Unlike other RPGs, this one is very short and it is the shortest RPG I have ever played. There's not many bosses in this game and not very much puzzle solving. This game lack any adventure in it. Not many places to explode. I love the final fantasy games, I expected this game be as long as VII & VIII. I beat this game one month. The other final fantasy games, took me months to get pass disc 1.
Exellent game, buy it now... now!... NOW!!!

Iv played all the ff's and this one is my favourate by far, with 7 not far behind. this has a very medieval theme, exellent. but i have to say they failed on the relationship on the characters, the soundtrack was good overall im going to keep it at 5 stars for both, because i cant bully them because of the characters after all that goodness of this game (dont mind my bad english and vocab, iv just got back from school and too tired to worry about it)

I have been playing these Final Fantasy games for a hot minute now, and I know how hipe these games can get. Every game in the series up untill FFX-2 are just great. But I would put FF7 and FFX as my personal favorite.
I Dont have anything against this game, like the other FF games in the series it grabs your attention fast. The graphics to me are the best the original playstation has to offer and the characters are well designed. Most of the character have a childish look to them, any kid under 13 years of age would love them. Zidane is the kid you will be controlling throught the game, Im not going to waste my time talking about the rest of the characters but Im going to go on the record saying that Dagger, one of the summoners in the game has to be the finest chick I ever saw in an FF game, she my be young but as far looks and personality goes she beats every girl in series.
The story is also good but its notthegames greatest strength. Even though Ive enjoyed FF7 and FF8's stories the most, this one is more harder to register, its eve deep and emotional. The regular battles and bosses were easy to defeat, but if you dont train your characters they wont be easy to defeat. On this game your abilities are learned by eqiuping weapons and armor, once you've get enough AP to learn the ability you dont have to equip to learn anymore, to me its easier than other ways I had to learn abilities on other FF games.
The thing that I didnt like about this game was the childish feel to it, this game brings back the feel of the old FF games like 1,2,3,4,5&6, Ive havent played any of those six games since I was 12. Im still playing FF7,8&10 today which are the more mature FF games. now that Im 18 its hard to enjoy the childish fun of this game. I would say that any huge fan of the old FF games would crave this game to the fullest, but if you have never played any of the first 6 FF games and played all the others such as 7,8&10 this game would not be very enjoyable, expecially if you if you've grown out of the old FF games.
well

final fantasy 9 is a cute and simple game. it's not fun to play and towards the end of disc three, kind of becomes a chore to finish the game off. the ending boss made no sense and every character gets lame/repetive/boring at one point or another. its predictability makes it too boring to play through sometimes, though its ending is too cute, its mediocre at best.

