At EB Games, I had the choice between this and Dark Cloud 2. I personaly think that the Dark Cloud series is a waste of time(mainly because Dark Cloud 1 sucked baaad), so I chose this. I must say, this is a pretty good game.

Final Fantasy IX - Circa 1999
GOOD:
- Recaptures classic NES Final Fantasy theme on PS1
- Some nice CG movies in between gameplay
BAD:
- Graphics are pretty dated
- Not considered as classic to many as Final Fantasy VI, VII, or X
IF IT FITS YOUR TASTE:
- Turn based RPG
- No voice-overs, so there is lots of reading
- Card Battling as a mini game
- Super-Deformed look for the characters turned off a lot of people
GAME ITS MOST ASSOCATED TOO:
- Final Fantasy VII
- Final Fantasy VIII
- Legend of Dragoon
- Chrono Cross
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- All Final Fantasy are not related to one another, think of each Final Fantasy a it's own game not connect in any real/true way to another Final Fantasy, the only exception is Final Fantasy X-2 which is a sequel to Final Fantasy X
The Great has returned!

With the disapointment of the previous game, FF8, FF9 brings back everything and much more! This game keeps you on your toes the whole time! The storyline is wonderful, and the character development is incredible! If you liked FF7 or FF6 this game will make you jump for joy.
FF9 a great game

Final Fantasy 9 is a much better game than FF8. FF9 is set in around medival times but the game play is pretty much th same as FF 7and 8. It is 4 discs long. The strategy guide is fair but it is still good to have. Of FF,7,8, and 9 FF7 is the best. FF9 is almost as good. It depends on what you like. The one bad thing is the main Character Zidanne. She is a very crudy character. Over all it is definitely worth your money.
Hands down, the best since FF6!

In a nutshell, that says it. Cult followers and devotees to the Square philosophy will often declare that Final Fantasy 6 (3 in the U.S.) was the greatest RPG ever. Period. Well 9 comes darn close to meeting that level of excellence. The background graphics are clean and carry a more mature color balance and palette than 8 or 7. The overall level of detail in character animations, both battle and otherwise, is also higher. The music is enticing and suits the mood well, I still haven't gotten tired of the opening theme at game boot. But by far the most charming element of this installation is the story. The characters are more well-defined, and far more loveable than the previous installations. The humour is well-suited for an American audience, and the jokes are amusing on an adult level, though the game is appropriate for all ages. The only negative thing I have to say about 9 is the CG. They aren't nearly as long, or dramatic as the jaw-dropping scope of 8 or 7. However, the backgrounds are still masterfully set, and the overall excellence of the game gives me such a positive feeling that I don't mind the scaled down movies. If you like Final Fantasy, or just a good story, I highly recommend this must buy title.
Very good

Final Fantasy 9, the final chapter for The Sony Playstation One game sytem seens to have been lost. What happened? People continue to rave about Cloud and Tifa, Squall and Rinoa, but what happened to Zidane and Princess Garnet? For those who let this pass, you have missed an incredible game!
Some new ideas were introduced, such as "Active Time Events." With this idea, you can choose events to see what other characters are doing at the time. Also, the system of gaining abilties with weapons, armor, and accesories is a stroke of genious! This allows some nice character customization.
The characters make this game special. You almost get the feeling they are real-I'm serious. The story is not only well written, but almost mesmerizing. Don't worry, there is quite a bit of humor, too! Steiner and Zidane squabble like nuts.
The visuals are also very appealing, like jewels to the eyes. The cenematics will have you on the edge of your seat.
And finally, like all final fantasy games, the music is great! You'll probably find yourself searching the internet for midis like me.
Final Fantasy IX should never be forgotten.
So far its OK

From the vaults of the never ending Final Fantasy series comes yet another game, this one going back the roots by which this glorious series began. So far Final Fantasy IX is impressive, while not as enthralling as FFVII and not as graphically sound as FFVIII, it lies somewere in the middle. A good storyline, good graphics and great gameplay. I do however have a few problems so far. I am a big fan of the summon characters from both VII and VIII, I love the quality of graphics that VIII gave to the GF's, but in this game they are not up to par, and while I agree that sometimes the length of the GF movies got a little old after a while, I kind of miss seeing the summons at all. I am at least glad to see the anime-esque style of animation returning from FFVII and also glad to see the plot line return that was sorely missed from the VERY dissapoining FFVIII. I hope that the summons will play a larger part as the game continues, but if they do not, the game has enough pluses to keep me happy throughout my journey.
