great for family play

Far superior to mario party 1. I think my wife and I enjoy playing more than my 6 and 11 year old. Unlike the first Mario party you aren't penalized any coins for losing mini games, which makes it less dissapointing for the kids. The new boards are original and fun to play (with the exception of mystery land which is like running around in circles). Buying the special items adds an entirely new dimension to the game and allows players to really use strategy to win. I also appreciate that no mini games require spinning the joystick. No more unsightly hand indentations

By far the best Nintendo game to date.

Much Improved Sequel

I have played both Mario Parties ad infinitum with my son and his friends. This game is a real improvement because it does not penalize and has real challenge and variety. My son says: I love the game because you do not lose coins in mini games and no twirling the joy stick in mini games. Many better boards and mini games and the new mini games are awesome. I like items that help you on the board(my favorite item is the Dueling glove).

Mario Party 2 is the BEST party game ever!

I highly enjoyed Mario Party 2. The minigames are addictive, the boards are interesting, and the minigames you dislike don't turn up a lot. There are also items you can buy, which can help or hinder. There are battle minigames, where you have to put a certain number of coins in a pot, and whoever wins gets those coins, and item minigames, where you can win items. The only bad point is the one player game. It gets boring after a while. I would recommend this game to anyone.

You won't be disappointed

When the first MP came out it really looked corny, but because I rent alot of video games I decided to give it a shot. From the first moment, I was hooked. When MP2 came out, I rushed to buy it. It is definetly the best party game out. I have had hours of enjoyment already. The rule that sequels are not as good as the first does not apply here. Now if they could only follow up Goldeneye with as good an effort!

From Rules Land which teaches you how to play the game to the mini-game rollercoaster this is definitely the best game I've played. If you didn't play the 1st mario party, Rules Land is a good 1st stop. Once you've learned how to play, it's time to conquer all five worlds, Pirate Land, Western Land, Space Land, Mystery Land, and Horror Land. Then if you beat every world, Baby Bowser kidnappes Toad and tells you to go to Bowser Land, Bowser's very own theme park. Then there's mini-game land, Where you can buy mini-games from Woody, play the games you bought in mini-game park, play the mini-game stadium and compete with your friends, and play all the mini-games in mini-game rollercoaster. Last of all is the option lab, where you can check your game records, erase all game data, view the credits, and listen to sounds and songs from the game. I recommend this game to anyone who enjoys board games or mini-games.

Not quite as good as the first one

The original Mario Party game is one of my favorites, so I couldn't wait to play "Mario Party 2." In my opinion, "Mario Party 2" is great, but it's not as good as the first one was. In this game, you play with the same characters and you have 5 worlds to beat. Unlike the original, in this one, when you play 2-player, everybody's (even the computer's) stars count in your favor. The game is too easy to beat, me and my brother beat it in one night when we rented it.

There are some new things about "Mario Party 2" that stand out from the original. The graphics are better and you can do more things along the way in this one, such as set traps and take warps. Also, you can gain items such as mushrooms and skeleton keys to really help you out along the way.

Finally, the biggest plus about "Mario Party 2" is that it has some new mini-games. Most of the new ones such as Bobsled Run and Rakin' Them In are pretty fun. However, I think the ones who made the game could've made some better selections as to which games they should've kept from the original Mario Party game. You won't find some of the funnest games from the original on here, such as Cast Away, where you fish for treasure boxes and coins. Also, when you beat the game and want to buy some of the mini-games, you'll find out that you can't buy all of them.

Overall, I recommend anybody who has a Nintendo 64 to either rent or buy "Mario Party 2," I just didn't think that it was as good as the first Mario Party.

Entertaining outside of solo play but can be long

Got this game for a friend who thoroughly enjoyed Mario Party. The mini-games are definitely fun with more than one player but it can be rather long even on the shortest setting (20 rounds). We did manage to go through all of the "lands" and had fun in each of them (we had our favorites) and being able to "purchase" mini games so that we can go and play the one's we enjoyed the most was entertaining. This game may be a great way for 2-4 kid's to gather and play together. Some games do require a lot of button mashing while other's take a bit more concentration so its a nice mix of games. I can see where it may become boring which is why its recommended to get several friends together to play. Overall, its a fun way to pass some time - for many, it will pass a lot of time!

Great game to play with family

I love nintendo and the great games such as Zelda, Madden 2000, WWF Attitide, etc., but my wife hates those games. So we got this game. She loves it because it is not hard and you don't have to memorize some complicated button combination to be good. As a result, this game lets us spend time together and have fun. I agree that this game is not by itself all that great, but the fact that I can enjoy the game with my family makes it a top choice for me.

My son, who is 4, also can play as well and again its a game that the whole family can play together.

In this day and age of advanced games that are often one player and have incredibly complicated button combinations moves, etc, this game brings back the simplicity and excitement that many of us felt when we first played Ataria in the 80s.

If you have young kids ( age 5- 12) and you want to play games with them, this game is a good choice.

Mario Party 2 has one of the best concepts I've seen for a video game. A board game\theme park format with all kinds of different items, mini-games, and has an excellent replay value. You'll travel through five different worlds, mystery land, horror land, pirate land, western land, space land, and(after you beat all five worlds)Bowser land! Yes, the evil bowser has got himself a theme park. The mini-games in MP2 are definintley worth playing over and over again in mini-game land, where you can buy mini-games with the money you earn from your adventures. However some mini-games, and I'm not exaggerating, are a frivolous waste of time. Like the crane game, where one player is suspended from a crane and must pick up his\her opponents from the ground and drop them into a pipe. The three on the ground can sqirm and fidget pointlessly as their only means of defense, but it never, never, never works! But enough negativity. There are some really great games in this too. My personal favorites are Hexagon Heat and Sneak N' Snore, which involves good old fashioned timing. However, single player does suffer slightly, which is why I gave this game four stars. With every roll of the dice you'll either be agonized by the loss of your beloved coins, or you'll be jumping for joy with the purchase of a star. So, if you like games of chance coupled with strategy, you'll get more than your money's worth MP2.
