Square really went creative with this one! Spoilers!

The story is not complex and involving as VII; and its world design isn't as intricate and avant-garde as IX; and the characters are not riveting as VI; and the system isn't as open as VIII & VII; and the music isn't as well arranged as IV, V, and VI (definitely the peaks of Final Fantasy music). But in my opinion this is one of Square/Enix's best efforts. The whole feel of the game is just wonderful. It felt like a real adventure. It didn't focus too much on the characters as it did on the story, but that's all right with me. The setting style was the most inventive from Square yet. I'm glad they got out of their European Medieval or futuristic style and went for a more Oriental based world (something up their alley since the creators are in Japan). And yes there is little room for exploration till the end, but that doesn't wreck the experience because using the Sphere Grid was exploration in itself and every place you visit in Spira is a sight to behold.
To really get an idea of the many ideas that Square/Enix put into this game look up South-east Asian architecture. And read up on Buddhism and Shinto since some ideas from them are reflected in the game (Warning HINT/SPOILER for the ending/think of the idea of Nirvana/fading out and release from the illusion of Mara/Fayths&Zanarkand. Square went into some things when they made this game) There's so much to think and talk about. Also check out Wheel of the Infinite by Martha Wells (it's a novel that in some ways remind me of this game:the setting, ideas of never-ending cycles, powerful beings, characters with sad pasts, it's a great read). And also check out the FFX soundtrack (it's so mellow and peaceful to counter the sadness of the game).
And last warning: this game is very tragic, but it is beautiful.

BEST DARN GOOD RPG GAME EVERY IN HISTORY!!!

After the disappointments of FF8 and FF9, FFX is a nice breath of fresh air into the franchise. It's levelling system (specifically the sphere grid) is a bit obtuse at times but it allows you a rather nice control over how each character developes over time. The mini-games are addictive once you get the hang of them, though Blitzball isn't for everyone. As always, the plot and visuals are wonderful, and I like how they changed the battle system. It really lends itself to strategy now.

Hmm... Cons would be that there is no japanese voice track, and the first fourty hours of gameplay, roughly, are basically one huge tutorial. If you can slog through that, and you're a die-hard RPG fan, I think you'll find this game is DEFINITELY worth your money.

Good Game..

Evidently the others werent the FINAL Fantasy.. But oh well. This is a good game, moving. I felt as if I was in the story, which is truely good. A Blitzball player named Tidus is thrown 1000 years in the future, in a time of chaos. His newfound friends, Yuna, Wakka, Lulu, Rikku, Kimarhi, and Auron help him through the world of Spira, on a quest to stop a powerful force called Sin, and to find his true self.

Dont hesitate to buy this one.

