Square/Electronic Arts has taken quite a big risk in
changing almost everything we know about its popular
Secret/Legend of Mana series. first off, I'd like to say
I love this game myself. It's not perfect, but certain players
will undoubtedly find much more in this game than others.
To me, this game was more of an expericne than a game.
Take the graphics for example. They're beautifully hand drawm
and coupled with with very nice battle effects. The music,
in my opinion, is some of the best I've ever heard in a video game. Much of it is orchestrated and it sounds amazing, if not slightly repetive. (The Lumina theme has to be the greatest Ive heard in a game before.)
However, there are problems. The game seems to lack a central plot and is replaces by many smaller plots. Whether this interests you or not if up to the players. Also, the battle system can get very repetive and annoying without the player constantly changing weapons and abilities. The multiplayer option is nice, but still doesn't add much to the game.
This game is great for the right person... If you're looking for a deep and complex game made up of several different plots, you will enjoy. If not- then I suggest you play the earlier Mana games.
when i first saw this...

i was working at blockbuster video.. and it happened to catch my eye.. brought it home and found that i couldnt do too much.. so about 2 weeks later i bought it with the book.. and it has been fun ever since.. like another reviewer said there are three story lines.. but there are many more.. you have niccolo's quests.. the jumi quests.. gilbert's quests.. the list goes on.. and if you want a wonderfully drawn and colored game.. the "create your world" line on the case.. it lives up to.. if you want a game you can get lost in for a few hours < or a few days, took me about a month to complete.. but more fun the second time> this is the one.. plus check out threads of fate, chrono cross, vagrant story, parasite eve 1 & 2, and threads of fate.. a wonderful little collection for year round gaming,, i wasnt dissapointed.. after i played it i recommended the square summer series to freinds and they fell in love.. < now if i can only get my cds back.. >
Very Interesting and quite different than your "typical" RPG

I have been quite impressed by this game. It's not the typical RPG, very non-linear in which quests you do, but the quests are a little simple. The fighting style is a bit street fighter like, but it was still kind of neat. It's nice to be able to make your own weapons, spells and raise your own pets and fruits. Somethings that could have been changed, but well, it didn't really knock any of the fun out of this game. I like it.
!Fun! but gets boring after awhile, okay graphic's

It does get boring pretty fast and can get annoying in some missions, but you can get yourself a custom type of golem after awhile of playing or you can get a monster at the monster farm, theres also a monster that looks like a chocobo [for all the Final Fantasy people you should know what they are. ],but this is well into the game about in the middle but it is worth it the golems are probably a bigger help than the monsters though. there are about 70 missions that take awhile to complete, the minimum time:15 m.n., maximum time:2 and a half hours or 3 hours. Not to hard but there are very confusing missions sometimes, but you get to pick which missions to do before and after another one. In one mission Leirs tower [I think] It is very confusing and long, because you have to take certain passegways to get to the next floor and sometime you have to fall then take an elevator to get to where your supposed to go. Fun but gets boring !way! too fast! 3 out of 5 stars.
See ya C.C.

Legend of Mana is probably the best game I've played in my life.
I play the first if the mana sequel called Secret of Mana on Super Nintendo. I really enjoyed the way the colors blend into the real time system. I also enjoyed the design of the buildings . One day I hope to be part of the Squaresoft company. I have already deicated my life to making video games.I would like to tell anybody whoi wants to read this that Legend of Mana is a game to remember.
Great RPG

This game is great!! I highly recommend that you get it. It is fairly short though. Even my sister who never plays video games liked it. My fave part was how you can raise monsters buy finding the eggs on your journeys. The boss battles can be challenging sometimes. The graphics are pretty good too. If you like RPGs(and even if you don't) this game is for you.
YUMMY!!!!!

To put it simply, this was one of the best RPG games i've played in a long, long time. As we all know, the design and illustrations are just beautiful, to add to that, it's so much fun how you can choose different "side quests"(i especially liked the Jumi)you can even raise your own kawaii(and not-so)monster. All the characters are rememberable and interesting in their own little querky ways. You can even grow your own fruit!
Their is a bad side....their's always a bad side....all the "side quests" lead you astray from the "main quest" in the end you really have to ask yourself, "why did i fight the managoddess? what has that got to do w/anything?" and a lot other stuff. And sadly, the AI on the 2nd player during conbat is really really sad.
Other than that, every RPG'er needs this game.
I want that game *SO* bad!!

This game should be a definite 5-star. It's got a cool battle system. The quests are fun. There are tons of awesome custom features like customizing your own golems, raising up to 5 pets of different classes, Forging and tempering your own weapons, making your own instruments, and growing your own produce. It's fun so buy it or atleast rent it!
It doesn't live up to the rest of the series.

This is definitely the worst installment of the Seiken Densetsu series, but then again, that statement could mean almost anything, given the sheer brilliance of the original trilogy. I prefer to think of Legend of Mana as the metaphoric dessert of the series, rather than as a complete game. It's like the icing on the cake; nothing more than a victory lap for the SD team upon the completion of what may be the greatest RPG trilogy ever to grace society with its presence. You can get lots of enjoyment out of it, as long as you don't try to play it like a complete game.
Plus, if you're into graphics and eye-candy, then for the love of all that is sacred you must buy Legend of Mana. No one will dispute this point: the graphics of this game are beautiful. That's what comes of the combination of a team of talented artists and an engine that uses hand-drawn backdrops. Perfect 10 for this section.
However, as an RPG (emphasys on the 'G'), Legend of Mana falls down with a rather jarring thud. Each game in the Seiken Densetsu series after the second installment (Secret of Mana) has had a successively worse battle system. You can see that the team wanted the series to be more of an RPG and less of an Adventure; what they failed to realise was that SoM was absolutely enough of an RPG already. It's battle system was spectacular. But in SD3 and LoM, battles are foolishly given their own motion systems, different from the physics of simply walking around and exploring. Specifically, the characters move much much much more slowly. This effect feels awkward, and has no obvious payoff other than satisfying the inner qualms of the designers about whether their games are true RPGs. I wish they'd realised they that indeed WERE. Additionally, weapon usage is a bit weird/poor, and the magic system here is nothing too special. I'd say this is the worst aspect of LoM.
I'm sure you've all heard those terrible rumours about the plot. "It doesn't exist!" most will complain; still others say, "it doesn't make any sense!" I'll agree with them on the point that Legend of Mana didn't have the deepest or most coherent plot ever, but if you don't let it bother you, it's really not a problem like they say it is. And they ARE exaggerating to quite and awful extent. I'd tell you something like, "Don't go into this game expecting it to be like Final Fantasy," ...
