Best game ever...

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1

This game is in itself amazing... I played and beat it twelve times back for game cube.... And the WII makes it worth the buy. Because of the new controling with the WII remote.... Accuracy is loads better. I unlocked all the targets on the shooting range with the remote. On the gamecube, I couldnt do that..... Story-line is amazing and all the extra features that come with it for the WII makes it worth the buy. Seperate ways shows what it's like with Ada and what she did to help during the game.

Can't say much that hasn't already been said...

As the other reviews would lead one to believe, this is an amazing game. I've spent the majority of my gaming days (the last 10 years) on high-powered PC's with cutting edge GPU's, but after purchasing the Wii this year, I'm not sure I'll ever feel the need to go back to it. Part of what makes this game so awesome are the Wii controls and how well the developers integrated them with this port. After only a few minutes of play, everything felt intuitive and natural. After an hour or so, controlling Leon was almost automatic in the way that controlling him on a keyboard and mouse combo would be. I didn't have to think about the controls, which allowed for greater immersion into the game. I sincerely hope that any future games of this nature (action/adventure shooters, both first and third-person) take heavy notes on the way RE4 was done.

Aside from the Wii specific control feel, the game itself is outstanding. The story is immersive, the action and pace are perfect and the difficulty is just about right (though hardcore gamers might find the initial difficulty a little too easy). At the end of the game, I logged in just over 21 hours save time and I was entertained from start to finish. And after finishing Leon's story, the two Ada side-games became available. Operation Ada is short, sweet and pretty much to the point (I completed it in well under an hour), whereas Separate Ways is a bit longer (5 hours or so). Both are as enjoyable and interesting as the rest of Resident Evil 4, so of course, I was as hooked on the bonus missions as I was the primary game with Leon.

The other bonus game included is called The Mercenaries, and it's not really a game in the sense of what the rest of RE4 is about, it's more like an Unreal Tournament Deathmatch with Zombies instead of Bots. There's a little bit of strategy involved as the stages are timed, so you only have so long to complete them. The basic object of each stage is to kill as many zombies as you can, scoring points in the process. Higher scores and kill counts mean higher rankings (from 1 to 4 stars), and a 4-star ranking will open up another character as a playable selection for Mercenaries (you start out with just Leon). Each character has a specific set of weapons, movement speed, melee attack and armor; so whether you play as Leon, Ada, Krauser, Tank or Wesker gives each stage a different feel and greatly enhanced replay value for me (I'm addicted to running the stages with Krauser and that crazy arm of his myself). I honestly wish there were more levels for the Mercenaries side game, it's THAT fun 9for me anyway).

The sound and music are definitely adequate, and the camera angles and scripting combined with the ambient and creature sound effects make for some edgy moments. Overall, the audio was well done in my opinion.

The graphics aren't exactly cutting edge, but once I got wound into the game play and the story, the graphics didn't seem to matter anymore. For under $30.00, this game is a no-brainer, get it and experience the power of a good game done right on the Wii.

Super Fun

I go in and out of spells where I play video games for a while then I stop playing them for a long time. The last Resident Evil game that I played was the very first one for the Playstation. This one is soooo much more fun to play with the Wii controlers. I am still having a blast with it.

Kudos to Capcom!

I am gamer from the old days when games were simple, original, and fun. I have all but given up on gaming as every game seems to me a rip off of something before it with better graphics (hopefull). That being said, Resident Evil 4 on the Wii is perhaps the best game I've played in ages. The visual style is so rich and the sounds are so authentic that it just sucks you right into it.

The first time I played I was turned off by the controls. But the game somehow compelled me to learn them and once I did, my nightlife was changed dramatically. I must warn you, I will find youself losing sleep because you just can't turn it off. You really become the character in the game. Kudos to Capcom. More captivating than DOOM3 on a high-end PC. The best game since Mega-Man on the original NES. Gamers - enjoy!

This game is pretty addictive!

So I beat Zelda for the Wii and was looking for a new challenge. I thought Resident Evil 4 looked interesting so I decided to give it a shot. About 20 minutes in, I was completely addicted! Be aware that the game can be considered pretty gory and dark so its definitely not for the faint of heart. But if you don't mind heads getting blown off, chopped off or blood baths, this is the game for you! Plenty of action, great graphics and an interesting story line. I did beat the game, though it took some time. The great thing is, after you beat it, you can play similar storylines and challenges with other characters. Overall I was very impressed with this game and would recommend to anyone who can handle the violence...definitely not for the kiddies!

The best Resident Evil I've ever experienced ... and not just because this is the first one I've played!!

I've always been a casual fan of Resident Evil in the sense that I would play it at my friend's house for a little bit and try to help him with the puzzles. However, I never thought that I could get used to the camera angle. (I'm used to games with free-roaming 360' cameras like the Zeldas, Splinter Cells, and Hitmans of the gaming world.)

However, after playing this game, I can only say that it adds to the gameplay experience, especially when you hear the ominous "enemy music" but don't see them on-screen. Yes, this does make the game harder, but I think that's the appeal of this game, and in particular the series that created the very genre that it is a part of.

