I have not played anything before FF7, so I'm comparing this game to FF7 and FF8. Final Fantasy 9 takes 7's storyline quality and 8's graphics and scenes and puts them together in one box. The basic battle system makes it challenging in the game as well as giving you the freedom of equiping your characters, which is the great feeling you get from FF8. Final Fantasy 9 is easily my favorite RPG game and will only be topped by another Final Fantasy realese....

I thought that this game was one of the best in the series. It had an interesting magic system and very good graphics. One thing that I didn't like about the game was when I got my Playstion 2 the graphics didnt seem as good as on the first playstation. I don't really know maybe it was just me. I would recomend this game to anyone.

a true gem!

This game is fantastic! In FF7 and FF* there was little depth to the characters, and the two main progatonists were bland and rarely talked. Here the protagonist is very colorful, and is full of personality. The Graphics are the best you will see on the playstation. The abilities system is easy to learn, and is nearly as good as the materia system from FF7. The story is fantastic, there are enough twists and turns to keep it intresting, however there are no plot lines that do not fit in. The battle system is better than FF8 by far, and the trance system is just as good, if not even better than the limit break system. Ignore people that say this game is for little kids. This game will be enjoyed by young and old alike. A must have for any PS library or any true gamer for that matter.

And here I thought FFVIII was awesome ...

Amazon's review is pretty comprehensive, so I don't have to say much about the technicalities of the game. Here are some points I think are noteworthy and deserve to be reiterated:

* Brought back the 'class' system * Awesome graphics and smooth animation * Great cutscenes * An addicting storyline that keeps you playing for hours

Having gotten into the FF franchise late (I started at VIII, then started VII, and now I'm into the 3rd CD of IX), I really enjoyed VIII. It was the humanity of the storyline that roped me in. Amidst all the fighting was a story of an introverted/hostile guy getting into a very carefree and outgoing girl.

I haven't finished IX yet, but I can say FF diehards and newbies alike wille enjoy this title. I heard somewhere that you can cruise through this game in 12 hours if you're anxious. I'm almost at 30 hours at this point on CD#3. I'm forecasting about 40-50 hours will be invested in this game before I call it quits and defeat the end boss.

So, if you're a newbie, be prepared to spend a lot of time on this game. Yeah, you can speedball through and do just enough to keep the story going if you so desire, but I'd definitely take the time and explore and see just how much was put into this game. It's incredible.

The Best Game In The Series

Final Fantasy IX is the best game in the series so far. Why? For a couple of reasons. It has a wonderful storyline, and that caught my attention. I would just play it for hours and hours, oblivious to the time swiftly passing by. However, there are *many* FMVs. I have tried both Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII, and for some reason I've not been able to beat those, but in Final Fantasy IX, I was able to get through the game smoothly. The characters are made well, their personalities quite interesting. I think the music is kind of strange, though, but I like it. I definitely would get a copy of this game, if you haven't already gotten it.

One of the absolute best out there...

This game was excellent. The graphics were breath taking. The characters were adorable, and very likeable. The story was touching and memorable. That should be good enough right there. Final Fantasy 9 is definitely, with out a doubt, one of the best RPG's out there. I recommend this to anyone and everyone. Everyone should love this game.

Good, but wasn't impressed

I'm going to start out in saying that I love the Final Fantasy's. Especially for their story lines. I have to admit that Final Fantasy 9 does have a good story line, and the FMV's are absolutely amazing, and every other aspect of this game is great, except for one thing, and that was the summons. When I first played 8, the summons were amazing, so comparing 8 to 9, I'de have to say that they could have a done a better job on the summons. I felt that the summons on 8 were much better looking than the ones on 9. But I stil love the game. I've been playing the game non-stop and I can't put the game down. This is absolutely a must buy game. I just felt that the game could have been better. Now we have to wait for Final Fantasy 10, and watch it blow them all out of the water!

Best game ever or at least so far

It has a great story it is not serious like FF8 but more humerous one of the best cast of charecters ever very creative especially Qina its story is up there with the reats games of the past not as good as FF2, and 3 but as good as Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy7, and Secret of Mana. its gameplay is as good as any other game and is in the top 10 games of al time easyly with an awsome sidequest the biggest flaw was it was 3d had it been 2d it would hav been even better Overal Highly reccomended not likegames that are not very good like Legend of Dragoon Chrono Cross or Final Fantasy 8 sell off those games and just buy Final Fantasy 9 with the money the other games only make you sick.
