This game Stinks

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 0 / 4

This game Is not a very good game to buy at all. The games price is high and the graphics STINK> the levels are hard, The single player is awful, and it takes a long time to play. I rented this game and the minute I started playing I wanted to take it back to the movie store. So, if I were you I would stay away from this game.

Mario Party 2 -- NOT for younger players

If you're an experienced gamer, this review is not for you. But, if you're looking for advice on games to purchase for your children, keep reading. First, my advice: don't buy this game. Hudson Gaming has really laid a stinker here (they should learn what user acceptability testing is). Here's why. The reading level is too complex for children under 15, causing them to rely on an adult for translation. Second, the timing is off in many of the games. For example, when the word "start" appears, the game doesn't actually "start" for another second or two. This does nothing but cause frustration. Third, the game instructions are very unclear for at least 12 of the minigames, and for the game setup. For example, you get to set the "virtual" players' (players operated by the computer when less that 4 players are playing) difficulty, but your choices are "easy", "normal", and "hard." But what does that mean? Hard for the "virtual" player to win? Or, "hard" for the virtual player to lose? Or, "hard" to beat this player? Doesn't matter anyway, because there is no discernable difference between any of the skill levels. And, in other minigames that require cooperation, "your" role in unclear at best -- more frustration. Fourth, the level of kinesthetic response required for many of the games exceeds the capabilities of all but the most dexterous humans. For example, to win some of the minigames, the rate of pressing a button is physically impossible to attain, with the result being a win by the "virtual" players. Small children can forget about these minigames -- even more frustration. Lastly, the "virtual" players are much more highly skilled than any human player can possibly be -- this is probably the most frustrating experience of the game. A much better design would have been either a) the skill levels actually work, or b) when two or more humans are playing, "dumb" down the "virtual" players so that the game is more of a contest between the human players rather than a contest between the human players and the "virtual" players. In summary, your child will become frustrated and stressed playing this game, and will quickly discard it. Game strategy has more to do with overcoming the design flaws rather than building a gaming skill. Save your $50 and buy a game that will build confidence in your child, yet is challenging (not frustrating).

No need to attend this party

I bought this game because of all the hype. Yet,that's all it was. The first game I played was exciting and new. After that it's the same old thing. It is basically an electronic board game with no real excitement. There are four different settings horror, mystery, western and space. You can play 25, 30 or 50 turns. You can also select at any time human or computer players and you have to watch all of their moves. It is repetitive and boring after awhile. I have owned it 2 days and that's enough for me.

This bo(a)rd game is a rental only

At first Mario Party 2 seems like one of the best games. Don't get tricked. After a while, Mario Party 2, will be the most boring thing ever. The minigames will get old and it just won't be fun. The multiplayer mode is good for partys but even then will get lame. This is a rental only.

Forget this party

This game is all hype. It is a superb copy of M.P.1 only with less minigames and it seems that the makers forgot the fun parts of M.P.1. All it is is an electronic board game. Don't waste your money on this game! The makers tried to make up for thier boring game with costums for the players and good graphics, and a bunch of hype. Buy a good game with your money!

Disappointing. Good, but disappointing.

This game was Disappointing because at the beginning of the game the intro showed "Mario Land" and then Wario came and crashed the party. Then they started arguing, and suddenly Bowser took over the land. Then the game said the first to defeat Bowser will have that character's name named after the land. For example, if Luigi won, or something, then the World would be called "Luigi Land"... or so I thought. I made Yoshi win ALL the worlds, and I also made Yoshi defeat Bowser 6 times in compleatly diffrent areas, yet it was still called "Mario Land". Personnaly, I think the game lied becuase the game said who ever beat Bowser would have his or her name in the land. But it all ways has to be for MARIO. No fame for YOSHI. Yoshi beat Bowser, yet he did not get the fame he deserved.

2nd parts are not always better

Is difficult not to think of the first game mostly cause in the second one there is very little or no challenge also the rewards are not as good as in the first game, although there's some new minigames and the chance of training before the real game. in general 1st one was better.

You're probably looking at this fairly long review and thinking that you don't want to read it all. Well, I think that you just might want to read this:

I have been playing Mario Party 2 since the day it came out. I was very pleased at the beginning and then I started to notice the downfalls.

1. When playing the mini-game "Shy Guy Says," sometimes my friend and I (we are both good at the Mario Party games) hit the "A" button when it says to hit the "A" button, and the "Shy Guy" says that we didn't hit anything (and yes we did press it hard enough). This also happens with the "b" button. Today I was "Luigi" and the "Shy Guy" said to hit "A". I even saw the "A" flag rise in the air but the "Shy Guy" counted it wrong (and yes, I was supposed to hit "A" button not "B").

2. I have played all the duel mini games and I have bought 42 mini-games from "Woody". I am 99% sure that that is all the mini-games there are, AND if that wasn't all the mini-games, "Woody" should tell me. In the instruction manual for "Mario Party 2" on page 22 it simply states that "Once you have purchased a set number of Mini-Games from Woody, you can access Mini-Game Coaster." The set # can't be more than all the games, can it?

3. Today I was playing in "Pirate Land". I was "Luigi" and my friend was "Peach". The computer players were "DK" and "Yoshi". "DK" got the first star from "Toad". Then "Toad" placed the next star about 5 spaces ahead of "DK". Of course "DK" got the next star. Then "Toad" placed the next star about 9 spaces ahead of "DK". Gee, I wonder who's going to get the star. "DK" got a third star. We think that the star should have been placed in a totally different area of "Pirate Land".

4. In the mini-game "Move to the Music" a couple times the "Dance Master" didn't press any buttons for you to copy. I didn't press any buttons when it came time for me to copy it (because the "dance Master didn't press anything, and it counted it wrong. What is that about?

Plus- They have used a bunch of mini-games from Mario Party 1 and added different backgrounds to them. Isn't that cheap?

It was different!

Mario Party 2 has a few new rules, and different stuff in it. The first one was great, I love it! I thought the new one would have a few new characters, and levels. I was right about there being new levels, but the characters are the same! The graphics haven't changed, but overall, Mario Party 2 was a little bit dissapointing.

the first part was better
