Fans of the Final Fantasy series from SquareSoft had long noted how each successive game seemed to be set farther and farther into the future, introducing machinery and mechanisms that raised interesting ecological themes when placed side-by-side with swords, sorcery, and monster-bashing fighting. With Final Fantasy IX, the final title released in the series for the original Play Station, Square rewards fans of the older titles in the series with a wonderful return to their roots that maintains the graphics and gameplay of the newer entrants to the Final Fantasy legacy.
Featuring, as usual, a beautiful score, intricate story line, and a cast of diverse and interesting characters, Final Fantasy IX is destined to be a classic in the series, if a somewhat overlooked one due to the hype surrounding the series' transition to PlayStation 2. Final Fantasy IX takes the world of original Play Station role playing games to the very boundaries of its potential.
The game returns the Dragoon, a character who leaps off the screen to crash down with her lance upon enemies; revisits the black mage familiar to fans of the NES installations of the series and of FF 5; and also introduces odd and interesting twists on characters such as the "gourmet" who devours enemies to gain their powers. With this title, Square has mastered the character archetypes of the previous eight in the series and taken them to new levels.
Veteran fans of Final Fantasy and debutants to the SquareSoft RPG world will both enjoy this homage to the entire Final Fantasy universe. Don't pass this game up simply because it isn't for PS2, X-Box, or Gamecube--you'll be missing out on something special!
Be open-minded; this game is incredible!

This game will affect you in various ways, as long as you're open-minded about its graphics and some similarities to its ancestor, Final Fantasy VI {JP}. The main character, Zidane Tribal, will have you hiding your grin behind your hand as he makes witty, sometimes perverted {but fun!}, comments; his not-so-classic princess, Princess Garnet Til Alexandros XVII, will make you feel for her and her story; Princess Garnet's guardian, Adelbert Steiner, makes you snicker and love the teddy-bear-gone-knight - even this story's villains, such as the effeminate {and beautiful} Kuja, will make you think in some way.
It's an extraordinary game with extraordinary features. Its plot is unique; its characters will win you over; its graphics are adorable, and highly detailed; the battle system is quick and easy to get used to; its mini-games are fun and addictive; its music is nothing less than to be expected from our beloved Nobuo Uematsu - wonderful.
There's no wonder it's my favourite Final Fantasy. Highly recommended.
ole school fun!

Unlike 7 and 8, 9 has rennaisance-age look to it. You start out as a theif named Zidane(neweste male hero with a wackey weapon), but this theif has some new skills rather than "steal" that makes him more useful then the old theifs of finalfantisy. In fact you may notice that each character has his/her own job class that they stay in though out the game. You must master the skills of your characters by equiping items which bring out new skills, so watch out when you change your items. The character design gives an idea of what their personalitys are with expressive movements. I have a good time watching Vivi's runing style(hes so squated). The story line WON'T let you down like crono cross or ff8 did. This has all the good stuff the other games had packed in to one great game.
(Almost) Best FF Game Ever

Hands down, FF9 is nearly the best Final Fantasy game ever (I still have a soft spot for FF4 and 6, so sue me. *shrugs*)
The graphics aren't as realistic as in FF8, though they're a world better than FF7's. And, while the story is more of a throwback to earlier games in the series, having played FF7 and FF8, I'd have to say that that's a factor in its favor. FF9 has it all.
A gripping plot involving romance, political intrigue, action, and fantasy.
An interesting setting that you *wish* they'd do more with.
Interesting characters who each have their own plots.
And, best of all, while it's very, very difficult to master 100%, it can still be beaten without having to be a gaming master.
Frankly, this game deserves more than the 5 stars I'm allowed to give it.
The FINAL Final Fantasy for the PSone

