This is by far the best driving game I've played in years. I've been playing the Japanese version of GT3 for several weeks now, and I must have logged over 100 hours of play with no boredom setting in. Graphics are jaw-dropping, car physics feel just about right, and there are a lot of courses and cars to choose from. Addition of GT Force Feedback wheel is, IMHO, a must since it's really tough to drive well with DualShock2 controller. If you have the extra [money] to spend, you won't regret getting the wheel controller!

I JUST GOT THE GAME TODAY AND... THIS IS THE GREATEST GAME IN ITS GENRE. THE GRAPHICS ARE SO MUCH IMPROVED FROM THE 1ST 2 GRAN TURISMOS, U CAN SEE GREAT DETAILS OF THE CARS AND THE BACKGROUND IS GREAT.
IF U LIKED THE 1ST 2 GRAN TURISMOS U WILL CERTAINLY LOVE THIS GAME. I DON'T KNOW HOW SOMEONE COULD OWN A PLAYSTATION 2 WITH OUT OWNING THIS GAME. THIS IS A MUST BUY FOR ANY RACING GAME FAN, ACTUALLY THIS IS A MUST BUY FOR ANY KIND OF GAMER!!

Being a huge fan of the RR/NFS series back in the day, GT1 was just plain awfull to me. I just couldnt get used to the controls. I soon learned b/c of my love for cars and later bought GT2. GT2 was the best racer I ever played, and my love for the series turned into a passion. I preordered my Ps2 strictly for the GT series(now I cant wait for alot of games) and eagerly awaited GT2000(a supped up GT2). Dissapointed that the game was delayed, I was soon delighted it was changing to GT3(a full blown sequell). I have now had the import of GT3 for several months, and despite the language barrier, this game is arguably the best racer any system will see for a long time(until GT4). The physics/precision and just sheer beauty of this game is an experience no gamer should miss. If you havent played the GT series you are in for a treat with this game, giving you something fresh and new. For fans of the Gt series, you are being treated with the many years of experience Polyphony Digital has with the next evolution of the series(GT3). This game is a must have, and a testament to the emerging power of the PS2.

I gave four and half star for this game previously but decided to change to 5 stars. Personally, I couldn't really get into first two Grand Turismo games for PS, and honestly I didn't have much of high expectation for this very game for PS2. I was pleasantly surprised with awesome intro with intuitive music(import version-in fact, I watch intro till the end every time I turn on the game) and crispy clear graphic. But every one knows that this game's reason for its popularity comes from its realism, utterly realistic. I couldn't really get into first two games but really enjoyed Tokyo Extreme Racer one and two. I liked the idea of racing against numerous rivals with unique game play where you have to drive through traffic. The only complain I had with GT3 is that AI wasn't up to the level I have experienced in Tokyo Extreme Racer where some AI is so good that you really DO get frustrated. Anyway, as I'm completing this game more and more, I came to realize that I have no choice but give this game 5 stars because it really does deserve it. When there aren't that many quality PS2 games you can find these days (well, it's beginning to come one by one), this is the game you shouldn't miss. Oh, and if you can afford ForceFeedback Wheel from Logitech, get it by all mean and you won't be disappointed because it will raise the standard and game play to whole new level
WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO This is one great sim!

(NEW REVIEW)> Ok I'm updating my review now the game is out and I have tried it. Here it is: Ok ok, sure there may not be as many cars as before but of course theirs a reason. Time. Each car is built of around 4,000 polys and takes 2 weeks to complete. In Gran Turismo 2 it took very little time to complete each car. GT3 had already been delayed around 4 times so would you want to wait any longer? I think that 160 cars is a damn fine amount.
Ok first Graphics. What can I say? They are wonderful. This game has the most realistic lighting and reflecting I have ever seen in a PS2 game, or PC game. The cars near photo realism. Trees and other objects reflect off of your car in real time! No more pre-done reflections. The sun can affect your driving too, just like in real life. Its blinding. In rally modes, dust from the other car billows off the road, coming from all four tires. The dust doesnt dissapear right away, or stay coming up only a certain distance away from the car, it stays floating there for a while, like in real life. If you drive through the dust, dont expect to see much.
Now the game play. Very good aswell! Set aside some time for this game because it will take some time to beat. Many many many races to complete, and secret cars to earn. Custom up your cars to make them faster and perform better. Wash your car to improve aerodynamics, change the oil to make it run better. Buy new suspension, turbos, intercoolers, brakes, gearboxes, wheels, weight reduction and more! But cars from, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, VW, Audi, RUF, Ford, BMW, Jaguar, Pagani and much more. Secret cars include a Diablo GT, F094/H F1 car, F688/S F1 car and a F094/S F1 car.
Some cool extras in the game include I.Link racing, 3 screen view 1 player racing and the ability to use a steering wheel. The soundtrack is fairly good as well with music from Goldfinger and Snoop Dogg.
This is the current must have for PS2.
(OLD REVIEW)> I don't see how ANYBODY could hate this game! I dont own it but I got to see it being played when a employee from Game Spy brought it in to an Electronics Boutique I was at. The opening starting. I was thinking that the filming of this car was great. That is, untill the employee told us that this is rendered footage. I said "Whoah. It is? Its so shiny!" Then the car drove out and I could see that it was in game footage. I was blown away. The man who was lucky enough to play it started the level and started driving. Wooo hoo it was a thrill just to watch! The graphics were so good it made me crap my pants. Actually not really, but it was still really cool! This game is the most realistic sim out there. The employee said that he knows a man who races cars and he tested this game out with a wheel and said that it was extremely realistic. Polyphony Digital also gave the game some cool extras, like the ability to use 3 tvs and 3 ps2s. you hook them up with i.link. One in front, one on the right and one on the left. THAS COOl. Each car is made up of 2000 to 4000 polys and they are very detailed. "Working mirrors and move brake calipers." -PSM This game will be the must by of the year. The reason why they did not make more cars is becuase in GT2 they could make car models in VERY VERY little time. In GT3 it took around a week or so to make each car model.
Another thing...I think that to acheive best picture quality possible you should buy either a monster 200 regular av cable or a monster 300 s-video cable OR a monster 400 component video cable.

