Totally worth the price!

This game is really a handful of mini games that serve as a primer on the use of the wii remote. They lack the depth and replay factor of the sports title that comes with the wii. They are more involved, however, than the mini games of wario ware. They are right in the middle.

Many reviews seem to think this game is going to serve as a sequel to wii sports. It's nothing like that game, and I think people who are expecting that level of complexity and fun are in for a rude awakening. For example, don't think the table tenis game will be as good as the tenis sports title because it isn't and doesn't try to be. It's a mini game. The laser pong is fun, though, and the duck hunt game is a great blast from the past, as is combat.

Of course the big issue is the extra remote. You get the remote and game together for $50. Is the wiiplay game worth $10? Absolutely! (I mean, it has far more playability than the Xbox 360 burger king games for a similar price point, plus without all the corporate propaganda!)

For all the naysayers talking bad about this game, I think they miss the point of it. This is a great $10 title. If it were packaged at that price as a stand alone without the remote, I'd buy it (and any similar sequels they'd release). At my house, we play the sports title as a party game on the weekends, and this game will serve the same purpose. You and your friends will have fun with 2 person multi here (I know, no 4 player, but come on, ten bucks remember?), or even just passing the remote around and trying some more truly innovative wii gaming here--just wait until you play the cow race mini game with your friends gathere around!

Bottom line is, remotes are harder to come by than Wii's during this initial wii release. If you can get your hands on this, you're silly not to get your hands on the remote. This is a game you should get right now. Don't wait. First, for that remote, and second, in a few months, the novelty of the wii remote will be getting stale, and there will be better games that make use this awesome technology. If you get the game now, though, it'll be great fun while the system is still fresh.

Great Fun!

This game is a lot of fun, it allows 2 players to become very competitive with racing, shooting, table tennis, and much more! 1 player setting is a lot of fun as well as you can play to earn medals and practice to become better for the 2 player setting.

Great Purchase If Only For the Remote

Ever since the release of the Nintendo Wii and the rise in popularity of Wii Sports, Nintendo fans and casual gamers alike have been searching for the perfect follow-up in which to import their Mii's and have some more party game fun. Unfortunately, despite the hype surrounding this title, this isn't the game you're looking for.

Wii Play is essentially a collection of nine mildly entertaining minigames for up to two players to play. This fact alone is disappointing in itself, because what made Wii Sports such a popular title is that it had games that supported up to four players. At any rate, here are the games and how they stack up:

Shooting: This game was obviously inspired by Duckhunt, as they actually had similar looking ducks fly around in the background as you're trying to hit targets. In fact, all they needed was that silly laughing dog at the beginning and they would've had a nice nostalgia trip for the older gamers. Other than that, this was a rather entertaining diversion made more so if you have a second person playing as well.

Find Mii: Essentially a Wii version of Where's Waldo which can be played with two players. Kinda neat at first to see all your created Miis running around waiting to get spotted, but gets old fast. Definately not one of the better games.

Pose Mii: I absolutely hated this one. Your cursor becomes your Mii as bubbles fall from the sky with various poses on them. It's your job to get your Mii in the right pose and then place them into the bubble. More irritation than fun, this is easily the worst game in the entire package.

Ping Pong: Don't expect this to be another Wii Tennis, because this is much more simplistic. You don't have to swing your paddle at all, you just have to make sure it's in front of the ball when it starts heading your way. This game could have used a lot more depth, but is still very enjoyable to play with two players.

Laser Hockey: The physics on this game are really crazy, but I think that's where a lot of the enjoyment of it comes in. You will have a load of fun playing with a friend as you will most likely spend the duration of most games scoring points on yourselves. From my experience, you're probably much better off not touching the puck as it heads towards your goal, but then, I'm sure there are those out there with exceptional control over this game's paddle.

Billiards: Much to my disappointment, this is not your standard game of pool. Actually, it's just a game of 9 Ball which you have the option of playing with another player. It's cool trying to pretend your Wii remote is a pool cue for a little while, but when you realize how limited this particular game really is, the magic wears off fast.

Fishing: This one is merely okay and is somewhat enjoyable with another player. You use your Wii remote as a fishing rod and slowly place your hook in the water. On the top is a desired type of fish that the game wants you to go for and you just wait on a fish to grab your line. Once it does, you jerk your arm back to catch the fish, and depending on the type, you will earn points. This continues for a few minutes and whomever has the most points when the time runs out is the winner.

Cow Race: Not as cool as it sounds. Each player hops on the back of a poorly controlled cow and races towards the finish line, trying to hit all the scarecrows they can. The winner is not determined by who finishes the race first, but rather who hit the most scarecrows on the way through. It's a humorous game to start with, but once you realized how poorly cows are at racing, the charm wears off quickly.

Tanks: Easily the best game in this entire package. My friends and I have plugged hours upon hours into this game because of its simple concept and addicting gameplay. This game gives you the option of using the Wii remote/nunchuk combination, which in my opinion works the best. Each player controls a tank placed in a tiny obstacle course littered with destructible walls and other enemy tanks. You can fire a barrage of bullets, or lay mines, but you must destroy the enemy tanks by any means necessary. You can even bounce bullets off of the walls and use the ricochet to beat your opponents. The single player mode gives you lives, but in two player mode, if both players perish, it's an automatic game over. It's a mindlessly addictive experience that can only be described by trying it out yourself.