This is probably one of my least favorite FF games on the PSone. There are some good things and some bad things about this game. first the bad: 1. Squaresoft (Now Square Enix, Goddammit!) was trying to get to the old roots of the SNES games. To me anyway, it doesn't look entirely like those games. 2. Some of the characters are the worst in the FF games' history (Quina, Eiko, and Garnet. I am not sexist, it's just that their abilities suck and their type of combat is terrible). the other characters are good, not great, but decent. 3. I don't care too much for the character models (the deformation and Final Fantasy 8 graphics mix). okay for the good parts of the game: 1. The Cinemas!!! they look really good for a PSone game, most of the games cinemas on the PSone don't look that great in this era of gaming and even some during that era. 2. Ending!! I am not saying anymore. 3. The battle system. it's not quite FF8 and not quite FF7 but it's in between and has the Trance system thingy. After this game, I sadly am seeing the series not being as good as it once was (I like Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicals and can't wait for the remake of FF3 for the DS), Final Fantasy 10 isn't that legendary, FF 11, which I never did and never will play (because of fees, reminds me too much like Phantasy Star Online (I like that game though), and not much of a single player expericence with no storyline), and FF 12 just because it will have the FF11 battle engine, looks like FFCC and FF10 mixed together, and I just seem not to care that much about the newer FF games anymore. So I would recommend any FF game on the PSone (Including the PSone ports of the SNES games and Origins) because they are so great and even if the games don't have the best graphics in the world, it's gameplay and storylines that count.
Back to the days of Old.

This game is a major turnaround compared to the last two FF games. Instead of being in a more futuristic world full of machines and skyscrapers, we return to the roots of Final Fantasy and a more Fantasy D&D like setting.
I had a blast with this game. And I didnt know what to expect. I knew that Square wouldnt let me down, but I was also worried that the whole battle system might be complicated as hell as part 8 was. Well, I had a smile on my face when I found that the battle system was fun and easy.
When I say that there was a return to the roots of Final Fantasy with this game, I was not just talking about the setting. Even the battle system has returned to old. A system where you fight with four team memebers, and you can equip aromor again. Not only that, but even the characters look more sprite like. Each character has a job, including the loving ViVi who looks like the original black mage.
The story is a good one, full of plot twists and turns, that will leave you on your toes. And the best part of the game if you ask me is the VERY VERY surpise of a final boss. Someone.... or something that you would NEVER guess. Although a good final boss, I was dissappointed at how easy he was. Other then that. I loved this game and still do. Dont miss this RPG classic.

This game is great. I have beaten this game for several times now, but I still enjoy playing it very much. The plot, the settings, and the characters were much lighter and easier to enjoy than the ones in other FF installments. I surely feel no regrets whatsoever to recommend this game to everyone...

I liked Final Fantasy 7 way better! One thing I don't like about this game is that in battle mode, you don't get to see your character's maximum HP capabilty. All you see is his or her current HP and MP status. That's only the beginning though.
Not only am I disgusted by the main character Zidnae being a money boy with that stupid tail making him such a dork, and the fact that the princess practically hates him, but I'm also disgusted by the fact that you mostly can't buy Ethers and or hi=potions anywhere in the game!
That is a total joke! In FF7, the character Cloud was cool, his black friend with the cannon for an arm was cool, and that boss Sephieroth (or however the name's spelled) was a masterpiece! This game lacked some adventure and extraordinaryness that No. 7 and 8 had. It almost seemed like this game was sort of more in touch with reality than fantasy. I prefer fantasy!
The plot was also a bit too repetitive with an unchanging storyline.
Also, the graphics and battle mode were better in No. 7. I love Final Fantasy 7!, but I felt generous enough to give this game 2 stars because that guy Kuja and those summoned creatures like Bahamut, Odin, and Ifrit are cool.
I look forward to a big improvement for the future Final Fantasy games.
Thank you and have a good day,
Steven

I had originally posted that this game wasn't very good, and had lost some final fantasy falre. That was before I was wise to the whole Final Fantasy world. I was ignorant. So I decided to give it another chance and play it over again when I had a more open mind. And I have to say, it is much better than I had previously thought. First off, it returns to a bit of the classic Final Fantasy games with the occupation standard. The main character is a theif, thus he cannot use black magic. The black mage cannot steal and yaddy yaddy. It also has a better developed plot that some RPGs out there. The score by Nobuo Uematsu is superb though not among his best in my opinion, but still powerful. If your looking for an RPG that is fun, challenging, and bit old time, this is a good one.
