Its... ok

I thought the game was ok, however, i don't find it half as interesting as zelda in zelda each board was a different environment with new wepon or tool usful to the game but in dark cloud ever board set up exactly the same way and way to long the georama thing was cool however but thats all you get in the dungeons nothing really interesting a new sword once in a while or some item required to move on but not usually something that makes it "exciting" so if you like to repeat the same things over and over again this game is good didn't really keep my attention though

Dark Cloud was the first game I bought for PS2, and let me tell you, it's one you don't want to miss, with beautiful graphics and very addictive gameplay it's a keeper. Despite what some people say about it being repetitive I never really got bored because of the cool weapon system and Georama feature. Sure, it looks and plays alot like Zelda but that doesn't mean it stinks. You'll most likely be searching for other titles this holiday season but if all else fails buy Dark Cloud, but be warned it will take much of your time away, not that that's a bad thing. At last I can only hope for a sequel.

This Game is AWESOME!!! Buy it.

This game, on my personal opinion, is awesome. It is really fun with the long, challenging dungeons, and just plain old building places with the altlamilla you find. The sword slashing and duels are really fun, and the fishing really propels the game to new heights. This is a must buy. Go now and get it.

I'd give it five stars but...

This is an awsome game by far it has: The battle system of "The legend of Zelda" series, the georama abilities of "sim city",the weapon system of "Diablo" and "Diablo 2",and a fun factor of the whole lot of em combined not to mention some decent graphics for an early ps2 game.So why you may ask does it recieve only 4 stars the awnser is simple the game is repetitive u do the same thing in a diffrent enviroment with diffrent enemies through whole game.I still really advise u to get this game though because it is a worth while experience.

A darkly clouded RPG

When I brought this game I must be honest I was looking for more of a Zelda sort of game than a Final Fantasy but to my suprise Dark Cloud did'nt try to be either instead taking ideas from both while ideas of its own to new levels.

Graphics
This is where the game shines in my opinion the graphics are very nicely polished and can at times look exceptional for example buildings and normal village people stand out from a far and look very well presentated. Backgrounds also look very nice if not abit plain, enermies are also very clearly presentated but the best thing about about this game when it comes to graphics is the fantastic changing of the day at night the moon sparkles and in the day the sun can be blinding when you look up.

Gameplay
This is where Dark Cloud loses marks biscally the point is traveling from dungion to dungion to collect certain items and pieces of alanta (village parts)and the game invloves u traveling back and forth to put the village back to its orginal form skipping from dungion to dungion to get different pieces after a while gets very repeatitive and also battles get like that aswell comes the RPG factors of the game buying weapons, food water yes water you have to keep yourself wet or otherwise you will die. The most rewarding part of the game is rebuilding trhe village this can be fantastic and is great fun.

Plot
The plot of the game is that a man has revived a an ancient genie and the genie has gone on destroying villages this is where a young boy named toan comes in he has been given the ability to collect certains parts of the village by going through dungions and fighting monsters along the way he will meet people who want to help him. This is where again the story fails to live up to the giants of the RPG world the sub characters who help you play no real part in the story image a FF7 game with all those characters and the only person you saw and play with was cloud thats what Dark Cloud is like the sub charcters never really get invloved with the plot apart from when they are introduced plus to be honest you don't really care about the sub characters either (unlike a FF game).

Music
Nothing to really shout about to be honest the games music is average the music never really touches you and some music seems outta place in some scenes.

Overall
Dark Cloud is a great in the middle game if you like RPGS and action adventure this game is a great mix of both but the game does'nt really break any benchmarks on either its no FF beater or no Zelda beater but a good alternative.

Pros
*Great graphics
*Great building villages idea
*Great character design

Cons
*repeatitive movement between village and dungions
*annoying water top-ups needed
*The sub characters don't evolve

Great Game But Difficult And Lengthly Weapon Building

I really loved this game. I especially loved building towns and then being able to walk through them. However, I was unable to get the weapon building. I broke my swords then started over. I finally was able to build up my swords and rings, but was unable to get the rings and swords that I was supposed to get. This is obviously my problem as no one else seemed to have this problem. Great graphics, lots of fun. Worth the price.

OK, so I bought this game on a whim, my collection was getting boring. I put the game in, played for a little while and thought the game was alright. I can't tell you too much of the story, but the object of the game is to go into these dungons, fight monsters, get the items in the sphere things, leave the dungon and rebuild the town that you are in. The first town and dungon is pretty fun. You are able to rebuild the town anyway you'd like. However, if you listen to the townspeople when ever you start to rebuild, they will give you hints on where to put things. OK, so I finished the first town and went on to the second. That's were it became repetitios. Same old thing, just in a different town. Go into dungon, fight monsters, get items to rebuild town... BLAH, BLAH, BLAH.

What makes it even worse is that when you are in the dungon, you have to keep an eye on your water supply. When you run out of water, you start to lose health. And, your weapons only have a few attacks before breaking. Keep an eye on your weapon also, when it's about to break, you have to use a Weapon Recovery to fix it. If you're too late and it breaks, your SOL.

The characters in the game are rather annoying. Especially the main guy, whom you can name whatever you'd like. He doesn't talk which I don't like. And has anyone else noticed he looks just like the main character from Dragon Quest VIII? I know the two games are from the same company, Level 5 I believe, but come on, show some originality.

Anyway, this is a game that kids will really enjoy. There is nothing complicated to it, just really repetitious.

Oh, one thing I forgot to mention. When you are in the dungons and you decide to leave with out killings all the monsters, you'll lose half your money. Same thing happens when you die in the dungon. That really is lame.

OK

Dark Cloud is fun, but it is a little more challenging than Dark Cloud 2. If you are a serious RPG fan and love challenges then this game is right up your lane! But don't expect first person shoot ups and high tech graphics. This is an intellectual game with challenging puzzles and teamwork.

Dark Cloud is a great game

This game has everything you want from a retro game. Customization of weapons and that RPG element that is so fun in an action game. Long story short: buy this greatest hits game.

Really though, you guys HAVE to get off the zelda topic! i am so sick of you all saying "rip off of zelda" and "i liked zelda better" if i wanted to hear about this stupid zelda game, i would search for reviews on that! i wanted to hear about dark cloud! now, on to the game. I did enjoy the game, though i did get sick of the dungeon portion of it. i found the ice queen really hard (mostly because i suck at these games) but i liked the fact you had to repair weapons and keep hydrated, though it became annoying after a while. i liked the rebuilding cities and getting allies. so, now i want to try out numba two!
