i normally dislike driving games, and never bothered to play gt2, but here's why i give this one a top rating. i enjoy driving (and an occassional drag race) in a fast car and am the only gal i know who subscribes to motor trend. i can appreciate the time they put into making the gt3 cars behave a lot like the actual models and even have the actual production colors for them. they really did a good job; i was surprised to see that the cars didnt all drive pretty much the same. secondly, i can never afford to buy custom parts for my cars in real life, so i get to live vicariously thru this game. since i also *love* shopping, how can i not have fun looking for parts or even a new car? despite what anyone says, the shopping is really the best part. since there is no such thing as a shopping genre game, this is the closet im gonna get to one. i am having a blast on the licensing courses as well. however, i still think gt3 is far from being a realistic simulation of driving, and i dont always enjoy the racing. best redeeming quality: shopping!!! but shopping ain't cheap. ...now, is there a cheat code for unlimited funds or a platinum visa card? do tell!

I am an avid racing game fan, always searching for the better car racing game. I want real honest to goodness cars, fast driving, realistic handling, and top-notch realistic graphics. Each game seems to pick one category. GT3 has them all. The selection of cars seems unlimited. Each car is unique. The speed and handling of each car is different ... a testament to the detail put into the realistic physics of each car and how it drives. Ofcourse the graphics are amazing. This is the ONE racing game to own on the PS2. Very addictive and very impressive.
Quite possibly the best racer ever

Stellar gameplay is what catapulted this series to prominence, and GT3 harnesses the PS2's additional horsepower to deliver thrilling, challenging races. The realism and depth of even the Arcade races mean GT3 is definitely suited for serious drivers only. GT2's lineup of street and off-road courses is joined by two new tracks: a cool downtown Tokyo circuit and the renowned Grand Prix course at Monte Carlo. While the car lineup is smaller than GT2's, it's still vast, offering everything from Dodge Vipers to Cooper Minis. It's a shame that more European exotic cars like Ferraris didn't make the lineup, though. However, GT3's much-vaunted A.I. isn't quite the revolution it was touted to be. Sure, the cars no longer robotically follow the same racing line and they'll occasionally sideswipe you, which are great improvements. But the changes amount to nice tuning, rather than the promised new experience. The off-road rally racing has been greatly improved, though, offering a much more playable, enjoyable ride. It's a lot like playing Colin McRae Rally 2.0-the action is that sweet. But GT3 isn't perfect. The races could really use more cars on the track; depending on the circuit, you'll face between one and five opponents. More importantly, the total absence of wrecks and damage to the cars makes such a highly realistic experience ring false at times. These nagging flaws have persisted since the first GT, so rather than being surprising, it's more of a shame that they weren't addressed. The GT series has a huge worldwide fan base, and GT3 measures up to those high expectations with style and depth. If you're into racing at all, this instant classic is simply a must-own game.

This game ROCKS. Despite what other writers might think about this game, i believe this game rules. Its kinda like a strategy game in ways, you half to decide what car is gonna be good for what track & what race. For example: if you bring a 200hp car int a grand Turismo all star race, you are gonna get killed. best hint i could give, buy the MUSTANG & put all the horsepower in it as you can & go to endurance & win the super speedway race & you will recieve the F090. this car is an F1 car & will win every race for you. i believe this game is the best Driving simulator for any platform.

The day that I saw GT3 on the store shelf, I bought it along with a ps2 to play it. Anyway this game has many more cars than the previous titles in this series, and it's the debut game for the series on the ps2 as well. The cars have been rendered very nicely, the backgrounds are wonderfully done, and the soundtrack is alright (could've been better), but who buys a game for the soundtrack? The physics of the cars have been engineered to be a little more realistic, and every car is unique in it's own way. The acceleration, braking, handling, and drivetrains are all different on every car, so no two cars are alike. GT3 is a little more difficult than GT2 in the way that you don't get as much money for winning races, you have to wash your car and change the oil as well in order to keep you car in tip top shape, unless you want to suffer the consequences. Another great new touch to the series is the addition of F1 cars, and dirt rallys, both of them very exciting.
Overall it's a great game, and a wonderful improvement to the series, my only complaint is the lack of a few cars such as Firebird, Ferarri, Lamborghini, and very few cars to choose from that are from earlier years such as the 60's, 70's, and 80's. However don't let any of that stop you from getting the game. This is definately the best reality based racing game out there.
Hot game, Must-buy!

