This is one of the best FF games ever made. I love that they went back to the old school style of FF. An instant classic.

Squaresoft does it again!

I've been a fan of the Final Fantasy series for a very long time. Final Fantasy 9 goes back to the old days. Does anyone remember them? When Final Fantasy didn't have all of this technology, just swords, caves, monsters, villages, and magic. Final Fantasy 8 was pretty good, but it got to annoying at parts. Some one at level 25 can do just as good as you could at level 100 due to the GF junction system. Final Fantasy 9 goes back to the white mages, black mages, and dragoons, just like FF2 and FF3. If you played the old ones, and haven't played the more recent ones and was thinking about buying a recent one, go for this one all the way. So far I haven't beaten it yet, but it just might be my favorite Final Fantasy when I beat. If you are thinking about buying it go for it, you won't regret it.

Hmmmm....almost hard to say

Normally, any final fantasy game created would inflict upon me a sense of adventure; with a feeling that draws me into the game itself. However, this game failed to do what the Final Fantasy games are all about. Great story. I found myself entertained, yes, but the story in final Fantasy IX just lacked the depth the previous two titles had. FFVII and FFVIII were probably the two best games ever created.
Final Fantasy IX has a rather cartoonish style, which in my opinion, is just fine, it keeps players interested. I mus say, for a PS1 game, it looks great. I was thouroughly surprised with each new summon. And I stared at the screen in awe when I saw bahamut for the first time. Awesome.
I give this game four stars, just because of the lack of depth. I might add that the game did seem a little short, totalling 32:00 gameplay, (with sidequests).
This is not a bad game, do not get me wrong. Innovative enough to keep any Final Fantasy goer interested, but, just not the same as 8 and 7. Anyone who loves FF games should check out this title, if they have not already.

This game makes it into my top favorite games. When I say 5-stars I mean 50!I was sucked in to the game in the first hour, I couldn't put my controller down. For the PS these are really good graphics, even if you have a PS2 this is a must have! I heard Final Fantasy XI is gonna have Tetra Master in it, so get this game to get some practice if you're thinking about getting FFXI. Anyway, the gameplay rocks, music ROCKS, story REALLY ROCKS, this'll suck up hours of your life if you're not careful, get this game or miss out.

This is the best Final Fantasy I have played and it has a great story line...(not like Final Fantasy VIII) that had a love story. I cant believe Squall had to go thro all that fighting for love ..haha but FFVIII had some great graphics and i really liked the summons when i first saw them.

Those who r in doubt about FFIX, i am telling you everything about the game is great..hell excellent. Nice grapics, gameplay, and the development of characters are great.

The game is the best in the serious and well worth the money..Squaresoft really did an excellent job on this game. BUY THIS GAME !!!! YOUR GOING TO LOVE IT before i forget the Cinemas are great..

i cant wait to see Final Fantasy X and XI....

3 and a half

Final Fantasy VII is the best game ever. I played final fantasy 8 , 4 and 5 ,no need to say that I'm a big fan.The videos on final fantasy are great and in the IX they realy did a great job but i think they improve a little. But after playing the VII and the IIX there is no surprise they kept a big part of the monsters ,the card game is not as good as the one in the IIX and it's not very interesting because it's easy to have card and adversary don't have great ones. The scenario isn't realy a surprise unfortunately. They try to give us 4 charachters and we can't select anothers ones untill the end of the cd3 but it's not very interesting because when someone living he keep his inventory and you realy need the reflect ring . They used the same concepts as the number 5(excatly the same magician...)but i my hero must be a thief he can't summon and use magy(i'm at the end of the 3rd cd)the VII gave us the choice). I realy loved the magie on the VII with the materia,in the VII and the VIII you have to search everywhere but in the IX if you miss something no problem you will be buy it later,it's completly useless to search(except for a few items) The game is great to play but very frustrating, the monsters are too easy ,there is no arcade room , the magie is too limited , the scenario is weak(same). But i realy enjoy playing this game, there is no surprise use potions on undead ,they try to put more humour and sometimes i smile. The game has many weak points, but as always we are expecting a final fantasy as good as the other ones, they create the best rpg and will need to prouve it again(bytheway i can't stop playing this game it's not as good as the 2 last one's but they realy did a great job , i know i will buy the number X but beware games improve or die)

Excellent game

Final Fantasy IX, is a excellent game that goes back to the classic style of the Final Fantasies. Instead of futuristic, there is medievel settings. The main character Zidane was a better character than Squall in FFVIII. The graphics are wonderful and so are the FMV sequences. However, the character graphics are less realistic than FFVII and FFVIII. The ability system has no new innovation, but it mixes the older style and newer styles inside. The ATB system is still there. There are more statuses (very annoying) in the game. Most of the fighting and magic are from older Final Fantasies. One disappointment, is that eidolons/summons are still really weak. In FF5, FF6, FF7, FF8, all the summons were weak. Even Knights of the Round and Eden were weak. None of them compared to the limit breaks. There is still a superpowerful enemy harder than the ultimate boss, and moogles have more of a storyline. There is also a sidequest on chocobos. The ending had very little FMV's, and it .... But overall, it is a very good game

FFIX is my personal favorite of the entire series. I was hooked from Garnet at her window to the last line of the credits. The last boss of the game was a bit of a non sequitir, but every bit of this game was laced with nods to other Square games while retaining its own original storyline and characters.

If you can only buy one Final Fantasy game, this is the one to have. It has all the flavor of the others, plus romance and great sidequests. Its like playing your own movie, most of the time.

This game is one of the many additions to the popular RPG series, Final Fantasy. Like the others IX is not a continuation of VIII but rather a whole epic story in itself. This is a feature by feature review.

Graphics: 5/5
The graphics in this game are pretty good for a 32-bit system. The most amazing thing is the FMV sequences which have superb realism.

Controls: 5/5
The controls are easy to master and simple to use.

Sound: 3.5/5
The sound is good most of the time but sometimes you start hearing funeral music.

Gameplay: 5/5
The gameplay of this game is much like the other Final Fantasy series. And the battle system is also like the others.

Story: 5/5
The story in this game is very long and complex and considering that is spans 4 discs make it a very long one also.

Overall: 4.7/5
This is a really great game and if you are a beginner or an old pro at RPGs you should pick this one up.