My only real complaints about the game are that the graphics don't seem to be touched up for the new gen (I did get a quick look/gameplay at the GameCube version, but it was another one of those casual gaming things that I played the game at one of those GameCube displays in a store.) and I did think that, while manageable, the game threw you in to a difficult battle situation a bit too early (although this has nothing to do with learning the controls and everything to do with being five minutes into the game and ... well, I'll let you play it for yourself and find out). Later, these same kinds of situations come up, but by that time you have more experience and have had a chance to upgrade your weapons and health, so it's not as much of an issue. I do, indeed, love the point-and-click weapon controls. However, I do wish a few minor improvements. First, I would have liked to be able to look around the room with only the use of the Wiimote instead of also using the Nunchuk's analog stick. This does become a pain early on in the game, but it's all part of the learning curve and really not that big an issue. However, I can see a point to this as it does allow you to relax your hand/wrist a bit and not have to point it directly at the middle of the screen for the duration of a gameplay marathon. So, I guess it's six in one, half-a-dozen in the other. Another fine tune that I would have like to see is using only one button (preferably the B trigger) to fire, rather than using B to bring up aiming mode and then A to fire. The idea of run-and-gun that some people complain about not being able to do was not as big of an issue for me. I much preferred to take an aimed headshot compared to shooting while running. This helps you conserve ammo, which is a big necessity in this game. I had to finish off this one late-game mini-boss (El Gigante) with four or five swipes of my knife because I had run out of ammo!! (Note: I think that was more of a proud moment for me than actually beating the game, considering that I was at about 1/10th of a bar of health with no herbs or sprays in my inventory.)

A short synopsis of the plot goes as follows: The game takes place six years after the events of the original outbreak and the destruction of Raccoon City. (Please note: this is a late spoiler alert for those of you like me who have never played the original Resident Evils.) Leon Kennedy makes his return to gaming glory as a member of the United States Secret Service on a mission to find the President's missing daughter Ashley. He travels to an unnamed country in Europe, although it's most presumably (yeah, that might sound like improper English, but it gets the point across, right?) Spain. I, obviously, won't give away any of the actual plot to the game, but I will tell you that he is about to expend more ammunition than any member of the Secret Service in the past, present, or, most presumably (there it is again!) future.

Overall, this is a fantastic game and one that should not be missed. Add this main game to the originally exclusive PS2 additional content, and you have a spectacular game that would probably be a 10 in the value column at $49.99 ... except that it's only $29.99. Sadly, there is no 15 out of 10 rating for the value.

A no-brainer if you own a Wii

Obviously the best version of RE4 out there. Controls are quick to pick up, and some movements are very intuitive (EG you can swing your Wii Remote to do a quick knife slash). The game itself is obviously fun, and the new controls surprisingly offer enough "unfamiliarity" (for lack of a better word) for your umpteenth playthrough of the game to be pretty entertaining. The price is right too.

You can't turn off the letterbox, but I'm not too bothered by it, even though I play games on a widescreen TV. Keep it in mind though.

RE4 rocks the House...

Best Wii game out there. Truly spooky, great action. The feeling you get when you blow that first zombie-head off...priceless. A great game at fifty bucks - at thirty bucks this is an absolute steal. Watch out for that guy with the chainsaw though.

Gift for my son

My son (26) loves this Wii game. The president's daughter is hard to protect, she keeps slipping away... The graphics are very realistic and game play is intense and even scary. It's a good one.

Excellent, addictive game

First my negatives:

- Annoying the way it saves a game (you have to be at a specific point with a typewriter)
- WII controls are irrationally laid out; the trigger button is not a trigger!
> Up is down on the controller, but this is probably an 'age thing' & can be reversed in settings
- Story line is a bit weak & seems a non-native English speaker wrote story; it's OK & not a big game factor
- Graphics are really good & I have only seen a few seconds of freeze as was about to play a video sequence after hitting a point

Good things about game
- Excellent game & controller (with above annoyances) work very well
- Good shooter game with good variety of weapons
- Amazing scenery variations
- Amazing how large & extensive each level (chapter) is
- Good & Fun, but not super difficult, yet clever puzzles to solve
- The girl you're rescuing is not a helpless idiot (& you do a scene as her; very clever!)
- I have played for many more hours than I thought I would & have no idea how much longer it goes

Great game, but it is a shooter game, even if they are zombies and dissolve into goo. The gore & violence level is not something I would let a young kid do (I'm a parent of a 22 year old). How old? Well, you do better in the game (rewarded) if you shoot the zombies in the face and they look like realistic human beings & yell in pain at being shot. So, can your kid really understand that this is really rather horrifying behavior? I doubt it is worse than many other shooter games, but I would strictly adhere to the product warning label & age appropriate suggestions.

Greatest surprise was that I really like this game, given to me as a gift (!), and I am probably 3 times older than the average player. The Wii truly is a game box that has opened gaming to the older crowd and Resident Evil is an evilly good game!
