can't get into it

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 3 / 22

I found the controls on this ridiculously hard to learn and frustrating. Also, the game is very dark, and the view in front of you is so narrow that it's hard to find your way around or even get a sense of what's around you. I play for like 5-10 minutes, get mad and frustrated and turn if off. But that's just me...

Not True Widescreen

Let me first say that this game is one of the best horror games ever created, and deserves to be ranked top on video games of all times charts.

My problem with this game, specifically for the Wii, is that is does not support true Widescreen. Instead, you get a cropped and stretched standard 4:3 resolution. You may not notice the difference from a television that is distanced, but when you compare it to Capcom's other Resident Evil Wii game, Umbrella Chronciles, one can see clearly that RE4 does not support true widescreen.

Furthermore, it seems as though they screwed up the component cables, so the game looks even blurrier. I'm surprised that this wasn't picked up by critics, which makes me wonder if they played the game at all.

Sadly, this game has worst graphics than its last gen counterpart on Gamecube and PS3.

Clumsy Gameplay

Apparently, according to the other reviews, I'm the only one who almost hated this game. I rented this game for the sole reason that it got nothing but high praise. I played this game for ten minutes, put it away, and never looked back.

I'll say this for Resident Evil 4 in that every other aspect of it besides game play is just decent. The story line is just ... well ... okay. The graphics are top notch for the Wii, though. However, it's the game play that ruined this game for me.

The use of the Wii remote is extremely clumsy, and not very innovative either. You have to use your joystick on your numchuck, in coordination with a button, in combination with aiming with your wii remote, in combination with another button just to aim and shoot. Sounds simple, right? Not really when you have about 5 or 6 zombies storming you. You end up alot of times getting your view distorted when trying to fire at someone. Your view of yourself gets in the way a lot of times, and you end up seeing a person's legs when you can't see the rest of him because you're so worried about aiming and firing that you forget to hold your C button down just to look up instead of walking right into the person. I ran into this a lot. By the time you think you've got it down, the screen comes up saying, "You Are Dead".

I will say this, however, to those of you who might actually take this review to heart. I never have liked the Resident Evil games in the past because I always thought the game play was always crap, and always hard to use. I gave this game a try because the view and the way you move around and shoot are changed to fit more of a FPS style. I thought it failed miserably in this aspect, and felt that Capcom could have done a much better job tweaking the controls in this game. Also, to me, the game play is the MOST important aspect of the game. If I can't pick it up and play it without frustration within a short period of time, then I don't like it. I don't care if the graphics and the effects are off the charts. If the game play stinks, which it did in this game, and the story line is bland, like this game, than I'm not going to like it. That's why I gave this game 2 stars. The only reason it got some stars was because of the good detail that went into this game.

Bottom line: if you don't mind bad game play and a bland story line, than I suppose this game is for you.

Great Game! (Too Violent Though)

Ok, so I was expecting this game to have abundant amounts of gore... well it did, probably even more than I thought. Oh well, besides the graphic (almost laughable) amount of gore, this game totally rules. There's nothing more comical than a villager/zombie coming at you with a chainsaw shouting in German... it hilarious and downright horrifying at the same time. The graphics in this game are wonderful! As is the gameplay... I don't actually own a Wii, but my friend does, and we played this for 7 hours straight. The story is great, (however shallow) and the controls are very well designed. As far as content goes, the language is NOT heavy, but the violence is extreme and gory and not really healthy for children under 15 or so. As a Christian I felt this game was mostly pure ethically, (there's nothing sinful about blasting away zombies.) This game is strictly good against evil, meaning the good characters do not practice witchcraft, murder etc. Another redeeming element of the game is Leon's genuine concern for the president's daughter, this was a good element as it shows how a real hero should act.

Bad game for the wii's controllers

I like the wii and think its motion sensing controllers work great for some games. When i played this game on the wii however the controller and nunchuck did not seem right at all. I don't think the wii's controllers work well on first person shooters.

The shooting is awesome aiming at zomibes is awesome the only thing why I gave it a 4 is because the shaking of the wiimote is stupid if I am runing why shake it? on raving rabits you use the wiimote and the numchuck and go back and forth with it as if you where running they should of with this game but fun. gross and hella cool

Resident Evil 4 good but not great

This game is fun but the control system takes alot to get used to as well as the fact that you cant change it at all.
running and moving while aiming are extreamly slow compared to a controler or Mouse.

Ok, after the over-the-top title, I just want to say it's better on Wii than the other consoles. I recommend it.

Zombie (mother) from hell!

Great game - reportedly - (the five score are from my sons aged 12 and 14). They say it is very frightening. Exciting. I reviewed the cover only upon arrival and saw that my 14 year old had ordered a 17 year old and up game. We sent it back immediately although he can walk 3 blocks in the cold and play it in a public spot. We cannot control our children, their choices and their desires but I wish we could instill some social conscience in Nintendo to stop training unsupervised twelve year olds for war. (Signed hippy mother).

Great control

With the way the control is set it gives you a better way to handle the game making it a lot easy to use the weapons.
