I had to fight to get this game in a crowded [store] four days before christmas, but it's been worth it...in about 3 days I've put in about 27 and a half hours. No I'm not a geek, but I just love these games. I have to say that I played the first eleven hours without the strategy guide, and even when I did get it, I found out I hadn't missed much. I am actually a bit apprehensive about when I can go and explore around b/c it looks REALLY hard to get some of the good stuff. For example: dodge lightning 200 consectutive times and you get a PART of someone's ultimate weapon...it's goin to be a long game, and I've died a bunch of times already. But ya know what? It's still one of the coolest games I've ever played. Definitely buy this one...don't rent it...blockbuster shouldn't even carry this game to rent b/c you can't finish it in five days unless you play 20 hours a day...but like I said...well worth the wait...pick it up!

best one i ever played

I got this game a couple of days ago and I've been playing it since. While this game is visually spectacular, it seems to be a little bit weak on game play (ex: long-winded transitions and awkward battles). Some character dialogues are cheesy and childish, and downright irritating during some portions of the game, but the storyline is pretty good. Even with its flaws, I would have to say that this game is still one of the best RPG games for PS2.

Final Fantasy X will have the same impact on the PlayStation 2 as Final Fantasy VII did with the PlayStation. It's the type of game that will sell systems, very much along the same line as Gran Turismo 3 and Metal Gear Solid 2.

Gameplay: Many welcomed changes with this latest installment. Three are most notable: party & equipment switching during battles, new battle system. and the sphere grid system.

That's right, you can switch characters during battles. If one character is dying, just switch out. This is very helpful when leveling up your party, and when fighting monsters w/ specific weaknesses. Also, you may switch weapons or armor during the battle. If you are fighting a boss that is weak against thunder, you can switch to a lightning sword and use it in battle.

Battles no longer require you to wait until the battle gauge is filled. In fact, you can foresee when enemies will attack you, and when you will attack them. Great use of strategy here...

Square has done away with the level up system, and instead, you can use a grid to advance your stats. Much easier to play than to explain. But you can have two characters share the same abilities when paths cross on the grid. This systems allows more replayability for FFX.

Graphics: They're gorgeous. Many different settings, some more beautiful and colorful than other gaming systems. Also, Aeons (formerly the Guardians) have some wonderful animation sequences

Voices: Auron's voice actor is spectacular. It's unfortunate that the "weak" point is the lead roles of Tidus and Yuna. Not a huge deal, but they're not as compelling as the others.

This is a must buy if you're a big RPG fan. If you're not, you might want to rent it before considering the purchase.

Final Fantasy X...When is Square's fantasy ever final??

I say this, being of sound mind and in possession of every single Final Fantasy game for Playstation and Playstation 2, yes I know that is disturbing, Final Fantasy X is one of the best Final Fantasies. It's about time that Square added voices to the Final Fantasy games, being that other companies were doing it in their Playstation 1 RPGs. My only problem is at times the voices aren't well done. They sound like middle school or high school actors just learning the craft (trust me I know). That and Titus has a tendency to whine like a little spoiled brat. The best of the voices comes from Rikku as she actually sounds like she isn't just reading lines. The graphics are very nice, reminiscent of FF8 only better. The music, as is always the case, sounds like some of it was extracted from the other FF games. I'm not talking about the FF theme and the prelude. I'm talking Aeris's theme and the theme to Guru Volcano (The First Final Fantasy). But with so many games and so much music a lot of it starts sounding like each other. The story is somewhat more original and it seems to deviate from the giant meteor, or evil empire, or the evil magic user. All of the first 9 FFs should fit into those catagories by the way. You get to fight Sin in this one. That's right Sin. All I can tell is that it is this giant sphere-like thing (like the movie Sphere) that just sucks everything up like a giant vacuum. Though the real creature is inside the sphere but I won't give that away. The story is also filled with massive amounts of religious and polictical connotations. This reminds me of FF Tactics or XenoGears. It is not a bad thing. If games have religion in them perhaps it can help strengthen faiths of the players. If children can 'become' violent because of video games maybe they can become more spiriual/religious as well. One can hope right??? The only problem is that the story is very adult. And thus being adult it may not be suitable for younger players. My recommended minimum age is 15. Under no circumstances should anyone younger play this game. Players have complained that the Final Fantasy games are too kiddie, well now they are getting there wish...and apparently they are now complaining it is too adult. If I had one to chose it would be adult. The story is always better as it can have more substance. This is another great thing about the game. It is filled with story, and again people complain. No story, too much story, stop complaining and play the game. I have always figured that people who find a Final Fantasy with too much story are expecting an action or adventure game. I hate to tell you this but RPG are supposed to have stories. Sorry to break it to you. Anyway, I like FFX. Not that my opinion matters to some but still I like it. It hopefully shows that Squares games for the PS2 will turn around and become better. But wait I haven't talked about the battle system yet, silly me. Gone is ATB, and the peasants rejoiced. The battles are about as real time as they are going to get. Instead of a charge gauge everyone has a turn in the battle line-up. You would think that you have to wait until everything happens but this is not the case. Creatures don't attack simultaniously but you can get the battle moving quickly (almost life-like) by just having everyone attack as fast as they can. That's much better than waiting for a stupid little gauge to fill up. Another nice touch is that you can sub people in during the battle. Since EXP has been done away with if a character acts in a battle they get AP. AP acts like EXP but it works differetly. You get a certain number of AP and your skill level goes up allowing you to learn new skills on the skill gird provided you have skill orbs. That is how you power up your characters...through this skill grid. This grid must have more than 500 additions on it so "leveling up" may take longer than expected. But it's worth it to be able to have more than 9999 HPs, 999 MPs, and way over 9999 points of damage. I do say that I hate the ending. less than 20 minutes for a 40 hour game, the ending is too short. Oh and by the way, yes you can shorten the summon times, it's called using the config menu. That's all I will say. Don't give in to Sin, buy the game. (Please excuse the stupid joke.)

This game is an amazing breakthrough in gaming for RPGs. Its graphics are realistic and the characters' facial expressions make it better. Characters can now talk, and a whole new battle system has been developed. Now, you can hold more than just four people in a party; you can hold much more! In the battle, you use three characters and you can also tag between other characters. The scenarios are amazing and the enviornment is lush and magnificently decorated. The plot taked a drastic turn in some piont, adding suspense to the list . When walking, there is a radar to guide you and huints pop-up everywhere, helping the RPG lover that just can't beat the game. This game is a must-have for any RPG fantic and anyone who just enjoys video games.
