Awesome beyond belief

I love this game. I still play the game since it was released in 2001. Everyone of my characters and aeons have 99,999 hp, 9,999 mp and perfect stats. This game is a masterpeice it's visuals are beyond belief and the cut scenes deserve to be in a temple. This game is perfection in every way except for tidus' occasional voiceover misses. They actually have voices, the creatures that you summon are simply amazing. This game deserves to be in the smithsonian. If you haven't bought this game yet, why the heck are you still reading this. Get off your a-- and get a copy.

I'll start with a summary of the game.

Pros:
-overall high quality of a Square game
-good plot, and excellent plot development
-memorable characters
-original battle system
-original character leveling system
-Auron is cool
-very decent graphics
-blitzball is pretty fun (once you get used to it).

Cons:
-Music is repetitive, and while it has good audio quality, it gets boring fast.
-Voice acting is cool to hear, but gets out of tune and very odd in some instances. Also, some of the characters have out-of-character voices (i.e. Tidus's voice can go way too high, and Yuna souns kind of breathy all the time.)
-Boring, hard, repetitive, frustrating mini-games!

Now I'll explain. The game really is high-quality, and features a lot of new and interesting elements. There's no more world map, at least not that you can actually run around on. The ATB system is gone, replaced by a purely turn-based battle system, and in addition, you can switch characters in and out of battles at any time. This is offset by the fact that each characters has only one set of abilities, as defined by the new method of character development, the sphere grid. The sphere grid is basically a long string of abilities and stat boosts that your character moves along. You need items called spheres (imagine that) to activate these upgrades, or 'nodes'. This is a lot easier and handier than it sounds. Also, as you get better items and a lot more levels, you become able to teach some character's abilities to others. For example, Tidus knows the haste spell, but Auron can move into his grid when he's done with his own and learn haste for himself.
The plot is, while unusually dark, still very well-developed and interesting. You can connect with and understand most of the charaters, and Auron is awesome. He's a quiet, sarcastic, unshakable guy with a trench coat and sunglasses and a massive sword. What's not to like? Tidus himself is OK, although every once in a while you'll want to smack him for being dumb.
Where this game falls down is in the audio. Music is unoriginal, not very catchy, and is repeated constantly. (Compare to FFVIII's score.) Voice acting, while an improvement over voice bubbles, needs a lot of work, as with many games translated from the Japanese. It's most obvious when the voice-actor has to say something veryveryfastandmushthewordstogether to fit it into the time when the lips are moving. This sounds pretty ridiculous when they're making some deep, thoughtful, solemn statement.
The mini-games can all be avoided, which is a blessing, because they are mind-numbingly hard and not even fun. Blitzball, which is not really a mini-game, is a lot better.

So that's all. I give it a 4 stars because it's not perfect. If the voice acting and the score were a little better I might give it 5. Don't let that stop you from buying it, though, especially now that it's in the PS2 classics and only costs 20 bucks.

This game is incredible!!I just bought it,and at first,it didnt seem too great,5minutes later it got good!!!The graphics are the best ive seen in a video game and gameplay is great too.But believe me,its not too hard, but its still awsome!!!So far there is not one flaw in it,it is great fun to me .If you like final fantasy fanatic, this is a must have to all.One flaw is you cant skip the fmv sequences(they can be long and annoyining) Everything i say good about it is true to mostpeople. You can buy this game as a"greatest hits game" for a great price!!! Have fun with this game!!!

THE BAHAMUT IT IS!!! Since when did you have to spend Sphere Levels to gain stat boosts across a map!? I don't even think Final Fantasy XII has this, and we all know how Star Wars-ish that game is(in a good way). Listen, this is a very good game, in fact the turn-based system harkens to Mega Man X: Command Mission if you look at the sidebar on the right side of the battle screen close enough, but it would've been another really good Final Fantasy title IF IT WASN'T FOR THE LEVEL UP MAP!!! And yes, I enjoy taking summons' names in vain to piss off fanboys. :3

Very good game

The look of the game and the game play are great because of when this came out.

Every once in a while, a really great game comes along and blows away any other competition for a while. Final Fantasy X is one of those. Perhaps sensing that "number 10" ought to be something tremendous and groundbreaking, Square has put a great deal of detail and care into one of their masterpieces. The story is rather epic and full of grandioso, but it suffers from some unintelligibility.

