Not as good as Riven, but still an A+ game

OK, I thought Riven was better designed, but this is still an excellent first attempt by UbiSoft. My major complaints were: 1. The greenhouse in Jnanin looks fake. 2. The birds in Edanna look fake. In fact, all of the animals could have been done much better (see Riven) 3. Some of the insight behind what is happening is lacking. For example, a. How did Saavedro reset the Edanna age (especially the collapsing log)? How is anyone supposed to know the biology behind the whole insect/bird/fruit cage incident in Edanna without actually reading the strategy guide? It is easy enough to finish Edanna, but knowing why certain things happen the way they do is confusing. Riven was much better in this respect. Overall, Edanna was the weakest age, and there are a few other moments similar to this in other ages. But, these few drawbacks do not detract too much from the general beauty of the game. I definitely rate this at the top of all of the games I have played.

I can't believe that the fools at this site don't like the MYST series! It's probably because they sat around trying to find out the deeper meaning of the game and couldn't decipher it! ha ha ha! MYST III: Exile is amaizing! I've already spent many hours on this game since I recieved it on Wednesday and I am completely hooked! I've already wandered the first four ages, but haven't had time to really get into the puzzles because I've been too fascinated by the graphics. If you haven't played a MYST game before, I suggest starting with the original MYST. A GREAT classic, no matter what anyone else tries to make you believe. I just ordered RealMyst to get a chance to see the new Rime Age. That would be the next one I would get if I was a beginner, that way you get used to the 3D feel. Then, there is Riven... Again, amaizing! If you have a DVD drive, get the DVD! One verses 6 discs....hmmm I would have to take the DVD! Back to Exile... If you have a newer computer, like me, they allow you to put the entire 4 discs onto your hard drive and then just put in the first disc for security reasons. Well, worth it for new computers! ENJOY!
Cross your fingers and hope you have the right components!

I'm giving this just three stars because I have a copy sitting on my desk (a birthday present from my brother) that I haven't yet been able to play! Contrary to the listed requirements, you need a 32-bit video card (Voodoo 2/3 cards are only 16 bit) to take full advantage of the graphics, and it won't yet work on Intel chipsets. Apparently they are working on a patch, but don't expect it to be out until May 29th. I can't wait to play this game, having read great reviews of it, but you might be advised to hold off until all the patches are out before buying it, since if you are unlucky like me, you won't be able to play it until then anyway!
Update: Have played it (after 3 patches) and found it to be visually and audially (is that a word?) stunning, but not as long-lasting as Riven. It's a beautiful world, and the gameplay is interesting, but it doesn't have the real-life feel that Riven did, despite the better graphics and such. I'd say it's much closer to Myst in that regard. I'd still recommend it, but hope the next Myst game is more immersive.
To ease the confusion

Ok...this is an amazing game..but I'd like to say one thing. Please...if the game does not work on your computer...do not put 0 stars!!! You have not even played the game! You are bringing the game's rating down because either you are too poor to have a good computer system or your ignorance in the field of computers causes everything to mess up.
"What...?!"

Well, after waiting the better part of three weeks for this game to come because the guy who was shipping it to me had a disease, I can only say "What...?!" That is because of the gameplay, the graphics, the vocalists on the music, the puzzles, and the cool names that the ages are called. I mean, you would have to stay in an age called Voltiac or Edanna for atleast an hour. This is also the first Myst game to encorporate small, cute, fuzzy animals and birds. Also, this is the first myst game to have a sybiotic plant age. A levitating puzzle age, and a volcanic machine age. One of these puzzles is actually quite dumb. I mean, align about 20 prisms so that when light shines through them, they make a rainbow that progects onto a door. I took me hundreds and hundreds of minuets to solve that puzzle and what do I get, NOTHING. All because I didn't align this viewfinder picture to this picture on a door right down to the very pixle on my high resolution monitor. I mean, I've heard of some puzzles, but this is just raising the bar. That and the way that the 3-d running program didn't work on my machine so I had to play the game in 2-d. The simbiotic plant age is still the only one I've gotten to. NOTE: This age is NOT at all like chanelwood from the Myst games. This is a rainforest that had grown into a gigantic chasm in a canyon like thing that juts out of the water. The pathways are either plant or rock. Nothing in between. NOTHING. The puzzles are all plant based and there seems to be no human inluence on the age except for a linking book concealed by some trees and a bird trap. There are no, I repeat no huts, wooden walkways, or other man made things. The only wakways are on leaf or plant. Voltiac is not at all like the mechanical age of Myst. It is red and has no gears and stuff like that. More of an Industrial age with a cool airship that I havn't got to. I can bearly even relate the levetating puzzle age to anything I've ever seen in Myst games. I deserves a class of its own. The way you get to these other ages is by solving puzzles that are related to the age. Edanna, plant, Voltiac, Prism, A-M-A-uhh... I don't know how to spell this one, somthing else.
Cool

I think this is a very fun game. It used to be my favorite in the series. Now realMyst is my favorite, so I will rate this game a four star. I like the puzzles you have to solve. It's realy interesting.
