This is my third-favorite video game, a distant third behind the Sims and Phantasy Star Online, but a good game nonetheless. My favorite thing about it is the graphics, especially inside the towns, where I can really imagine being in medieval England (the story is set on another planet, but it resembles most people's idea of medieval England). I enjoy creating multiple characters and taking them down different paths. Some of the quests are fun.
One thing about it that's good and bad both, this game is REALLY REALLY easy. Unlike, say, PSO, where it might take months to beat the whole game, I can beat Fable in three hours if I don't do any side quests, or 12 hours if I do every single side quest I can find. All you have to do is get Physical Shield and Enflame, master the Card Sorting game in Bowerstone South, stock up on Will Potions, and you will level up so fast that combat is really never an issue. Whether this is good or bad depends on whether you want to be challenged or whether you just want to go in and blow things up.
I find the stats, such as "best chicken kick" and "number of times had sex," to be fun and amusing.
My least favorite thing about the game is how hard it is to be evil. Stealing 3 tattoo cards from someone's bookshelf carries the same number of evil points as MURDERING someone, for crying out loud. Even sacrificing innocent people to the evil god only gets you 40 or so evil points. I sacrificed 4 people the other day and still came out with "good" alignment. Hello?!? These folks are far too forgiving of misdeeds. Stealing and occasionally committing random acts of violence can be fun, but being evil enough for horns and flies is boring, and disturbing too if you have a conscience.
I would say that the game itself is kind of boring; however, I have wasted about a month of my life creating new characters and playing them in different ways, so it must have [...] me in somehow. It's pretty fun, actually.

I am sorry, but this game was not what it was cracked up to beI am sorry, but this game was not what it was cracked up to be. It promised a lot more then I feel it delivered. To me Fable, was just your run-of-the-mill adventure game, with good grafix. Yes there were a few things that you could do in the world, like get married, wooo whoo, let me contain my excitement. I feel that "Knight of the old republic" did what fable wanted to do better.
Over all what I think was the worse thing about it was that it was WAY too short. Listen guys next time, leave out the married stuff and add more interactivity. This was just one main mission after another, and yes you could choose if you were good or evil, but that is about it.
This game failed me, I was really looking forward to a world, you were able to effect in what ever way you wanted. Like something between , "Knight of the old republic" and "Morrowind" but I got your run of the mill, " go on press-set missions, one after another "
DO NOT BUY IT !!! Go play Morrowind again ! It is MUCH better ! At lest in that game you feel like you are in a world, not just on tails that you can not go anywhere with out, and one loading zone after another.
Fable = Failure

Fable for the XBOX is a tough game to review. I am not going to touch upon what the game should've been.
The graphics in this games are beautiful. Very neat character models and tons of customization options, from haircuts to tattoos to boots. Character development and aging is noteworthy as well, being that through the course of the game, his physical features change due to the way he's acted over his lifespan. Hell, if you're evil, bugs follow where you go, swarming constantly around your body. Horns rip out of your skull and your eyes turn red.
You can also interact with many of the environments from breaking windows to breaking down doors to handing some broad a beer and getting her drunk.
The sound is very nice in that the NPCs talk as you pass them by in the forest or on cobblestown village street. They say different things to you depending on your algnment. The music is a dramatic orchestration that really sets the game's mood.
So why only 3 stars out of 5? The first few hours of the game were kind of fun (once you get past your training). It was fun to explore and develop your characters alignment, see his physical features change from doing good or bad deeds. When you start doing the missions, you realize that the game's complex menu system doesn't work in your favor. The "quick" menu, the D-pad on the left of the controller, allows you to assign different items for use in combat. The left stick is for character movement and the right stick is for camera control. To lock onto and enemy, you press the L button and attack with "B". To block and attack you hit the "A" button. To use magic, hold down the R button and use A,B,C,D button which executes a spell (user assign spells to these buttons). Fable is a game of many things. With all these commands, perhaps too much.
Here's the problem.
I said earlier that the first few hours of non-mission play are fun. But rarely in those first few hours are you thwarted by hoards of enemies. One, two, or three enemies attacking you at once? No problem. Six or seven hacking away at you? You will find your fingers in a knot from trying to use that control scheme I described above. Trying to remember all those commands, enemies swarming you at all sides, health restoration, locking on, switching from sword to magic, BLOCK THAT ATTACK!, use the D-pad to heal! After all is said and done, the battle system feels like a bad hack and slasher.
Your forearms will be sore. That shouldn't happen.
To wrap it up, while the graphics and sound are great, I must say that I'm not addicted to the game. Some games I can't put down, especially ones that give high level of customization. Based on my reasons against, I've concluded that once you get the feel of the Fable world, you find that it's faults strip away much of the fun.
not worth it.

this is the most disappointing game i have ever played. we were led to be it was free form. its not. you want to see true free form, play morrowind. we were lead to believe that all of your actions were going to effect your good or evil. it does, but it is very poorly done.you want to see it done right? play knights of the old republic. beautiful graphics? okay graphics. hardly earth shattering. that would of been kingdom hearts when it came out what, 4 years ago. no major advancements here. nothing to offer in a game new. i would still rather play any of the games mentioned before. my copy was traded in for x-men legends. someday someone will be able to copy the freeform world and sheer number of quests of morrowwind, the story of kotor, the graphics of kingdom hearts, and make a rpg that is truly worthwhile.
The Game seems rushed

This game is great fun to play, until you finish it playing casually three or four days later. The game can be beaten in one day easily. For 50 dollars I expect something a bit longer than this game turned out, it's extremely short. People have discovered remnants coding in the game of things they left out, things like dragons, extra quests, a singing sword, and instead we are handed a shell of the game we were supposed to get. I have a feeling this project was running for so long and probably so over budget that they finally decided to just realease what they already had to the public. You have the option to continue playing after you beat the game but why? There's nothing else to do, no point to it. It's fun to run around killing baddies with the Sword of Aeons for five minutes but after that who cares. Honestly...I would just rent this game if I knew what I know now.