aaahhhhh

Final Fantasy...its a rather controvertial video game series. Its acheived immense acceptance in the entertainment world, both in the US, Japan, and many other places. Its controvertial however, for the reason one other reviewer here said, its never good enough for some. Final Fantasy changes with every game, each one is an almost completely different game, which is a constant gamble. Sure, Squaresoft has through the previous years, shamlessly become rather egotistical, but their failure with the Final Fantasy movie may have knocked some much needed sense into them, and this game is a damn good step in the right direction. Sorry for my ranting, but anyways, so many people I've spoken to, were dead set on thinking that this Final Fantasy would be terrible. And now, pretty much all of them have fallen for this game. Show's the "rock solid" personality's of so many gamers...but thats another story. This game really is, in many ways, a mystical journey. With its largely ocean centered setting, its mystical Okinawan world with temples, chants, religions, culture and style, and the very spiritual like story makes this a very unique, almost foreign and exotic journey to Final Fantasy players used to either hardcore fantasy, or fantasy sci-fi mix worlds. All the classic Final Fantasy elements are there, an airship, a varied party, summoned monsters, unique fighting, and as recently, technology mixed with fantasy, but its all done so exoticly in this. Its truly a journey unlike many I've been through in video games, or anything for a long time now.
Aside from the unique world, without giving away the story, I'll say that its very spiritual. Its one of those mystical feeling plots that really make you think and feel, which is even more helped by the fantastic character interaction thanks to voices. Story wise, its a trip. Game wise, its very linear, which many, including myself were positive would be a very bad thing. In other words, there is no overworld, its one constant course (some places however, are very large, and have multiple paths. And when you get the airship later, there are quite a few secret area's for you to explore) With the breathtaking story that flows wonderfully, its actually not a bad thing really. You almost never notice it at one point. While its a trend that shouldn't be the mainstay of Final Fantasy from here on, its a good departure for this, as it makes the story seem to flow like the ocean it takes place in.
The Battle system is, in my opinion, bar none the best in the entire series. I don't care what anyone says, it beats even FF6's, FF7's, all of those. There's just so much room to customize your character, but at the same time each character has their own strengths and weaknesses no matter what, as well as unique limit breaks making each character equally worthwhile. Whats so great about the leveling system is that its actually very fun. No matter what FF game it was ,it always got a little tedious building up your characters, but not with this game. The Sphere board system is genius, it really makes you eager to want to build up your character your way, and see if the character comes out the way you want it to. The leveling is a game in itself. Those who enjoy its merits, enjoy the fruits of their labor in droves (My Tidus by the end of the game was doing 30500 + Damage EVERY turn, and thats without counting quick hit and his limit breaks. I won't go into how badass the others were as well...except maybe Kimari, I messed up on him. ^_^;)Also, a rather simple, yet revolutionary for FF option is there, the option to switch your characters in and out of battles right during them. This is the single greatest strength the battle system has, and an option I pray will make it to future FF's. Add the mystical, exotic journey of a story, the great battle system thats actually fun, the fantastic characters that each scream with personality, the actually very good voice acting (And actually, I perfer Auron's English voice to his Japanese VA, a VERY rare thing to happen), and a really good mini game and lots of extra's and you've got quite a journey on your hands. I know for a fact, there will still be some close minded gamers who will not like this title due to the linearity, folks don't listen to them, judge for yourself. If you don't like it, its cool, but its something everyone should try out at least once. And so far, from the reviews I see here the results are worth it. Its just one of those titles you can only judge yourself.

THIS IS A SURVEY OF THE GAME

So I decided to put this down as a survey to see who has bought or will buy this game and who's not sure or won't buy it. PLEASE SAY THAT THIS REVIEW WAS NOT HELPFUL IT YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BUY IT/ OR ARE NOT SURE. PLEASE SAY THIS REVIEW WAS HELPFUL IF YOU HAVE ALREADY OR WILL BUY THIS GAME. THANK YOU

Best story ever on a Final Fantasy game

I love the story, the minigames everything! Blitzball was a grand addition. I wish people would concentrate more on the story and gameplay rather than if the main character whined or not. Look at how many people gave it 5 stars compared to how many gave it 1 star. Go rent the game before you trust anybody's judgement. Don't even trust mine yet.

Here are the ratings I'd give;

Play Control- 9.0/10
Since Squaresoft made a slightly different system this
time, it might be hard to understand it at first, but there were some great improvements.

Graphics- 10.0/10
This game shows PS2's mighty power to make fine graphics.

Story- 10.0/10
As I said. It has the best story of any Final Fantasy game.

Satisfaction- 9.5/10

Game Design- 11.0/10

A True Masterpiece!

Many people over the years have complained that the Final Fantasy series does not live up to the hype. I don't believe that. The hype usually revolves around the graphics, storyline, or characters. I believe they have lived up to this on each occasion. Another complaint is the battle system. I like discovering a new battle system every game, it helps keep a fresh new series, and also identifies each story with a system. While overall 4 and 9 are my favorites, I have just scratched the surface of 10, and it looks like this will easily surpass as my new favorite. FF 8 is also one of my favorites, once i got used to the system, the game flowed naturally and the story evolved into a true epic. I believe the epic story will once again evolve out of 10, and be truly unforgettable. Kudos to Squaresoft.
