A hilariously fun adventure

This is a great deal, a 2CD game with excellent animation, great voice acting, and a script with all sorts of twists, gags, and memorable lines that you'll find yourself repeating long after you've finished the game.

The game focuses on the exploits of Guybrush Threepwood, a Mighty Pirate, and his neverending struggle against the evil (and dead) pirate LeChuck. Guybrush's love, Elaine Marley, has been turned into a statue of gold thanks to a cursed engagement ring and its up to Guybrush to restore her.

Lucasarts has always been the king of adventure games, and Curse of Monkey Island is no different. There's a bit of simulated combat, puzzle solving. character interaction, and just plain fun as Guybrush attempts to recruit a pirate crew and sail off to find a cure for his beloved Elaine.

Along the way he meets vegetarian cannibals, lactose intolerane volcano gods, Murray the talking skull, Dingy Dawg, and all sorts of other interesting folks.

Also, Curse of Monkey Island is a game that you can let your children play without worrying about them being exposed to gore or profanity. The world is light hearted and funny.

I hightly reccomend this game, its a refrehsing break from a lot of the gore fests and ultra-serious games out there.

Simply the best adventure game ever made

In the annals of adventure gaming, the Monkey Island series stands alone. The original game was one of the first games I ever bought back in my 286 days. This third installment is miles ahead of its predecessors in terms of technology, gameplay, and--thankfully--fun. The storyline, character integrity, acerbic displays of wit, and history of the Monkey Island universe were not sacrificed in the name of animation, voice acting, and graphics. The music that has always been such an important element of the games has also been improved, and we are now even treated to a couple of pirate songs in the course of the game. While anyone can enjoy this game immensely, old Monkey Island fans like myself are treated to a number of in-jokes and can delight in the return of a whole host of characters we already know so well--Wally the cartographer, the unforgettable Stan, the voodoo lady, Lemon Head and his fellow vegetarian cannibals, Elaine Marley, and--of course, the evil pirate LeChuck. And monkeys, of course. I was very impressed by the voice acting; virtually all of the characters sound just like I imagined they would, and there is a subtlety in the delivery of lines that makes the corniest of jokes work effectively. The new characters Guybrush meets in the game are also rich, amusing additions to the adventure: three ex-pirate barbers, very strange Shakespearean actors, a hilarious young entrepreneur who goes from selling lemonade to running guns, the last remaining member of the Goodsoup hotel/resort dynasty, a wild cast of pirates, unusual carnival workers, and a number of other delightfully amusing folks. The whole world contained in the game is rich, detailed, and very well done. A lot of attention, detail, and dare I say love went into the creation of every background from start to finish. A lot of time passed between the last game and this one, and I appreciate the creators' desire to release this game only after it was entirely completed.

Here's the story in a nutshell: our hero, Guybrush Threepwood, set out to be a pirate, despite his physical build and unfortunate name; along the way, he fell for the lovely Governor Elaine Marley, who by this time has finally come to love Guybrush (for some unexplainable reasons). The ghost pirate LeChuck also loves Elaine and is continually trying to make her his undead bride. Naturally, this has led to some problems for Guybrush--although he has "killed" LeChuck a couple of times, his enemy continues to molest him and seek Elaine's hand in marriage. There is some lack of continuity between the second game and this one, but it is inconsequential. As this game begins, Guybrush finds LeChuck besieging the fortress of Elaine and manages, in his usually inept yet successful way, in thwarting LeChuck's plans. Elaine finally consents to marry him, but unfortunately the ring Guybrush puts on her finger is a cursed ring from LeChuck's stash that turns Elaine into a solid gold statue. The game revolves around Guybrush's mission to break the ring's curse, thwart LeChuck's evil plans, and somehow manage to stay alive. Along the way, much hilarity ensues.

Anyone wanting to discover how good adventure gaming can be should play this game. It is first-rate in story, graphics, characters, etc. The designers delight in making fun of themselves and the genre, going all out to produce a witty, funny, thoroughly enjoyable experience. You could choose the most direct lines of inquiry and questions and not bother to look at and play with every single object in the game, and you could still enjoy a wonderful game. The real fun, though, comes in experiencing everything in the environment. There is virtually nothing that you can't do that the designers didn't already think of and add a bit of wit and humor to; the game is a virtual time capsule of corny jokes. There are even two ways to play the game; if you are better at puzzles than I am, you can choose to play mega-puzzle level and add even more richness to the experience. At either level, this game offers intellectual challenges, laugh-out-loud humor, and a rich game experience that is second to none.