Although there aren't that many great games in this package, it is still a great deal and worth picking up. It comes with a Wii remote, which in itself is $40. And considering that this entire purchase is only $50, it doesn't take a math expert to realize what a great bargain this is. If you see yourself needing an extra remote in the near future, this is definately a worthy purchase.

I fully support the idea of this game. In actual gameplay it is kind of lame.
Cow racing & billiards are lots of fun. Pose your Mii and fishing are a waste of space. Ping-pong is confusingly difficult to work. Tanks!, find you mii, laser hockey, and shooting gallery are ok.
So the justification is a 40$ controller + game = worthwhile. I disagree. Even the games that I like are so very, very shallow that they only have multiplayer value. I loved the cow racing, but the one course, for the same length of time gets real old. Billiards is fun, so why is it only 9 ball and no other kinds of billiards? What about even a slightly different set of rules for any of these games, change the length of time for example? Nope - not possible.
Wii Sports has 3 great minigames and one stinker. Play easily has more bad than good. A great minigame? Maybe, but at least a few times a week I'll be playing Wii Sports, not this. Unfortunately the lack of depth shows after a short while.
This had a lot of potential, but the games are skeletons of what should have been. If they released a more fleshed out version of this it would be worthwhile. Now its value is in a "free" controller.

Oh and also only two players? WTF? Only laser hockey & ping-pong need to be two players, the rest could easily be 4 players at once.

The controller is great! The game... well... yeah.

I love my Nintendo Wii. I wrote a review about it right after I got it. It's a wonderfully fun little machine! Now that I've got it online, I've downloaded all sorts of stuff, voted in polls and had a generally grand time! What I lacked was a second controller.

Enter "Wii Play".

Don't buy this game for the game. The game is crap. "Wii Sports" is better and more entertaining and you get that for free. But to make "Wii Sports" even more fun, you need a second player. For that, a second controller is vital. Since you need one anyhow, buy this bundle.

"Wii Play" isn't completely bad. The cow racing, laser hockey, shooting and pool games are basically fun and provide some dandy two-player action. The others are forgettable.

So in short: don't by this game for the game. Certainly don't buy the seprate version of the game. But since you need another controller, buy this bundle. Get the controller. Spend $[...] on a game you might play for a couple hours.

Enjoy!

Really, think about it....

The whole reason you would buy this game is if you were in need of an extra Remote. I mean it's the remote plus a disc with 9 games on it for $50 vs. a remote alone for $40. Of course the games aren't the most amazing thing in the world. Wii Sports, the game you get with the Wii is a much better collection, but this is just something different to add to that.
Wii Sports=5 Stars, Wii Play (the Game)=3 Stars, Wii Play with Remote=5 Stars

That being said, I don't expect to spend nearly as much time with these games as I will with Sports, but the bundle is so worth the buy assuming you'll need another remote and can never have too many fun games that you can just pop in and waste your afternoon with.

For What its worth.

I bought this for my husband for valentines. I am fond of video games. But do not play as much as he does. I am not very good at them and often get frustrated with long in deapth games. The Wii is great in this aspect. We can play Wii Sports and Wii Play together. I enjoy the time we spend doing this. Also it is great when we have people of all ages over. Its a good party game, And the games are short enough that people can take turns all around. This is not nearly as good as Sports, but it is what it is. Lots of fun, for those of us who like to play and be social, or who are not big gamers. Also very good for younger children.

Wii Remote + Shareware Quality Game = Overpiced Wii Remote

I highly advise against buying this. Allow me to expalin...

Let's lay out the facts: A Wii Remote Controller on its own is $39.99. This Wii Remote + Wii Play game is $49.99. In essence, you are paying $39.99 for the Wii Remote and the remaining $10 for the game packed in.

Since you could just buy the remote separately what you really need to know is: "If I want another Wii Remote, should I pay an extra $10 for the Wii Play game?"

The answer is NO.

The Wii Play game is a collection of mini games in the vein of Wii Sports. The catch is that this time the games have far, far less appeal.

While we have logged countless hours on truly fun games like Wii Sports, Rayman Raving Rabbids, and Mario Party 8, it took my wife and I only about 20 minutes to play through the entire Wii Play collection and not a single mini-game left us wanting to play it again. In fact, each game on Wii Play reminded me of cheesy freeware games you can download or play online at "cure for boredom" sites.

If, after reading this, you are still just dying to try it, I say: Borrow it from a friend. No friends have it? Ask yourself why. Then, if you STILL want to play it, go rent it. Spend $5 on a rental and discover for yourself that Wii Play has no "Rii" Play value.

Meh...

I would have to agree with most of the reviews here.
Here's the bottom line.
If this was a standalone title without the WiiMote and was in the bargain bin for $10, I would have probably given it a shot anyway.
At that price, I guess you're getting what you pay for.
The ping pong game had alot of promise, but they spoiled it by not expanding the options. I mean, who cares about returning shots until you miss? That's a game?
Billiards is alot of fun at first, but again, NO variety!
One of the reasons Wii Sports is so much fun has to do with variety. If you get sick of the regular games, you have Training Mode, etc.
Wii Play could have benefited from having more options and depth.
With MP 8 coming out sometime this year, I needed another WiiMote anyway, so it's not a total loss.

Not worth it unless you NEED another controller

This game is fun for about 1 hour. By then you've played all the games 3 times. Tank, pool, and Hockey are the only games with any replay value. The pool controls are very annoying.
For me it was worth it, because I needed another controller. I'm just glad I had that excuse, because this title is not worth the price without it.
