wow!

I will just be short with mine. if you liked GT 1, you will love GT 2. The only big difference between the two is that this one offers more cars, more races, and one more driver license you can try to get. but, the graphics and music and races are awesome, as I definately recommend this game to anyone who loves racing to an extreme. if you are a fan of racing games, or even not, this game is so much fun, a close friend of mine who hates playing video games, now comes over almost every night to play my game. it is that much fun.

Best racing game around! Very thorough with gameplay and mind boggling graphics and control. How could anyone not love this game? I've read some negative reviews and they were all like "I not like dis game, too hard and da game start you with a poopy car. It make me cry and wet my diaper!" Grow up you little wussies and maybe in five years you'll learn how to drive something other than your tricylcles!

Unbelievable Realism!

This game is by far the best racing game I have ever played. It far exceeded my expectations as the sequel to GT, and I was hooked for hours after I bought it. Since the control and everything else is so realistic, it was hard at first because I am so used to the play control of other racing games where it is just so darn easy to turn and corner without worrying about skidding or weight ratios on the wheels. I really liked the idea that you start out as a beginner racer and have to get your license (etc) before you can even race. Cudos to the developers and a message to potential buyers: BUY IT!

More tracks and cars, degraded graphics

I was all excited to get my copy of GT2. 400 cars, Rally Sport mode and more tracks. However, I was sorely disappointed from the opening movie to see that the graphics were not even as good as the original GT. I was expecting much better. The licensing is very tough but very rewarding once mastered. Many Concept cars are available. I love Rally Sport in both arcade and simulation play. The cars are intense! I am glad to have a great selection of vehicles, although most of them will be out of reach for some time. You will spend many hours of tough racing in some used Japanese or American car before you can even begin to consider one of the lower end Euro performers. I like playing the game, but I wish some more attention to detail was given.

No other racing game is even half as good as Gran Turismo 2!

I wish I could give this game mors stars. With more than 500 cars, awsome graphics, and great engine sounds, how could you hate this game! My favorite car on the game is the Mitsubishi Lancer. This game even helped me out with what car I want when I turn 16, (I'm 12) the Mercury Cougar! If you only buy one racing game on PlayStation, buy Gran Turismo 2! IT'S THAT GOOD!

Very disappointing.

Are the people giving this game 5 stars playing the same game I am? The original Gran Turismo was by far the best driving game ever. What happened to the sequel? Choppy graphics and extreme slowness make this game unplayable. There's just no sense of speed like the original, it feels like you're going about 15 mph. Who cares if you can buy over 500 cars if the racing is this boring. Good thing I only rented it.

best game ever GT2!

I would like to say that Gran Turismo2 is clearly the best sonyplaystation game of all time this game features everything you couldpossibly want. If you want to play the best game in the world you better get GT2. If you thought tetris was addicting you ain't seen nothing yet!

GT2 tried to be too much.

This game is NOT like real driving. It seems like you're going only a third of the speed that the spedometer reads. Smacking into a wall at 150m.p.h. does no damage to the car or wall. You can take the easy way around curves just by sliding against the wall or against another car. For more realism, damage could appear on the cars accordingly to be repaired. All the cars are always in pristine condition even the used ones and they nothing ever goes wrong with them. Even though there is a car wash feature they never appear dirty. For night driving, your headlights appear to be on when looking at the front of the car, but when driving, they provide no light at all. This game is not realistic.

I got bored with the Arcade Mode pretty quickly and only used it for two player action. On the Simulation Mode disk, which is the source of the high replayability of GT2, there's hundreds of cars to race, dozens of races to compete in, and five licenses to earn.

The User Manual is pretty useless and basically explains self-explanatory things and in many cases tells you things that you can read right on the screen during the game. The Reference Manual is more scientific, for those who want to be expert drivers, going into detail about different drivetrains, the effect of weight transfer on handling, etc.

Having a soundtrack of popular rock songs is a good idea, except that for each race, the same song repeats endlessly. This really gets annoying for the endurance races where you listen to the same song for 200 miles.

Cars for sale lack information about the performance, handling, or what upgrades the car has or are available for it. Although it tells you about the history of the car company, all it really tells you about the performance is the HP and weight of the car. There should be more information available about the car, a test drive and maybe a lease option since I find that cars become obsolete quickly as you can afford better ones. There is a way around this, though. After buying a car, don't save the game until you're satisfied with test results. There is a special test drive section where you test the time it takes to travel 400m and 1000m starting at 0 m.p.h. There's also a top speed test on a track that has long straightways and only two curves, which slant upward to allow high speeds. Each test records the top eight fastest cars you've tested. The top speed test isn't as accurate or objective as the first two. Cars that have slow acceleration relative to their top speed may not totally recover lost speed between the last curve and the finish line. This test shouldn't have been on an oval track but just a straight, long highway. I think there should at least be 0-60m.p.h. time test.

Used cars cost much less and in many cases have a higher upgrade potential than new expensive cars. But used cars are only available for about a fourth of the brands. Older cars of other brands are sold at full price as if new. Yes, there are hundreds of cars available but many of them are brands I never heard of and cars I'm not interested in racing. There are many cars and even whole brands that I would love to race that aren't available. There are only four Jaguars for sale, and there is no Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Ferarri, or Lexus, to name a few. Immediately after buying a car, the listed value of it becomes about a third of the price you just paid and the value totally excludes what money you spent for upgrades. This can be irritating when a car that is now obsolete for you that you put over 100 grand into will only sell for $4000.

Eventually you'll learn which races you can make the most money in. Some races will give you a bonus car (often worth much more than the prize money) for winning 1st place, even though it doesn't say anywhere that it will. I usually just sell them because I'd rather pick out my own car and the value they offer doesn't seem depreciated. As you get higher licenses and faster cars, you start raking in money faster, which keeps the game interesting. Some of the races are limited to cars with a max of a certain HP. For these races, you want to test different cars and upgrade them to as close as possible to that HP without going over and get all other upgrades available that don't affect HP and buy the car the goes the fastest for that rate of HP. Test the car in the speed tests and write down the results, then restart the game without saving and test more cars. Some cars give a better value in performance and style for your money than others. But to an extent, price eventually becomes no limit because the right car will pay for itself in the races. Some of the races have a theme, like 80's sports cars, or convertibles. But as long as your car doesn't exceed the HP limit, you can enter the race even if your car doesn't fit the theme.

The font on this game is tiny. When accelerating, you must either floor it or have no acceleration at all because the gas pedal is a button. I think they should have made it the right stick, just as the left stick is for steering. That way it would have been more like a real gas pedal. Braking, too, is all or nothing but this isn't as important.

The main problem is that GT2 tried to be too much. I would have liked it better if it didn't have many of the shortcomings I mentioned even if it sacrificed a third of the races and half the cars.

The AI Sucks, But it's Still Fun

The choice of cars is great! Especially the Beemers! Five stars for this category. Somehow the AI seems poorer than GT1. The other 5 cars have similar behaviour and tend to stay in a bunch. They can be overtaken quite easily especially round corners since the cars are collision proof. Three stars for this.
