Dark Cloud is a very interesting game with neat graphics and great replay-ability. It only has a few flaws, the greatest of which is Goro. The majority of the characters in the game are well-rounded, which is a good thing because the game forces you use to use all of your allies at some point. With Toan, Xiao, and Ruby, you could hardly term this forcing you at all, but Goro is a another story all together. He is slow-moving, both in terms of running and in terms of attacking, and he has a long recovery time, especially in comparison to little-miss-rapid-fire Xiao. Basically I would give this game 5 stars if this one character didn't exist. Other than my issues with Goro, I really don't like the fact that your inventory space is so limited in this game. But it is challenging and fun, and the Georama parts provide a nice break from the first-person fighting action of it all. Overall, this game is worth the [price] you shell out for it, and it will keep you busy until you either get addicted to Ephemeral Fantasia or Final Fantasy X comes out.
Great for what it tries to be

This is not Final Fantasy X, but it is better than Zelda for the N64, which it was designed to compete with. This game is cute, and has a lot of neat features I didn't expect. The creation of the towns is fun, and the game is cute. I think this would be great for 10 year olds, but it still appeals to me. Some things are very unique, including the weapon upgrading system and weapons breaking if you don't repair them (which has bothered me quite a bit). I don't mind the "dialog" and if you like dungeons you'll be VERY, VERY happy. VERY.
A Great Game For all People who like dark ages of fantasy an

This game is great where you are a young boy named Toan who's world was destroyed by a dark genie and he must gain allies to help him rebuild his world with the help of his atlamillia which is a blue crystal on his left hand which once 400 years ago helped imprison the dark genie.

This game is very repetitive, and in the beginning not all that much fun. It has a great weapon evolution system, although it involves a lot of the boring fishing game. However Dark Cloud lacks an engaging storyline. Try FFX or perhaps Okage:Shadow King. The battle system is just so-so, and the dungeons are extremely repetitive. I know it sounds like I hate this game, but I did have fun with it. Just get Final Fantasy X, Okage:Shadow King, and Metal Gear Solid 2 first.
A truly an amazing dungeon rpg!

Whant an rpg that will keep you playing until the end? Want a game that is ... fun? Well this is probaly the game for you! This game is amazing and will keep you intersted until the end because of the well devoloped characters and villages and cities. Don't look at the ratings because this game is really intersting. In terms of graphis this game has it all. Ok the thrist meter is kind of annoying at times in the begining, but dont you worry be the time you are in the third town you will max it out. The whp weapon hit points is annoying wntil you get many repair and auto repair powders. The bosses in this game are a pretty good challenge. The plot is pretty good. The geroma feature is really cool because you get to built and put things where you feel it looks the best. Allthout you need stratgy to beat some bosses which can take a few turns you will be able to find the weakness sonner or later. This is the first game for my ps2 and I think I picked a really good game. Try this game and mabe you will like it just like I did! Don't miss this cool rpg because it is a well worthy game for you!
Unimpressive. Same thing done better elsewhere.

This game is a retread of Chocobo Dungeon, released two or three years ago by Square, and released as a DOS game about a decade ago.
The dungeons have a set number of floors. The last floor contains the boss. Every floor between the beginning and the boss has things you can find:
Weapons for your main character Toan or the others he meets along his way -- which have properties he can adjust, or can sell theweapon altogether.
Items: healing items, battle items, items to protect against effects.
Cash: so Toan can shop when he's aboveground.
The dungeons randomize every time you leave and return, so you can "level" your characters inasmuch as the game permits [which isn't much. You add things to the weapons to make them more powerful, in the main].
The difference between the previous games Dark Cloud apes ends there. Once on the surface again, Toan has to reassemble each village at a time.
The closer you get to putting the village back exactly the way all the villagers want it, the more likely you are to get a reward of some kind -- a special attack for a character, or a useful weapon.
The game is not intuitive in every instance, and the graphics are nowhere near exceptional. The opening scene is cute, but that's about it.
It's a good game for a young player or a rank beginner, but the plot is too thin for anyone used to the plot-driven stuff like Final Fantasy, Summoner, or Metal Gear Solid.
Some fun to be had, but gets old fast

One general word of advice. Whenever you see a game that says "randomly generated dungeons".........run. A few high profile failures have tried this, (Anarchy Online anyone?). The problem with random dungeons is just that........the whole game seems random. There is no sense of fighting thru the underlings, to get to the "boss". Yes there is a boss at the end of every dungeon, but there is no progression that's immersive.
The graphics are also very "cutesy". This is a good game for children under 12 or so, would be a nice first "RPG" for someone, but for serious gamers it becomes very boring very quickly.
By far the most "fun" to be had in this game is goofing around arranging the towns you have to put back together. Unfortunately, most of your time is spent in random dungeons, fighting random mobs, and it all begins to look the same VERY quickly.
Rental only
Well it's nice but just not enough

The game starts out allright, but overtime it becomes just... the same. The Dungeons make 90% of the gamplay, 6 dungeaons 20 floors each, all with the same monsters, events and stuff. Its tediuos and addictive (in a bad way) to upgrade weapons, monsters are simply silly, and the bosses are the easiest ever (except La Saia), the game could be nice, but its just zelda with annoying monsters and inane plot in general.
Best game of the seson.
