1. ...If you love martial arts this is the game for you. When I played this game for the first time I was so amazed how each fighting techinique was shown. Yu Suzuki really out did himself. People who have patience to master Virtua Fighter 4 will definitly see their gaming skills grow.(This is a fact!)
2. The one thing that makes VF4 stand out amoung the rest is the A.I. Training Mode. You get create, that's right create, your own custom fighter and teach it new techiniques. Think of it as a giga pet kind of thing.
3. The graphics are one thing you should not take for granted in the game. Let's just say it's pretty.
4. Well, I hope you have enjoyed my review. All this was facts about the game. No opinions.
STILL the best fighting game ever

Virtua Fighter 4 is...
...about a million times better than its predecessors
...and the best next-gen fighting game
Obviously, the comparrison that seems to be made most is VF4 vs Tekken 4. Having played all the Tekken and Virtua Fighter games, I can honestly say that VF4 has made MUCH more of an improvment from VF3tb than Tekken 4 has made from Tekken 3 (or even Tekken Tag). Of course, that's useless for those who just want to know the qualities of the two games SO the following section will be devoted to that. Firstly, Tekken 4 is not a completely new and evolutionary game. Quite frankly, if you have one Tekken, you have them all. For the most part, the gameplay is identical (with the exception of a new nifty sidestepping system and Tekken Force mode). Virtua Fighter 4 is completely new (and might I add more realistic than Tekken 4). The fighting styles are actually TRUE to the orginals (for instance, Pai Chan's fighting style is freakishly identical to that of Ensei-ken) while Tekken's is not (most of them are made up styles and/or mixes of two styles). Although both have superb graphics, Virtua Fighter 4's stages are MUCH nicer than that of Tekken 4's. Many seem to argue that Tekken 4 has more storyline. That is somewhat true, but even Tekken's storyline stinks and most people don't buy a fighting game for its storyline (that's what RPGs are for). Many Tekken fanatics also argue the presence of the new Tekken Force mode. Let me tell you that VF4's Kumite mode is MUCH more entertaining than Tekken Force...and if you like the notion of beating up hordes of "bad guys" you should just buy Final Fight for the SNES...it'll save you lots of money. and Virtua Fighter 4.
For those of us who aren't comparing the two, I reccomend VF4 for the following reasons:
1.) The REAL martial arts simulation (yes, there is wrestling, but I don't see how that is a valid point...VF4 doesn't outrightly say that all there would be is martial arts)
2.) The graphics are superb
3.) The gameplay is amazing...the movement is realistic (unlike Dead or Alive) and not slow and forced (as Tekken is).
4.) The cost is unbeatable and finally...
5.) The game just rules. Enough said.
One star for every point giving it the highest rating of 5 stars! And believe me, VF4 deserves it. This game is definately one of my favorites.
VF4...Good but not Tekken

First off, let me say that I am an avid Tekken Tag player. It is probably my fav game of all time and I have spent much time mastering it. With that said: on to VF4. Everything about this game is is pretty good. The graphics are good (although I think they could be a little better) and the sound is good as well. The real winner here is the many technical moves and combos you can pull off with the characters. The shaolin monk and the drunk are the coolest characters to ever enter the fighting genre (with the exception of Lei from Tekken) The main problem I had with the game and the reason I only gave it 3 stars. (actually more like 3 1/2) is the button config./combo system. This is a real pain in... The fact that you have to hit an actual button to guard (instead of just holding back) is more of a pain than you can possibly imagine. And the combo system is very very very complicated and annoying.
So, if you can get past the annoying and complicated button config. then you got a fun game to play. It's a little to annoying for me, but I'm gonna keep playing it for a while and see if I can pick up on the config. a little better.
Good luck!
Yuck!

This game totally [stinks]. It's all jaggy and the controls are slow. There isn't even anything remotely close to a story behind it. In fact if it didn't have liner notes I wouldn't know why anyone fought. There aren't any movies at the end or anything. Basically there isn't any reason at all to play this game. Tekken tag and DOA2 are WAY better...
Another Cheap Fighter!

This game is extremely generic. Nothing like "Tekken Tag Tournament" or "Tekken 3". The fighters all have annoying cheesy lines before a fight. "Virtua FIghter 4" get's boring really fast. Save your money for a better fighter such as "Tekken Tag Tournament" or "Tekken 3".
So Boring,Its more painful than the fighting.

No wonder wwhy this game went to greatest hits so quick.Their are no story lines, confusing moves, and it is practically impossible to beat the game on Kumity mode. If you like fighting games, Get Tekken Games.

I consider my self an expert fighting game player, having played many generations of many different games. Although I like the look of the game, and the graphics were a great improvement. the game play was way to difficult for most players. In fact I feel
that the fighting engine is the biggest drawback in the game. Moves and combos are to difficult the execute. An engine with a simpler input interface like any of the Tekken games would have served this game well.
Great game, hard to execute attacks.

Virtua Fighter 4 is the first game that I have played in the series and it is an awesome game, but I think that the attacks are very hard to pull off and you would probably need a great deal of training to memorize the big attacks and when to use them. I would recommend this game to people who are good at pressing the right buttons quickly, cause if you don't press them fast enough, your character will not execute the desired attack.
Tekken comparisons miss the point

VF4 is a good game. Not a great game, not a so-so game, but a good game. Its strengths lie in its beautiful graphics, gorgreous fighting motion, elegant fighting executions and beautifully rendered backgrounds. As such, its probably one of the best player-vs-player games on the market. The style of gameplay is better suited to those who enjoy a more "play for fun" game than a "sit with rulebook and memorize the moves then eliminate your opponent" game.
This said, VF4 lacks any real excitement in the player-vs-computer area. No CGI movie "rewards" for beating the game; no plot or storyline unless you read the rulebook. Add to that the repetitive nature of the arcade mode (advancing towards the end you will always encounter the same characters at the same skill levels in a set order), and the trivial rewards for the kumite mode (new clothing accessories and colors for existing costumes, but no new ones), and VF4 is more than a little disappointing as a one player game.
People comparing it to Tekken are basically comparing apples to oranges; this is a quieter, more elegant game than Tekken, and doesn't try to compete on the same button mashing level as the more popular fighter. VF4 is ballet, Tekken is hip-hop. Both are good, but not always suited for everyone.
The uncontested greatest fighting game of all time.

I have always been a VF fan, but i never thought it could be as good as Tekken. Now, I gladly trade the entire Tekken series for this one masterpiece of a fighting game. Those of you who say the gameplay is too simple clearly aren't getting the complete idea of how many fighting moves you can get out of combining those three different buttons. Those of you who say there aren't enough modes should play more Kumite. I can understand some hardcore gamers who beat the Kumite mode in a few weeks, but for those of you who havent gone into that, you really should. You have to win over a thousand matches to even get a chance to fight Dural, who is the unlockable character. Kumite also brings the most fun aspect i have seen in a fighting game: customizable characters. Finally, for those of you who want more endings, I have a word of advice for you: go into RPG's. A fighting game like Tekken 4 that tries to make up for their below par controls with flashy endings,(and i have seen all those Tekken 4 endings for any of you who wonder) will never be as good as a fighter that turns toward the gameplay before they even think about some storyline endings. I would gladly trade the entire Tekken series for this fighting game so carefully crafted and so utterly addicting.