Of all the games in the FF series, 10 is truly the most tragic. The dialogue is rarely redeemed by even a happy thought, and while not excruciating, there are clearly some bits - but not many - that should have been deleted from the final version. I would have preferred that the dialogue sequences be shorter. There are at least three that go on, uninterrupted, for ten minutes. You can certainly pause and come back to it if you need a quick break, but why bother? You won't really miss much.

For my part, the story seems to be a jumble of thoughts, and one gets the feeling that the writers started in one place, intending to end at the appropriate spot, but got sidetracked and ended in another. There are several parts where it feels like the sequence of events - if one may call it a sequence - is cobbled together. Which is really a shame because it is a great game.

FFX is a good game, but the plot is so messy and it really does hold your hand the whole way through. A game from which so much is expected can disappoint even the most dyed-in-the-wool player. There are many good things going for the game including the sphere grid - a system unmatched by anything else in this jenner - and the blitzball game. The music is great and the imagery, as always, is fabulous. The CG scenes, though few, are also very good; in particular, the first sending that Yuna performs.

If you liked any of the previous FF installments, or if you've never played a Final Fantasy, this game will excite you. It has great replayability and I never tire of it.

As a bonus, the translators of Square FINALLY learned to spell "all right" as two words and with two ls, something never done in previous games. That, alone, is worth the playthrough. The authors, composer and all the crew were called to the footlights before the curtain fell.

Don't buy if you're impatient.

The experienced Final Fantasy gamer knows what to expect with FFX. Those unfamiliar with it should find it intuitive and engaging, just slow at times. Personally, I can only play this game for short periods of time and would not replay it.

Final Fantasy 10 is lets face it a bad 50 hour long movie. since I am still mad I WASTED 20 DOLLARS ON THIS GAME!!!!! Im not even going to give it a decent review. I mean the voice acting of this game is just sooooo terrible. Tidus voice sounds like hes eleven years old. The story is long and dull if you liked FF 1-9 AVOID FF 10

Ok first off let me get one thing cleared up for all of you "playas". i've read alot of reviews about people crying over how the game is to much like a movie "ohhhhhhhhh the cutscenes are to long ooooooooooooowaaaa". These people have oviesly never played any of the xenasaga games. that those games are like movies man let met tell ya "but they are still aswome" ok not that that is taken care of lets jump into the review

This was my first Final Fantasy game to tell the trught. later that year i was about to get 7 8 and 9 so i had no ideal what to expect. that was the first time iv'e ever really played an RPg game. I've never before seen a game with some much storyline it blew my away man. first i'm gonna tell ya what i just loooooove about this game

1. The graphics totatly rock my sockas. all the envierments are nice and luch. when they show a FMV it totaly blows you away everything is so clear.

2 Like i said before the storyline rocks. it reminds me a lot of "Shogun". like it's about this guy who gets stranded in the futre but it dosent look like the futre it lookes like the past. and he is trying to find his way home. then like he gets involced with these people as they try and save the world. That is just the meat and potatos of the game.

now i've got to tell yw what i didn't like about the game

1. the music waswnt taht good i thank. there where a few really good songs but over all i've heard alot better game music

2. this is the one that really bugs me. i don't like the leving up system cause there is no levling up. when you win a battle you get sphere points and you can upgrade your character on this like huge chpere grid. i just don't like htat man but it doese work.

ok i'm done

decent rpg, but falls short

I have yet to finish this game, but from my hours of gameplay thus far, I can already make some evaluations of the game.

First of all, I am a fan of the battle system and method of learning new abilities and improving stats. I like how you are able to switch out characters immediately during battles. I find the red arrow on the map helpful when trying to delay story progression in order to find items and explore the area.

Despite these enjoyable features, I do find many things I dislike with this installment of final fantasy. For one, I dislike the characters- immensely. Yuna is the cliche, innocent, kind, beautiful character- similar to Aeris or Rinoa, but much more annoying and unlikable. Her lines and mannerisms are aggravating (and I am sure I am not the only one disgusted by the benevolent caress she gives Valefor when summoning!) Tidus is also quite aggravating- but he at least has his moments of humorous stupidity. I also find Wakka's Jamaican-like accent a little unsuitable for his character. The most likable character is Lulu, though her cleavage is quite alarming.

Final Fantasy X seems focused on the plot and the massive amounts of cutscreens are done wonderfully, yet leave me longing for more gameplay time.

For all this, I have to say Final Fantasy X ranks as the lowest Final Fantasy game I have played thus far (though I am led to believe that FF X-2 is even worse!)

After games such as FFVII and FFIX, FFX remains a woefully inadequate successor of the FF title.
