The Less Fantastic Fantasy

As anyone reading this should know the 'Final Fantasy' series are without the slightest doubt the best role playing games in the world. The graphics in the movie sequences are the closest to real life that can be possibly made at this point in time. The story lines could even be made into top selling novels. What I have just written is true with only one exception, FINAL FANTASY IX.
The story begins with such complexity, throwing so many people who are totally different into the one party. The game is set in medeavil times which takes you way back to games before FFVII and as if that isn't bad enough the games battle sequences involves four of the characters at once rather than the previous trio battle groups this can be seen way back in the primitive years of 'Final Fantasy Legands' for the GAME BOY!!!!!!
The movie sequence's graphics are as usual... astounding, but because of the storyline they can only be so interesting.
The battle mode seems fairly easy to use but thoughout the game it will get harder and you'll have to summon creatures such as shiva to help you and because of the old type Magic Points you can only do this a little.
All in all the characters and the game in general are not as cleverly thought through as their pedecesors let's hope Squaresoft can recover from this slump and make up for it with Final Fantasy X for the Playstation 2 and in the short term why not go see the movie.
Sorry but it's only a 2 out of 5 from me
Almost as bad as FFVIII?

Could it be that Final Fantasy IX is almost as bad... possibly even WORSE than Final Fantasy VIII? Well, I'll leave that decision up to you, but it seems these days Square is giving us a big let down via Final Fantasy. The once amazing series is pumping out tons of new titles chock-full-o excellent graphics, but sappy storylines and way to many random battles.
Again, another incredibly easy game. It was a breeze to go through, no need to stop and make level-ups, etc. The bosses are easy, the final bosses are easy, hell even the final battle is easy!
As for the rest of the battles, I finally do have a complaint. WAY to many random battles. I can deal with the hefty some of random battles in other titles, but in FF9 it just broke the limit. Countless times I beat my head against the wall because I wouldn't walk more than an inch and another random battle would start. It wasn't that they were hard... just too many, too easy, too annoying!
The character development sucked.
Really we hardly got to know any of the characters, and Zidane was such a sappy chap he just grated on your nerves. I wanted to kill Garnet, err... Dagger, err... she's dead now! Quina was a pointless character to have... almost no development at all and no real use in battle. Her only purpouse was for last ditch comedic releif.
Amarant was cool, but we never got to learn much about him! Steiner starts off annoying, and ends up still pretty annoying. The only characters I really liked was Vivi, who did get a fairly good amount of development, Beatrix who hardly made much of an impact on the game, and Kuja... the sexy and ulta-femme (bishonen) bad guy.
The graphics really weren't ultra-steller... and I thought the music was of slightly lower quality and originality then in the original game. The vocal music (main theme) was absolutely HORRID!
Kuja's theme was about the only redeeming song in the lot. In fact he was the only reason I kept playing at times. Just to see his beautiful face!
Oh, and by the way-- The ending was awful...
Good, but not THAT good

First off, this is not a bad game. I only gave it that rating because the average is overinflated. It is good, but it is the worst Playstation Final Fantasy. I reccomend 8.

The first Final Fantasy game I ever played was FF5. I loved it. Then I played 6, and I loved it more. The storylines of 7 and (especially) 8, were nearly as good as 6, and their graphics were far better (especially 8). When I heard that 9 was coming out, I almost went crazy. I was so excited at the prospect of a new Final Fantasy. And then... I saw an add for it. A ... little ... with a tail for a hero, a 3-year old looking princess who's the heroine (Garnet, not Eiko - i won't even mention HER), and giant knight with a lot of makeup and a tiny head. One word- childish. There is no story line, at least no storyline that's more advanced than our favorite nursery rhyme. Everything is stupid and childish, and even though the graphics are great, they're completely wasted on this crummy game. Squaresoft, you rule, but this game ... Go back to the 6, 7, and 8 style, not the kindergarden style. FF9 ... Don't buy it, unless you're looking for a good laugh, and you're money back.
IS THIS FOR REAL?

This game has got to be the worst final fantasy ever. There is no way this game could be an dubbed as a final fantasy, i mean seriously come on. This game was one of the easiest games i have ever played and i think it was a simple challenge. i didn't even 9 hours straight i passed way more quickly than any other final fantasy. if you want to check it out that's up to you, but take my advice, it's not worth it.

Okay where do I begin? Well first off the graphics: now I will admit the backrounds are great but the characters look like they all had birth defects imagine the character models of ff7 in exploration mode but shiny and slick. The plot: the plot is terrrible, theres no twists theres no turns its so linnear and predicatable you can tell what's going to happen before it actually happens , and the worst part is you don't care about the characters like you did in ff7
2(the best game ever made).THE GAMEPLAY: this is the worst part in the game, you have to run around getting weapons and putting spheres inside them just to learn spells and the battle system is completely see through.
gameplay 1/10 shallow terrible
characters 0 /10worst characters ever (the main guys a monkey!) plot 1/10 linear terrible
if your going to buy a final fantasy first buy 7, then 10,and finally 8
FF players stay away

This is the worst Final Fantasy game I have played. Square did not seem to care and only wanted to get one more game out for PS1. Granted, the graphics have improved since FF8, but the story has not. The plot is dull and starts to jump in the end. The battle system is [poor], consiting of equiping weapons to learn abilities which you activite with x number of spheres. Towards the end of the game, it gets almost impossible to earn enough money to buy the weapons. The bosses are also not very challenging. The only thing that saves this game is the Chocobo hot and cold game. Not as much fun as FF7 racing, but it did keep me busy. This is one Final Fantasy I will not replay.

The Final Fantasies on Playstation have been some of the best videogames ever created. I enjoyed Final Fantasy 8 and cared about the characters, even though it was some what over complicated. Final Fantasy 7 was a great game but characters were not constructed well like FF8. In Final Fantasy 9 the characters are similar to FF7's, not much personality. The story was good after you get to the secong disc. The graphics were great and i think it has the best replay value of all the Final Fantasies. The reason I am giving this game 4 stars is because of Characters and how easy it really was and a players guide is kind of useless. Overall, this is one of the best games I have ever played and i recommend buying it.

When I started playing the game, the first thing that startled me was the excellent graphics. Then I was amazed by the smooth gameplay and enchanting music. And I especially enjoyed the ability to play as two parties. If there's something that makes me addicted, it's a good storyline. Sadly, it takes a while for the latter to surface in this game. Also, the messy battles and strange looking characters failed to impress me. And the overly long absence of certain characters in some parts of the game ( the trip to Burmecia where Garnet and Steiner were away for a worryingly long time ) makes it tiring to help them catch up with the others. All in all, I found the game humourous, the characters lovable and the graphics impressive. Final Fantasy 9 will not fail to enchant less... fussy players.
A New Final Fantasy... what else is there to say?

This game lands right in between Final Fantasy 7 and 8. 7 being the best in the series and 8 being one of the worst. This game has the high points of Espers, New Abilities, and Amazing CG's. It also has the low points of Low Gameplay Hours, and Pixelated Battle Graphics. This game is a pretty sweet game, if your a fan of Final Fantasy , or even if your not, go pick this game up.
