Trouble with Scrabble

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 2 / 2

This game worked for only a short while then would just give me a black screen and lock up my computer. The only way I could resolve this was to kill the power to the computer. I use Windows ME. I do not recommend.

disappointed in this game's performance

I bought this game to replace the Scrabble 2.0 because it was purported to be windows xp compatible. Unfortunately, it does the same thing the old game did, which is go to a black screen during play, which was only resolved by "painting" the game back into view with the mouse. I searched for remedies to this major inconvienence, to no avail. It's a good thing I didn't waste a whole lot of cash on my purchase. I can't recommend this game to anyone. It's unfortunate, because it is a very nice game otherwise.

Way old, out of date version

This version is so old, the visuals are all grainy, and hard to see. The game is not at all pleasant to play, compared to the new versions, and you have to keep the CD in the drive all the time to play it, even after you install the game. I think it is sucking up a massive amount of juice to play it, too. (The reason I got rid of Scrabout).

This does NOT come with a jewel case - just a paper sleeve, and there's no paperwork or support for the game, either. The only info provided is on the disk, and that support number is disconnected. Seller claims to have no knowledge of computer games (Despite being primarily a seller of computer games), and just refers you to the disconnected support number.

It was cheap, so I'm just eating this one, but I won't be buying anything from this bunch again. Spare yourself some agony, and download a trial software, test it, and if you like it, spend the extra $10. and get the newest version.

I have no idea how much fun this game is as it never would load. We have all of the PC attributes required, but all we ever received was a blank screen.

Doesn't work, no customer support

It does not work with Windows XP. The company knows this, but the company no longer manufactures this game, so they wouldn't help me. I am stuck with a game that causes my computer to crash.

Does not work with Zone Alarm antivirus

When starting this game with Zone Alarm activated the screen goes black. Even with all permissions given the same problem occurs. Infogrames should create a patch to take care of this.

Actually, this game DOES work, even with XP

Like so many of you, I ended up with a black screen and no way to escape other than shutting down manually. I went to Atari's website and mostly followed their instruction. I clicked on "Stop all Internet Activity" on my Zone alarm and have been able to play the game ever since. It's not quite a good as the original one I've had since '94 (imho) but it's still fun. I don't hesitate recommending it.

If you have Scrabble 2, then you alrady have this game

This is a great Scrabble game but I was disappointed to find that this game is virtually the same as Scrabble 2 which has been out for a good while now. The graphics are the same and the skill levels of the computer player Maven are the same too. The optional music that plays during the game has been changed but I find it a distraction and turn that option off. It may have a new mini-game or two (mini-games are little exercises like finding all the 2 letter words that can be made from 7 randomly selected tiles) but they're more for practice than for fun.

As far as I can tell the best thing about this game over Scrabble 2 is that it includes a free copy of Boggle, if that interests you. It also says it works with Windows XP. I don't know if Scrabble 2 would or not.

If you have Windows XP, really like Boggle, or don't already have Scrabble 2, then this is a great game. If you already have Scrabble 2 then you won't find much new here.

Disable firewall to play

I too got only a black screen, and couldn't find help until I read a review stating that you have to disable the firewall in order to play - once you do that, it works just fine. I am adicted to this game, and love to beat the computer Mavin.