GT3 (a.k.a.Gran Turismo 3) is a real life game.Myself, I like racing games or anything with guns.In GT3 your driving skill are all that matter. Most other racing games have objectives like getting coins or something like that (SuperRunAbout San Franscico). Not GT3 all you do is race and race for newer and better cars.If you liked GT2 like i did you will LOVE GT3.I can ganurentee you that GT3 will be a competiver for first place on the Best Games Chart!

You should know the story by now - buy a car from the showroom, race it, and if you're good you can win money to modify your car to make it faster/perform better or buy new cars. And so on and so forth....
The graphics are the main change you will notice over previous versions on the PS1 - GT3 on the PS2 simply blows them away and you'll be left in amazement. Frame speed is a constant 60fps, the motion looks so real I was convinced I was watching a race on TV. The graphics are incredibly detailed - each car is made up of around 3000 to 4000 polygons compared to 300 in GT2. On my 28 inch TV I couldn't see the polygons at all, it was as though I had a perfectly molded model of the car on screen. The look of the tracks has been enhanced as well - it all adds to create a very realistic environment for racing.
There's lots of little touches which make the game so special - hit the traffic cones and they scatter over the track; brake lights in the wet have that diffuse glow you see when the air is damp; brake discs glow when you brake hard into a corner; headlights actually look like they are shining rather than just fill them in with a bright white color; I could go on forever.
Just for fun, I switched onto GT2 after playign GT3 for a while. Ugh! Blocky, jerky graphics, I had to turn off after not even 1 minute of driving as it was giving me a headache. Comparing to Ridge Racer V on the PS2, GT3 still has the edge over it - faster and more detailed. The lighting in GT3 is more realistic too - check out the sunlight shining through the trees on Deep Forest, and the dusk/sunset lighting on Seattle. Furthermore, I like the fact the GT series uses real world cars I can relate to.
The interface to buy cars, go racing and modify your car is much improved over the awful system in GT2 - all the races are in one area, all the car manufacturers are in one area, etc. If you need to modify your car, you just go to the "Tune Shop" - no need to go through the manufacturer. Much simpler. There's less cars available in GT3 compared to GT2, it took so much longer for the development team to model each car in GT2 so they simply didn't have enough time apparently. Some new cars have been added, some removed and some old favourites remain. But I think for the most part, you will find a car that takes your fancy. All the tracks are there as far as I remember, plus a few new ones.
Sound is a little disappointing when you consider the leaps and bounds the graphics have come on - the cars still don't sound as good much as you expect, even when modified. Don't get me wrong, they sound good, but given the neat touches in the graphics department, I'd really like to hear the exhaust popping and burbling more on some of my cars.
Gameplay is great as with GT1 and 2, even improved in places where the car handling is concerned, it feels more real than ever. The gravel traps slow you down more and you can't just bounce off the barriers in GT3, you really get buried in them (even though damage isn't sustained - see below).
The biggest, if not the only downside is that we still can't damage or wreck our little toys. Maybe one day! It's a bit rich that the "Real Driving Simulator" allows us to crash head-on into a barrier at 180mph and ram our opponents like it's Destruction Derby, and yet the cars still cross the finish line in mint showroom condition.
Overall, it's the best game I have played/seen in a long time, it will have you hooked in no time. The PS2 has been getting criticised lately because the games weren't *that* great, well this ought to silence the critics... (I own the Japanese version by the way, but I don't think there will be any difference with the US/European release other than perhaps the soundtracks).
Well worth it - with some guidance! The game ROCKS!!

For the very few who don't like to put a little effort into their games (or aren't coordinated) this game should be passed up. However, for those that enjoy a challenge, and the rush you feel once you accomplish that challenge - this one's for you! Absolutely the best racing simulation EVER!
Be sure to read some of the hints, tips, and recommendations...and you'll have no problem taking on GT3 A-Spec. The license tests are a great training ground - and when you get to the point of winning some awesome racing cars, you'll just flip! Have patience, save your money up for some terrific upgrades, and crush the competition!
I just wish I had more than 5 stars to give to this one!
