reinforcing other reviewers - this thing JUST DON'T work on XP. i should have known when the ONLY doc tht comes with it is a mimeo'd piece of paper that blames everyone else, including the user, if their product fails to install! it even tries to tell me my DVD reader is broken, when every other DVD & CD plays or installs fine.
Problems with running on XP

I've had lots of problems running this on my XPLaptop. Support provided little help and offered no idea of when a patch for XP problems would be provided, if ever. You can't load the software on your PC, forcing you to use the CD. The product isn't very user friendly. Too bad!

The problem with Scrabble Complete is that, when you get to a certain point, it's more difficult to win, in a way that is unreal. You're faced with 7 vowels, while your opponent may get a series of 7 letter words-not real! My advice is to do what I did: send your Scrabble Complete to Atari and tell them to perfect a program based on a real game. I'm disgusted that I found I had bought the first Atari Scrabble, with a new name.
DONT BUY IT!!
bummer!

Scrabble Complete does everything right except this; When it calculates your overall score it subtracts when you win several games in a row, instead of adding. The more you win the lower you score. Atari Technitions, in my opinion, know about this and give you the run around when you ask for their help. Atari appears to have created a faulty product and refuses to deal honorably with the public. You know, childen, I'm talking about,SKUNKS!.

I used to have this game with my old computer, and loved it. This version does not work with Windows XP.
I wish I could return it, but of course I had to open it to find out that it's incompatable with my operating system.
:(

This is an awesome game and I highly recommend it! My husband and I both have Windows XP on our laptops and have been using this game for over a year with NO system issues at all. We play against each other over our network sitting on the couch - much easier than the board game, though we do still take that out on occasion. Yes, it's a little annoying to have to load the CD each time you play, but in comparison, it's still way easier than getting the board and tiles out each time, and then also knocking the tiles on the floor way too often. If I had paid a lot more for this Scrabble CD then yes I would be upset to have to load the CD each time, but not for $10!... It's well worth it!! Also, though the game does load in full screen view you CAN still get to your other windows/programs during a game and without closing the game out.. just hold the ALT and TAB keys simultaneously and you will be able to select and go to your other programs that are open.

I noticed that a lot of people here were having the same problem I'd had with this game, in that they couldn't get it to run.
I did a quick search online, and came up with the following in a forum (please note that this is NOT my post, I did not come up with it - but I did try it, and it did work for me!):
"I have this game with Windows XP Home Service Pack 2. And yes, I had many of the same errors people on this board had.
When I played a new game and made a word and clicked Play OR immediately clicked Pass, the screen would go to black and windows wanted me to send an error report.
I searched this forum and found that many of you had the same problem and some solutions were offered, but nothing seemed to work. I read that calls to tech support were futile and was ascared to call.
I am here to tell you I spent 5 minutes on the phone with tech support and the issue was fixed. The service number had menus which would point you to the exact error I was getting, "screen turning black when you click Play" or something to that effect.
All I did was right click on the shortcut to the game [ on the desktop or in the start menu ]. Click on the compatibility tab and had to UNCHECK the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" box. Then I had to CHECK the "Disable visual themes" box and CHECK the "Turn off advanced test services for this program box"
After that the game worked like a charm. I hope this offers some aid to anyone who had these same problems."

Scrabble has been one of the most educational and challenging board games ever made. Nonetheless, it just keeps trying to become a little more challenging every single time. Although I was never good at it, until the game show with Chuck Woolery came along in the 1980's. Still, it is just as challenging as ever. Still, it makes it quite an escape with a computer challenging you in the mix. Still, I always have trouble trying to keep score in the game, but here, the computer takes the gamble.
The game also comes with Boggle, another game that has been a classic in households for a long time. I haven't experienced a game that challenging, especially when it comes to the different styles of Boggle, including the classic, In Your Face Boggle, and and Breakaway Boggle. It is very interesting for somebody that doesn't know how to play a game like that. For newcomers it is fine, but advanced players might get a little bit bored with it already.
Hopefully, many more board games like this will come on CD-ROM enjoyment soon. It is just plan sad that it hasn't happened yet. Still, many people would rather get the board game in full bloom, as a board game. But I only recommend Scrabble Complete, if you don't fall asleep to it.