This is the best Final Fantasy yet. And, I would love to see these same characters in another adventure. The game kept my interest so much that I couldn't wait to finish it. When I did, I wanted to play it again and enjoy the experience all over.
The story sets out with a young boy from a theatre/thieves group named Zidane. They are set out to kidnap the Princess. While at the same time, the Princess wishes to be free from the castle. As they end up escaping together her burly guard Steiner joins in the pursuit to save the Princess. His dislike and distrust of Zidane and the Tantlus group causes many funny outbreaks throughout the game.
Along the way they meet a Black Mage named Vivi who wants to know more about himself and where he came from. Not understanding what life really means he follows with Zidane and company to find the answers to life. Throughout the story Steiner remains protective of both Vivi and the Princess.
As the group begins to travel their continent, the Princess chooses to remain anonymous during their journey, changing her name to Dagger. She carries the ability to summon Eidolons, but will not use the ability out of fear of hurting people. As Zidane tries to teach the Princess to be outgoing and more like a normal citizen, Steiner keeps plotting ways to get the Princess back to the castle. Dagger begins to grow mentally older with her journey with Zidane and realizes what it means to be a real person and not just a Princess.
As the story progresses, Freya, an old friend of Zidane, enters. She is out to find her long lost love that disappeared years before. As she sets out, she becomes swept up with the problems and chaos that has been inflicted on her home of Burmecia.
The next person they meet is a character named Quina. S/he is a strange one who wants to travel the world searching for new foods. S/he was sent away to join them to get more culture by her master from Qu's dwelling. It reminds you of looking after a young child while on the quest with Quina present.
Eiko is the seventh member to join. A little girl of about six, she carries the ability to summon Eidolons, as Dagger does. She falls in love with Zidane and doesn't want to be alone anymore. Her village was destroyed years before and she is the last remaining of the settlement of Madain Sari. So, she travels the world with the boy she wants as her new boyfriend. Although young, she has great abilities and is very helpful to the crew. She is great for healing and rebirth of the group with her awesome Phoenix summoning power.
As the story continues, the group meets up with a character named Amarant. He was sent out as a bounty hunter to find the Princess and bring her home. He loses his battle with Zidane and ends up following the young boy and his strange band of fighters out to see what makes him tick. He can't figure out how he could have lost and wants to know what makes Zidane so special. By doing this Amarant learns the meaning of teamwork and friendship.
The story seems like it is coming to an end and then shoots off to another adventure. They thought everything would be better and it gets worse. The group sets off again and Dagger goes through some drastic changes and becomes a stronger warrior. Zidane and Dagger have become my all time favorite characters.
Keeping with its' medieval setting sends this game through the roof. It is the ultimate fantasy and the characters are to cherish. Never have I seen a game so well put together. I hope to see another game with these characters in the future. Although not natural for the Final Fantasy series, this one would be the one to make a sequel with or even a new adventure CGI movie like the one coming out in the summer.
In the end, it is a fantastic quest to find out the real meaning of life and friendship with a spark of love.
If that doesn't just say it all, wait until you play the game. There are more mysteries and story lines that will blow you away. This is only the beginning of the journey you will be swept into. Not only is the game amazing, but so is the music. Nobuo Uematsu did a wonderful job in composing the music for this game. It is inspiring to listen to and has a beautiful song called Melodies of Life that romanticizes the whole experience. This makes it a fun game for both male and female players.
Great animation, but no originality

Final Fantasy IX starts out as being a completely different experience. However, it is soon apparent that Square was not thinking correctly when doing this storyline. The monsters almost all bear names that have appeared in previous titles, the black mage (though cool) and the Dragon Knight (wicked, but enough is enough) resurface quickly and linger throughout the game. At first it's fun to see these popular themes resurface, but it has gone way too far. The only plus sides to this game that I can think of are: the great graphics and animation and the music (Uematsu has done it again!) Plus the RPG is too short; if you can get an item by beating the game in less than 12 hours, it is too short, ok? No questions asked.
A dissapointing entry in the longest running game series

I don't have much that I can say about this game that is good. The story line didn't make this game worth while, and while the gameplay was better than FF VIII the character models were iritatingly childish. This is what we get from the systems that accuses Nintendo of being nothing but kiddie games? You can't have cutsie cartoony characters swear and pass it off as not being kiddie crap, and I'm sorry, but that's what this game was. It wasn't even an epic kiddie game like Mario, or Pokemon, what this was wasa mediocre last ditch attempt to try and sqeeze some much needed cash out of the franchise, and while it wasn't entirely unlikeable, it was such a throwback to older games that it was completely unoriginal, and there in lied it's problem. It's plot, characters, etc were all rehash from past FF games. There are moments of silliness that will force a smile out of you, but I found myself anxious to have the game overwith, and never bothered to dig into side quests, bonus Eidilons or any of that. Had FF IX been FF VIII maybe I would have liked it better, but to spoil me with FF VIII's graphics, then expect me to be happy with the super deformed kiddie garbage is unfair. Thankfully FF X takes the series back into a progressive state, unlike this one which was more rehash than nostalgia.
yuck

Everybody is always saying how FF 9 is great because it gets back to the roots of Final Fantasy. But this game is nothing like FF 7 at all. It doesn't come anywhere close to FF 7. Its got wacky graphics, and a boring, kiddy storyline, and the combat system in 9 is just way too simplistic. FF 9 is just another stinker from Square, which is what all us super-fans have come to expect. If they don't get it right next time, I will swear off Square games forever. That includes FF 7, so that would effectively be like commiting suicide, because without FF 7, I'm sure I would enter a permanent vegetative state. Get it right Square, or I will never be able to forgive you.
