im sorry,but the person who put down number 8 is servierly incorrect.i bought this game when it first came out and took it back a couple of days after due to the firm belief that it was indeed aimed at young children.everything about it was,well,crap.the boss battles were comically simple,with the player left baffled with the limited options you have.attack attack repeat until dead.ff8 was a masterpiece,like 7.there was a plot to it,it just took time to understand,it was more complex.......not a simple 'save the princess' story.the characters in this game were terrible.for children.im gonna pick this up again cheap,to give it another chance,it was years since i played it,but i dont think il change my opinion.

This game was WAY TOO EASY! When I defeated the final boss, I was like - "That was it?" My characters were only in the level 50-60 range (unlike in Final Fantasy VIII, I am in the 70-80 range, and the last boss is still impossible for me to beat!).
Actually, every point of this game was easy! Where is the challenge? I think Squaresoft is trying to please their 'fans' by making easy games so 'they' won't get frustrated with it.
Also, learning spells and abilities in this game was dumb. You have to learn them from your equipment.
The fighting was not very fun or exciting and it takes forever to trance. I think each of your characters only trance about 3-4 times throughout the whole game. So what's so exciting about that?
However, some of the reasons why I gave it three stars is the storyline and the characters.
I DID enjoy the storyline, even though there were no twists or surprises or whatever, but it is still enjoyable.
And the characters all had their interesting personalities.
The game also doesn't drag much because it goes by so quickly (Which is, I guess, both a good and a bad thing).
But if you're looking for a challenging game, then skip this.
Get Final Fantasy Tactics, instead.

definately the worst FF in the series. i don't mind the cartoony graphics but the story was ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. it was sooooo boring and the game was too easy. there were hardly any fun side things to do. i didn't like FF 8 much either but it's definately better than this one.

I swear if it wasn't that i liked final fantasy 7 and 8 so much i'd just break this game at then i'd move on and be happy. But i can't do that because that would be waste of money the only thing that kept me in the game was the fact that i did'nt want to waste money. This game makes kingdom hearts look like a M rated game. Oh my god this is so childish. You know how in most final fantasy games they try to make the main character cool they didn't feel like doing that in this one. You are a monkey-man! How stupid is that. Plus the other character are way more dumb looking that the main one im just happy i beat in and can put that awful exp. behind me. AHHHHHHHHHH!

Great Expectations

Being an avid Final Fantasy fan, I bought Final Fantasy IX as soon as it hit stores in the U.S. About an hour into the game, I was as confused as when I turned the game on. I missed the character development and the sheer intensity which F.F VII and VIII started off with. I felt that the beginning premise of the game was weak, and therefore I wasn't drawn into the game in the same way. While IX has impressive movies, I feel that the storyline was sorely lacking. All the hype lead me to expect great things, but all I found was a big letdown.

I have to admit, the Final Fantasy series is amazing! But Final Fantasy IX to me, wasn't so interesting...I admit it was a fun game, but it had TO MANY love seens with Zidane and Garnet! The battling is cool and the graphics are awesome, but it didn't attract me good...

I put 1 star so someone would look at mine. I'd give this game at least 4 stars though. Lets face it though, FF7 was pretty good, FF8 didn't exactly match up to the expectation of FF7 and FF9 was better than FF8, but still worse than FF7. The chararcters and story line are probably the only two things that'll frustrate you. The music was okay,but the difficulty of this game was just wrong. It isn't exactlty an RPG if SquareSoft makes a game so easy to beat. But, hey it's Final Fantasy, how can you hate it.

This is by far the weirdest game I've ever played/owned, and it's FF nonetheless. A monkey boy as the main character? Give me a break. I recall the gameplay being okay, but I could never get used to the weird characters like the monkey boy and the rooster. I don't know what the heck Squaresoft was thinking when they made this one. I think a few of the developers were on drugs or something. LOL

This game just reeks of sell out i can't even beleive they can legally charge you to own this game. The characters are stupid repeated ideas of previous games mixed with new stuff to make ultra bad characters with a horrible plot and BAD NAMES oh yes BAD NAMES the NAMES MAKE ME SICK WHEN I HEAR THEM. The protagonist is a perverted howler monkey wiht out a life and he makes me sick. Where has squares integrity gone that they must drag such a good name through the mud. I hope those of you who bought this never played the great final fantasies such as (in japanese numbers) 1,2,6,7 and even tactics yes tactics was great. But this shame s the final fantasy name yet one more time... neil,16
