step into the (uncomfortable-looking) shoes of another character who occasionally crossed your path during the main game. Finally, you get the Mercenaries mini-game, which I haven't had a chance to play through yet. There's a lot of bang for your buck here.

If, like me, you've put off playing Resident Evil 4, this is probably the most fun way to check it out. It certainly lives up to the hype, even a few years after its original release.