A great game, but some annoying glitches....

This game is great. Simply put, it shines at the top of its class. The game has so many jokes and puns that you'll be laughing more than you'll be playing. It has great cartoonish graphics that perfectly compliment the games already hilarious story, adding hilariously drawn characters and scenery. The puzzles are perfectly done, not to hard, with just the right amount of thinking and common sense put together. Sound is awesome, as each character sounds completely different, ranging from primitive piratey to snooty french (no offense intended) to laid back hill-billyish and everywhere in between. However, there are some very annoying glitches with the game. The game requires Windows 95. Now I have Windows 98, that should'nt be a big deal, but since this game came out in 97, there were some major problems with starting the game. Now i'm not saying that the problem had to be windows, but i had every thing it needed and more... way more, and the only difference I could find is the windows 95/98. So if you have '98, you can partially solve the problem by downloading DirectX 7.0a or above, which helped me start the game up, and help it run smoother. One other main glitch, is if you have a program running in the back, like if your downloading music or movies, and it stops or finishes, the game can lock up, and exit, so if your downloading anything, you may wanna wait to play this game. Altogether, I would definately've given this game a 5 star rating, as it so sorely deserves, but these glitches can't be discounted, no matter how small.

Curse of Monkey Island (Jewel Case)is one adventure game that everyone has to play. This is one of the best advneture games I've ever played, other than Myst and The Longest Journey, which were very exciting games to play too! Anyway this review is about Curse of Monkey Island (Jewel Case) and I shall stick to that.

Storyline: Guybrush Threepwood stupidity has caused him to turn Elaine Marely into gold and he must rescue her from the evil demon pirate LeChuck.

What's so nice about Curse of Monkey Island (Jewel Case)? For starters : humour. This game keeps you laughing from the start to the end. With it's incredibly funny puns and the way the game pokes fun at today's culture ( such as the THX ad ) makes Curse of Monkey Island (Jewel Case) one heck of an enjoyable game to play!

Playing Curse of Monkey Island (Jewel Case) was like playing a giant interactive cartoon movie! Comical high resolution graphics really gives you an unforgettable exprience.

The game interface is easy to learn. Basically, Curse of Monkey Island (Jewel Case) is a point and click graphic adventure. For example, if you wanted Guybrush to examine an item, all you have to do is click on the item, drag your pointer to the skull that appears and voila! Guybrush will tell you in full detail all about the item and it's usefulness.

The sound and voice talent is FANTASTIC! The music of Curse of Monkey Island (Jewel Case) really makes you feel as if you are in the Carribean. The voice acting is great. The characters in the game were brought to life with the incredible voice acting done by many many talented actors.

As with most adventure games, Curse of Monkey Island (Jewel Case) is a puzzle based game. Collect items and combine them to solve many well integrated puzzles in the game. Frustrating at times, but the sense of being able to slove the puzzles keeps you going.

Curse of Monkey Island (Jewel Case)comes in two modes, one easier than the other.

Curse of Monkey Island (Jewel Case) is a classic. With its new low price this is one game that is value for your monkey... I mean money. It is a refreshing game that steers away from the other 3D first person shooter games in the market and with it's delightful humour, this game will ease all your tension after a hard day's work. Curse of Monkey Island is the third in the popular adventure series, Monkey Island, which started with the 'Secret Of Monkey Island'. Is this better than first or the second? Yup.

The game has two difficulty levels, one for people who are more puzzle inclined and one for people who aren't. The two modes are great and there is some variety between the two so you can play it easy and then re-play it hard.

The games jokes are hilarous, from the "evil" talking skull Murray to the vegitarian cannibals, the jokes don't stop. Another great feature of this game is the fact that it is impossible to die. So you can experiment all you want with whatever inventory items or walking into a evil pirate's lair or such and you won't be killed.

This game is highly recommended for anyone, even if they never played the first two. It is great!

5 stars and even more, if i could, i'd grade it 6 stars!

