Despite what other reviewers have said, this game would not play on my XP based computer. As soon as the program tries to load, the screen turns blank and escape is not an option. This is the second time I've purchased a Scrabble game that would not play with XP, and sadly, I will not buy another copy.
Usefulness of Game Marred by Security Choices

This would be a really nifty game to take on the road, except for one very serious problem: it cannot be run without the CD. (This appears to be a deliberate choice of the manufacturer. The main game seems to install entirely on the hard drive, and, after one quick check to ensure the CD is in place, appears never to reference the CD again.) In the present environment, the manufacturer cannot be faulted, perhaps, for taking such an inelegant and Procrustean measure to prevent illegal distribution. I believe, however, that, having made that choice, the manufacturer is remiss in failing to spell out clearly on the box and in all advertsing that this product is a CD-ROM game.

I love Scrabble and this CD-ROM is in many ways more fun than playing with the family--the computer player never stomps off in a huff when it loses! You can choose a computer player from 6 different skill levels--this allows you to win constantly or really challenge yourself. My only gripe is that the CD-Rom "takes over" my computer--it doesn't allow users to minimize the screen to access the Internet or other programs on their computer while Scrabble Complete is open.

The only way that I was able to escape the "black screen of death" on my XP system was to disable the McAfee firewall. I'm not interested in playing online, so turning off the firewall isn't a security risk for me. Whenever I go online, I turn it back on.
This version (Scrabble Complete) works better than the red box version with XP. I was never able to get that one to work and (fortunately) was able to get Wal-Mart to take it back. They didn't know XP from INXS, but eventually by going up the chain of command, they refunded my money. I won't buy software there again because of the hassle. Anyway, Scrabble Complete works for me as long as my firewall is disabled.
Fun game but lacking in the dictionary

This game was a decent buy considering the price, but it seemed to be lacking in the dictionary. The music is decent and the players are pretty good when you turn up the difficulty. It has the ability to tell you which letters are still left to play and will tell you what score you might get for the word you're putting down on the board. However, the game's internal dictionary seems to be either bugged or incomplete. I was playing against 3 computers and the game challenged the word ZONE. I lost a triple word score with the word and I couldn't do anything. Perhaps a bug in the game? Other than this issue, it seems to be worth the money. I didn't have any problems playing the game with Windows XP, Service Pack 2.
Great Game, unfortunately needs a tweak

This is my favorite of all the Scrabble games released for PC. Unfortunately online play isn't supported at MSN Zone anymore. Running it on Windows XP unfortunately requires a little tweaking. Once installed, right click on the icon it creates and select properties. From the Compatibility tab, select Disable Visual Themes and Turn off advanced text services for this program.
The mini games are great for learning. If not for the outdated dictionary and the undocumented tweak this game gets 5 stars from me. Graphics are beautiful and the game actually tries to teach you how to play effectively. This is a simple repackaging of Scrabble 2 or Scrabble "Red".
A good old fashioned game to keep the synapses firing.

I bought this Scrabble Complete game to replace the Atari version of Scrabble. When I bought a new computer, I was annoyed to find that the Atari version would not install because it had already been installed on another computer. That seemed like a rip off to me. I don't know if the Scrabble complete game will allow installation on multiple computers or not. My biggest complaint with either version is that you can't minimize the program while its running. If you need to do something else with your computer in the middle of a game, you have to shut down the program. The Scrabble complete program is nearly identical to the Atari version but it lacks an animation that keeps the game from going to screensaver when you get up to answer the phone or use the bathroom. The animation at start up is not as fancy either but the opening animation is unimportant, just a waste of time while you wait for it to load before you can turn it off. I liked the Atari version better than the Infogrames version but not by much. Both versions are a little bit better than the free Scrabout program and both are a little better than the limited time trial version that comes with your new Hewlitt Packard computer.

I purchase the game, and it did not work on my laptop or desk top, both have xp. So if you have xp, do not bother.

I would love the game if my screen didn't keep going black in the middle of a game. You must use your mouse to "scratch" off the black to resume. By this time, I have lost the momentum and after a few of these happenings, I have just given up and don't even finish the game. The music is better than all those laughing clowns in Scrabble 2.
Don't bother

After buying Scrabble 1 with that ... annoying 256-color bug which also doesn't work on NT/2000/XP, I thought I'd give it another try with Scrabble Complete. I now have 2 copies of Boggle (which is a hard drive disk hog).
... Anyhow, I didn't find this game fun at all and promptly uninstalled it.
First off, I couldn't even get the game to play. I just got a black screen. I then found out (on my own) that if I disabled ZoneAlarm, then suddenly it would work. What the hey? Just to play the game, I have to disable my firewall? That's makes absolutely no sense.
I haven't seen nor played Scrabble 2, but after purchasing 1 and 3, it's pointless for me to search for version 2. I didn't like the controls and quickly grew bored. I'll stick to yahoo's literati or some other equivalent.
