This game is one of the best RPGs for the playstation. It has a great plot and great animation. The only thing I could find that I disliked is the radom battles. (there were to many) I hope this reveiw has helped you. I highly recommend you buy this game.

This game was pretty good. It was better than FF8 but not as good as FF7. The game was pretty easy the only hard enemies were the optional super bosses (like emerald and ruby weapon in FF7).One of the reasons I think it is better than FF8 is because the chocobo system is back. FF8 had chocobos but you couldn't really do anything exept ride them. In FF9 you can improve your chocobo like you could in FF7. The story is very good and the game had awesome FMV sequences. The only really bad thing about this game is that it is very short. Well, I was playing it constantly but it seemed a whole lot shorter than FF8. I didn't really get that much out of this game. It just seemed like it was too short. Maybe that's because your characters are confined to a certain part of the world for most of the game where as in FF8 you got to float around the whole world on the second disk. In FF9 you dont get the airship until the third disk and by then there isn't much of the game left. But still everything else about the game is good.

This game is good!

FF9 is a great game and is better than most other RPG's now im not saying it is the best RPG but it is worth the money it is a good comeback from some of the other FF's and i have been playing for about 13 years. but i havent found it to be any less than ... but it's worth it!

Different, but still fun

This has to be the most unique FF of the series. From FF 8 graphics to Secret of Mana graphics. Animations are nicely done though. This is not the best in the series (by far). For one, the story line isn't all their. It kind of sucks actually. No where nere as good as FFVI or FFVII's. Another let down is gameplay. While only being able to summon with one character adds strategy, it also means less chaos and somewhat cheating (remember FF7?) Overall the game isn't bad bye all means. You still have your awesome cut scenes and such, but the mood just isn't there. Although I didn't get into this one as the previous games, I still like it much just because it's final fantasy and no game in the series will be a let down.

The game that defined the series for me

OK, OK, so I know all the VII junkies are gonna disagree, and I'll admit that VII was an amazing game, but the game that really brought the Final Fantasy series to life for me was IX. The game is simply incredible. It wasn't the first Final Fantasy I ever played (that was VII), and it isn't the best-looking Final Fantasy (that would go, hands down, to X), but there's just something about it that was intensely appealing to me.

Final Fantasy X was the first in the series to make use of voice-overs, and this really brought a lot more life to the characters. But IX's characters will always be my favorites. They were brought just as skillfully (if not more) to life than in X...without voice-overs, or dramatic camera angles, or anything. The game's basic atmosphere was a lot more light-hearted than most of the recent FF's as well. But this didn't stop the moving plot from hitting you hard. In fact, it was probably more so because of it.
All in all, the game is an increible experience, and even without all the nostalgia, Final Fantasy buffs claim it has (I wouldn't know, as I've never played through any FF's before VII) this game was simply awesome, and I would recommend it strongly to anyone out there, as an incredible game, and one of the best stories you could ever experience.

Wonderful,wonderful

I have no idea what I am saying. Anyway,I'm sure all you RPG fans out there LOVE this game, but does anybody give a hoot about the language used in it?! For cryin' out loud! You got little guys who look like Link from Zelda, cussing and going every time somethin' goes wrong! I know, not because I have FF9, but because I have it's big bro, FF8, and let me tell you, Zell needs a piece of tape over his mouth!! And if FF9 is anything like FF8, the language will absoloutly STINK. Don't get me wrong, it's not like swearing is the only language ever used in FF8, but it seems when one particular character named Zell Dincht gets upset,(angry, irritated, or impatient), he lets his knowledge of dirty words FLY. And if your think that there's only some "D" words in there and maybe one or two hmm "other word for mule" sprinkled without, you've got another thing coming. Let see, in the course of one CD, Zell swore 5 times. Maybe that isn't so bad to some, but that really peeved me. I wanted to yell "SHUTUP" at the TV screen so bad. The "a" word was used the minute you meet Zell, sure sign he won't hold back when he's angry. Then, sometimes, he'll shutup, and be fine! Like right now, I'm on the second CD of FF8, and Zell (aww, good boy), has kept his mouth shut, this time Squall took over and swore twice. Grrgh!! Guess you can't get away from it. Yeah, yeah, Seifer swore two or three times, all you Squall-lovers out there. Anyway, my point is, they make these games for the younger generation, why can't they just narrow down the rotten language to a minimal "d" in certain, really bad situations where one might swear anyway. If they are trying to make Zell look dumb next to Seifer, they're doing a great job of it. So far, when Zell gets mad, he appears so dumb all he can think of is a dirty word, when Seifer gets mad, he thinks of something extremely innteligent and irritating "Whaddya doin' Zell? Swatting flies?", so that no one can beat him with something more rotten to say. And when he gets mad, Seifer doesn't use those words to describe who he's getting mad at (like Zell), so far, all he's said is "Shut your "d" mouth, etc.etc" to Zell, when things were really going bad and by Quistis telling, swore twice "d". Back to the game at hand!! If you want a decent language game that you can be sure the whole family can sit down and watch their kid play, WATCH YOURSELF WITH THIS ONE AND FF8! The language may surprise you!

ALMOST as good as FFVII

This game is my second favorite FF. I've played through it about 3 1/2 times and i'm still waiting for it to get old. The characters are well done (even by final fantasy standards, and that's saying a lot) and the magic/abilities system is much improved from the ever confusing and impractical junctioning system from FFVIII. This system relies on equipping weapons, armor and items, then earning ability points by fighting monsters to learn new skills or develop immunities. Another noteworthy feature to this game is the music. this is the only game apart from FFVII that i have ever considered buying the soundtrack to, the music is that good. I would also like to add that Kuja is one of the coolest villains since Sephiroth. If only he didn't look so girly...oh well, he's pure evil, so that compensates.

Fun game..

After playing FF8 (which I despise) I kind of thought Square was going downhill. Then to my surprise as well, not all that much advertising went into FF9. I remember for 8 their were commercials on a lot, then for 9 their was none, and I went into a store and saw that it was out, I was very shocked to say the least. So of course I bought it, this was a few years ago, obviously.

Anyways, the characters are loveable. Zidane being the thief in shining armor, and Garnet the princess in distress.
The plot is decent as well. It got to the point without taking forever to get there, and actually had quite a few twists (the ending was very surprising.)

It might be sort of misleading, on the cover it says "the crystal is coming home" or something along those lines, when the crystal isn't even really talked about until the end of the game, and you met the final boss only 2 minutes before fighting him in the final battle. Other than that, this game is highly enjoyable.

Don't buy it used or you'll miss out!

Seriously,I made that mistake now I'm saving up for a new copy.Don't fret if you can't find it here, it's at Best Buy.And the guide I saw it here .Anyway you don't need to have played another Final Fantasy game to understand this, I have most of them and I see no relation whatsoever between them.If you love CG sequences or as some people call it,"FMV"(s) than never fear this game has one every five minutes. In terms of story this game is the best.Although in my opinion this is the second easiest of the Final Fantasy series , you will need the strategy guide which is useful.Although you might want your computer near your Playstation (2) . Here are my overall scores.

GRAPHICS:10/10
You might not agree with me but rememer this is for Playstation one and it was made three years ago.

CG/FMV Graphics 9/10
They could of done better if your looking for extremely good CG try Final Fantasy X

STORY: 10/10
I'm still on Disc 3 due to my extremely scratched up used copy. But it is a surprisingly good story.

Reasonably Priced:9/10... isn't that bad

"FIND-A-BILITY" 8/10
This is "was it at a pawn shop in Kansas 300 miles from the nearest town"

OVERALL: 10/10
BUY THIS GAME,NOT USED!