It the best game i ever played,nothing beats it, lots of fun moments, a bunch of secrets and stuff you could only find if you pay good attention, game's puzzles are very funny and not impossibly hard to beat, there isn't a single moment out of which you could get your character out..., so you won't see your character die like in most Sierra adventures, Hilarious, i was laughing from the entrance cutsene 'till the end of the game, very high replayability, you'd want to find out what would the character answer if you said something else...? Cool music, astonishing music for every place you're in, every character's own voice..! Meet some old characters from the first and second monkey island, such as Stan, Lemonhead,Elaine,LeChuck,Wally and Guybrush!, the insult sword fight is back, only this time, on high seas,Be the king of the seas! all that and much much MUCH more is the Curse of Monkey Island! It is even as good as the first 2, believe it or not...

Lechuck Strikes Again!

This installment into the Monkey Island saga is probably the best, and most technologically advanced of the three. This game is a sequel to the previous one, Monkey Island 2: Lechuck's Revenge, so I suggest playing that one before playing Curse of Monkey Island. It will just help bring you up to speed. But what I do like about this game is that it offers the player two different skill levels. One offering the average amount of puzzles to solve, and the other one offering twice the amount. This helps keep the game from becoming old and boring, which is the problem with a lot of the role-playing puzzle games once they've been run through a couple of times. This has a great story, spanning two islands with tons of hilarious characters to interact with. Another point to note is that this game has a considerable amount of scenes that make the saga fan think back to previous games. A lot of series games tend to move on without any recollection or recognition of their humble beginnings, and I think the programmers wanted the players to know this. Either way, this game is excellent and pretty user friendly. I would recommend this game for people into parodies, slapstick humor, and the concept of role-playing. And, if you're a fan of the previous Monkey Island games, and you haven't gotten this game yet, you should act fast!

Everything you'd ever want in a computer game

Wow. As I look back, I can't believe that until recently, I hadn't played Monkey Island. How could I have survived?

Well, survival is aside the point here. Curse of Monkey Island is the third game in the legendary Monkey Island series, thought by many (myself included) to be the best adventure games ever. I've got to hand it to LucasArts - they've done it again.

The plot once more follows the adventures of pirate wannabe Guybrush Threepwood and his girlfriend, Elaine Marley (who just happens to be the governor of the entire Tri-Island area). LeChuck returns to claim Elaine for himself, but Guybrush amazingly manages to blow up his ship and give Elaine an engagement ring. However, this ring just happens to be cursed with a voodoo curse which turns the wearer into solid gold. Tough luck? Very. After Elaine is transfigured, pirates led by Captain LeChimp (yes, LeChimp) steal Elaine so that Guybrush must rescue her.

Monkey Island 3 features, once more, that trademark Monkey Island humor. The interface is much cleaner and easier to use and the visuals are excellent. The one complaint that I have is the amount of dialogue included this time around; however, the hilarity of most of this humor more than makes up for it.

Do you hate humor, brilliance, quality, and fun? If so, then don't bother buying this game. However, if you don't, be prepared for a wild ride.

Monkey3 would rank as one of my favorite games. Perfect voice casting for all characters, but especially for Guybrush and LeChuck. I think that this Monkey game so far is the second best with Monkey 2:LeChuck's revenge, being the best.

The main letdown of this game is it's too short: there's not as much area to explore as LeChuck's Revenge. Puzzles were nicely challenging, but could have been more so. I know someone who completed this game in about a week! (mega-mode, and no, he didn't look up walkthroughs)

That's another thing, if you get this game, try to do it yourself! You'll appreciate it much more! These games are supposed to take forever to beat, 'cause you can't really play them over!

All in all though, I REALLY recommend this game! There are a few inside jokes you may not catch if you haven't played the other 2. If you like this one, definitely get the first two if you can find them!

If you look at all the success that Escape From Monkey Island is getting these days, while a fantastic game in its own right, it is much due to the awesome style and character of the earlier Monkey Island games (especially this one). Curse of Monkey Island has it all: Great cartoon-style art, Incredible voice acting, great atmosphere, and most importantly the most hilarious storyline and dialogue in any game ever. Although any true adventure game fan already owns it, to everyone else, I couldn't reccomend it more.
