Gran Turismo 3 does live up to all graphical standards and fully utilizes the power of the PS2. If you own the version of EA's Nascar for PS2, GT3 will make you want to take your EA disc and smash it into pieces, or pull out your old Daisy and pop a pellet and shatter that game. Being a former game developer I do give GT3 5 stars. It was well worth the wait. A lot of game developers will rush a game to the market and time it's release to compete with other titles. Thereby, the games are released with unresolved "bugs". With GT3 a lot more pride was taken. It is quite evident that they did not rush this title.

I have been waiting for this game for months. I went out and got it today and it was worth the wait and every penny. The graphics are phenomenal! The licenses are a little harder to get, but there are so many more options that its fun to keep trying. If you loved Tursimo 2, you will be addicted to 3. There are no used cars to choose from so you have to start with practically no money and a wimpy car, but thats the fun of it right? Don't spend a minute thinking about it, BUY IT! The only problem I have is I had to take a break because my thumb hurt because the buttons are pressure sensitive!
BEST RACING GAME EVER!!

I just got this game July 11th 2001, and believe me folks this game simply rocks. Graphics are amazingly realistic and very dramatic. If you love racing and cars specially sports cars You'll fall in love with this game. After I race I simply watch the replay and enjoy the spectacular view and georgeus cars rip thru corners at blazing speed.I don't think I will ever get sick of this game.Higly recommended

My father-in-law who lives next door just picked this game up today (7/11/01).. I got a chance to play it tonight for about 30 minutes. I have played the first two versions many times. How good is GT3? Well, I plan to buy a PS2 tomorrow just so I can play this game. Never have I seen graphics so realistic. The replays look like filmed videos, texture rendering is flawless and the cars look great. Hang on to your seatbelts, this is gonna be a great ride!
pretty good, but....

First of all, let me just say that this is a good game. Its a lot of fun even though I'm not very far yet and have only driven a coupl eof the cars. But, this game does have a couple of flaws:
1. There are way too few cars. For whatever reason the number of cars has greatly diminished compared to GT2. Not only that, but there is less variety. Instead of putting in different cars they put in a bunch of different types of the same car. There are like 6 Lancer Evolutions and no Honda Prelude, for example.
2. There are only 2 possible camera angles you can use while playing the game. The in car angle is Ok, but you cannot see the front of your car which is kind of weird. The other angle is bad because your car blocks your view of the track ahead of you making it hard to drive. I liked the farthest zoom out angle in GT2 but it has been eliminated in GT3.
Other than that its a pretty good game and i definitely well worth the $$$.
VERY close to perfection....

I own the Japanese version of GT3 and got it right when it came out. So after about two months of playing it, I have a very good grasp of the ups and downs of this game. I am very picky with games, so it is very hard for me to give away 5 stars, and this game deserves it.
The UPS - 1) Graphics, enough said. This game just looks awesome with a S-video cable. Heat effects has been rendered in some circuits and are very much visible in the replays. The car models look highly realistic, the lighting of the sun and the shadows were remarkably done; the attention to details by Sony will amaze you. I am not biased, but this is the best looking race game up to date, period. 2) i-Link battle mode. Full arcade action available; maybe it's a marketing ploy, but hooking up two PS2s with an i-Link cable on two TVs is a guaranteed fun, I got hooked after trying it once. No more puny split-screens, but rather arcade-like action in your house, provided u have two TVs. 3)vastly-improved engine. Forget about what others said, if they say this engine [is bad], then they have not played this game long enough or deep enough. Again, I have to mention - details. Rain causes your car to slip; Condition of tires in duration race affects your handling; the different 'feel' for 4WD, FR, and MR cars is evident; tune-ups are much more evident than in GT2 - lowering your car makes it crisper at turns, and tightening the brakes can be a disaster at turns. It's the little things that matters and that which makes this game more realistic. 4) AI. Yes, the AI has improved, the computer will take revenge on you if you bump them, and they behave more like human players. Although like in GT2, the cars still travel in packs, but the AI does make mistakes now (which makes this game more unpredictable), and they do compete with each other. It is better, and that is a plus (though it still can't match playing with other humans). 5) The classic gameplay. The infamous gameplay that got so many hooked is back. License tests, GT simulation mode, and of course, rally races.
The DOWNs - 1)Music. This is more of a personal taste, but I am not too fond of the funk style in some tracks. 2) Too much [foreign] cars. This is just crazy, hope they add more cars in the US version. 3)Not enough exotic cars. Once in a while, I would like to race in a Ferrari after I earn enough cash from my races, but oh well...
This is a very well done game. Details, details, details. It's the little things that set this game apart from all the other racing games out there. If you are more of a regular sedan racer than an exotic car racer, or if you like the attention to details while still making the game fun, then grab this game, you won't regret it.
Great fun But...

As much as i love this game it still lacks. It seems sony rushed this title out a little. The graphics engine is in great need of a remodeling and thay cut down on some of the cars. They should also look at signing new exotic car companies like Ferrari and Lamborgini. Its still a fun game, I just hope sony puts alittle more time into gameplay than graphics. Peace
GT3 ROCKS! Nothing is the racing field comes close!

....And while recent releases like Twisted Metal Black,Onimusha:Warlords and NBA Street have managed to change the minds of countless individuals, The game that will undoubtedly make the largest impact and win over even the most cynical of doubters is Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo 3 A-spec. I simply love GT3 and dont think there is another racing game that comes close to in anyway, the Detail,"Feel",Variety of cars and over all Greatness! This is a must own game for any racing fan,and is a true testament to the power of the Playstation 2 and is without a doubt the systems best game!Enjoy!