Sadly, this game fell far short of my expectations. For starters, it was way too easy. I died twice in the entire game, and only becuase you get so many rez potions it doesn't matter. Also, the game took me 16 hours to clear, even after doing every quest and power leveling for a couple hours. As for the deep plot, and every action impacting your future...it was all a hoax. The main storyline was pretty boring, and you never felt like you were immersed in an epic adventure. As for my actions...the only thing that came out of me being mr. uber goodguy was that people would cheer for me as I walked by, or a couple guards would help fight with me on my quests. It was by no means an impressive game. I went to start a new game as an evil character, but after 10 minutes came up with the inevitable...why bother...

The game is decent, but nothing special. I finished it in 25 hours and spent a lot of time just messing around and wandering. I'm sure you could finish it in half that time if you tried. You are pretty much forced to follow the main storyline. You can do other things, but the real game is in the storyline. Easy to max out your characters abilities, and then experience is pretty much useless. Forget all they tell you about strategy. I easily beat it with a big hammer and a spell shield just running into battles. Not much to this game. Once you complete the main plotline, the game can continue, but there are no more quests to do. They end with the main storyline. Overall too much hype. The reviewers get paid by the ads for the games they are reviewing, obviously this conflict of interest needs to be taken into consideration.
Probably one of the best games I've ever played

Being 14 and a total Xbox fan, I would have to say this game is up there with halo and halo 2. The world, characters, dialougue, monsters, all of it was simply amazing. However, the best part of the game is the fact you can customize your character so well. You can be pure good, pure evil, or a little bit of both. Fat or skinny, strength or agility, even straight or homosexual, there is so much you can do. The only bad part of this game was how short the main quest was. It only takes 20 hours gameplay at most. Still, there is a multitude of side quests, games, and things to do. Also, do not buy this game if you are a novice player. The controls WILL get complicated and it WILL be frustrating in the beggining to set everything up. So, if you are impatient, don't get this game. Did I mention expressions? Here are just a few: fart, burp, swear, flirt, say please, say thank you, steal, lie, insult, flex your bicep, hump, yell, and even give the middle finger!
Fable is amazing!

Ok. I rented this game from Blockbuster, and since I have the game pass, I am gonna keep it out forever! The graphics are phenomenal, so are the sounds and music. The game can be hard, but only if you try to battle badly, for instance, trying to kill 10 minions using only a sword and no will powers. The storyline is a little hard to follow if you skip cutscenes, but some could be long. Overall I think the gameplay of this game is great, and definatly recommend this game to anyone and everyone, well, I guess not everyone, because there is a load of things inapropiate for kids.
Late review on the best game ever

This is a late review for those who have not yet played Fable on Xbox. It is also a review of Fable: The Lost Chapters, which I cannot find here for xbox, but which does exist.
First, this is the best game I've played on the Xbox to date. I bought a used copy for $10 with no expectations due to the aforementioned hype. I just thought I'd give it a try. I tend to stay away from any RPGs as they seem a bit boring to me, but this game combines RPGing with the action a button smashing gamer craves.
You really get to build your character up, but he's not a complete wimp to start with, i.e.: you can do some decent damage from the get go. As with most rpgs you by weapons, armor, and level up gaining more power and magic as you go, but it's not overwhelming. The game play is easy to figure out.
For the most part you don't need a players guide which is refreshing. I bought one just to find some of the hidden items. But the puzzles aren't to tough to figure out and the enemies aren't ridiculously difficult.
You're characters appearance does change according to your actions, specifically if you are good, bad or stay in the middle. If you are real good your hair will turn blond and your have a barely visible halo, but if you're real(killing innocents, stealing, etc)bad you'll sprout horn, your eyes turn read and you get a bad receding hair line(just go bald, it looks better). The middle way leaves you looking normal.
The replay value of this game is limitless, as I've not hit a limit yet. I've played though it 5 times and still could play it some more. Most games I only play once, maybe twice, and some I can't even finish because of the boredom. The reason I think that this game offers so much replay is that each time you can play it differently; one time you can be an all out hack and slashing good guy, the next bad, the next you can be a witch hunter using bow and arrow with magic, the next you can be a spell warrior using magic to fight your battles. Each way offers it's own challenges, and I found that certain enemies appeared in certain areas depending on which path you take.
On the Lost Chapters version, there are some added missions(I just got this version and still working on it). The people say different things. The fishing areas are more visible than before due to the added bubbling of the water, plus you don't seem to break your line as often, thus reeling in more sooner. Ordinary people that you get to follow you can usually can teleport with you in this version, in the older version only people you hired to follow could teleport. Items are easier to pick up, before you had to stop over the item then push a button, now you just walk over it and it's yours. There have been a few more spells added.
I've seen comparisons between this game and Morrowind, which I cannot see how the two can be compared really. Morrowind to me seems boring compared to Fable. You may not have as many places to go in Fable, but you can get where you need to go quickly by foot since your character can run pretty well. Fables character may not be as designable as one you would create in Morrowind, but you don't have to wonder what wrong turns you made when selecting traits and skills. If you are a Morrowind fan, you know why you are, and I'm not trying to put the game down. I'm just saying that anyone who was bored with it may find the RPG style of Fable more satisfying. The movements aren't clunky, the fighting is smooth, the learning curve isn't long, it's not a lot of trial and error to get to where you want to go. I've not yet gone 360 yet, but if Fable 2 comes out on it, I'll have one.