This game has truly photo-realistic graphics and additionally, the replays of the areas are incredible. The game even permits one to save replays. The cars in this game are absolutely incredible, and unlike other games, you are not limited to some specific models with similar designs. Additionally, the selection of cars is absolutely phenomenol. My best cars for this game are the Jaguar XJ220, the GT-ONE Road Car, the infamous rally car Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak Version and the Corvette C-5R. My favorite car, however, has to be the 2000 Beetle Cup, but the handling is clumsy and sometimes forced, like a Beetle. The scenery is incredible! I absolutely love the Tokyo tracks and the Rome track for the views of the city. I additionally love the rally tracks around Tahiti and the wet tracks of Tokyo. The last note for this game is the game becomes very difficult on the Professional Level. For example, on the Red Emblem level, you are forced to drive a ROAD car, and you are forced to compete against six other RACE cars (in other words, much better and faster cars than yours). One of the major disappointments for this game is that there is no crash damage, like NASCAR Thunder, Sprint Cars: World of Outlaws or the incoming Pro Race Driver. The second and last disappointment is that in mutiplayer, especially two-player, one doesn't face computer cars as well, as in NASCAR Thunder. However, Codemasters' Pro Race Driver may resolve that issue. Other than that, buy this game if you are a racing freak or just a freak!

Ok, to start off this game is really awsome! It features THE best graphics that I have ever seen in my entire life. The visuals are just absolutly breathtaking! Also, this game is the best racing game of all time. It includes real life physics, excellent AI, and of course lots and lots of real life racing cars! Prehaps the only drawback to this game is the fact that there are no crash effects, so your car never gets damaged. If you really would like to show off the power of your Playstation 2, then just pop this game in and you will be amazed.
A Definite Winner

I just purchased PlayStation 2, after owning PS1 for 4 years. There is a huge selection of games for the PS2. There's Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto 3, and many more awesome titles out there. However...the FIRST game I wanted with PS2 was Gran Turismo 3.
Anyone who's played Gran Turismo 1 or 2 knows what I'm talking about. You'll end up glued to the TV screen for hours and HOURS on end trying to master cars, and beat the many races that GT3 offers. It's TRUE excitement. Probably one of the only games where playing against the computer can get you so pumped.
The graphics are awesome. The sound is good, and the rumble pack controller shakes when your riding on rough ground, or hit the brakes to hard. Your also in control of how much gas you give your car, with the pressure sensitive buttons.
The ONLY, and I emphasize ONLY, negative to this game is the lack of tracks. There's a limited amount of tracks as there were in GT1 and GT2. I'm over it. The game play awesome, and you WILL be very satisfied with this game.
Warning: Could produce extreme couch patoto syndrome, and fixation with beating some computer controlled car who you now call "that moron I need to beat."
GT3 Rocks!

What can I say, this is the most realistic driving game ever with realistic car physics, realistic graphics and very detailed courses, some of cities like Seattle and Tokyo with famous landmarks. And, if you want to beat the game fully, it's going to take you a long time. That's one of the problems of the game. Some of the races (endurances) take over 2 hours to complete making the game become very tedious. Also that there are only about 20 courses for several hundred races, the game becomes very boring. But, there are over one hundred cars in the game which adds a lot of replay value to the game. This is the best game for the PS2 so far, and definitly worth buying for anyone the least bit interested in racing games.
