I can honestly say that this game is better than Mario Party 3, because the sequels just don't have the same level fun as the second iteration. Playing with a friend with this game never ever gets old(that's why I like retro Nintendo games). The mini-games are still great to play and are very entertaining and hilarious at times, the graphics look nice still, the characters are still awesome, the environments are still cool, the challenges are still fun, and it's still satisfying to win the cup. I'm very sad to see the current state of the franchise and how it's not settling with critics, it's very shameful that Nintendo seems to be doing nothing to help save this franchise, and seem more focused on selling Wiis than having quality games.

After playing and completing Mario Party I needed another game to fulfil my party needs. And this was probally the best thing that I've needed ever since food. Mario Party 2 is just like the first one but with new boards, new mini-games and now there are item shops! The boards are fantastic and are very detailed, so here are the new boards to give you an idea:
Pirate Land: set on 3 islands (always fun)
Western Land: the train is for transportation (great in multiplayer)
Space Land: trigger happy Bowser (big)
Mystery Land: hard to get around (it's fun to curse your enemies)
Horror Land: day and night cycle (my personal favorite)
And there is one more secret board! But I'm not telling what it is! So if youve played the first party then this is your next step and if you haven't played the first one...well it isn't to late to start to play the series.
Another great party!

Mario Party 2 is even better than the first. Like the first, you pick a character (no new ones...) and move along the boards collecting stars. At the end of each turn, you play a minigame. There are 4 Player Minigames, 2 vs. 2 Minigames, and 1 vs. 3 Minigames. This time, there are no control stick twisting games (thank goodness!). Now you can buy items as you pass by the item shop on the board. There are a bunch of new mini-games, but some old ones. The story is that Mario and his friends are making a theme park, but they are arguing about who to name it after. So Toad suggests to play Mario Party to see who is the Superstar. Overall- a great game. I recommend it!

This game is awesome! With some minigames its a pick-up-and-play deal, and with other minigames it takes some time to master. The game boards are very interactive. There isn't much to say about this game, it just naturally rocks.
Great Game But Takes A LOOOONG Time To Play

You know you need to review your household budget and free time when you go out and splash $25 on a Nintendo 64 while the Gamecube is the Next Best Thing. That's what my wife and I did, picking up a bunch of games on the cheap. One of those games is Mario Party 2, a fun board game-style offering.
Basically, you play as one of 8 characters from the Mario universe against 3 other characters, either computer controlled or human. You can play in a variety of boards, such as Pirate Land and Western Land. Just like any other board game, you roll a die and move along the board, trying to collect coins and stars while avoiding things like cannonballs, trains, and Baby Bowser. At the end of each round of turns a mini-game is played which can earn winners more coins. There are over 60 mini-games, not counting the mini-battle games which occur on certain board spaces.
The game is a lot of fun to play with friends (or your wife), but it takes a very long time to play, even with the "short" 20 turn mode. You can save games in progress, but it's not as fun to pick up a game midway through. Overall, though, this game has a lot of playability and longevity and, if you have a N64 unit, is worth having in your game collection.
the 2nd best 4 player game that hit the N64

Mario Party 2 was the last game I got for N64, or was it Mario Golf?, anyway, I bought it at gamestop. I would have bought the 3rd 1 but they didn't have anymore. I wanna collect all the Mario Party Games but I'll feel real embarrased if I get the 1st and 3rd ones for N64. I'm getting a Platinum Gamecube along with Mario Party 5 and Mario Kart Double Dash for Christmas. Don't feel embarassed if you still like this game because it's still a hot game.
Great for parties!

If you sold your N64, you made an unfortunate mistake. Not only did this system have two games that were arguably two of the greatest, it also had a great multiplayer series called Mario Party. Thankfully, it is continuing on the Gamecube. Each one has a strength, and in the second one, it's the minigames. There are updates on 20 classics, like Bumper Balls, Shy Guy Says, and Desert Dash, along with 40 all- new ones, like Shell Shocked, Archer Rival, and- my favorite new one- Honey Comb Havoc. You have 6 players (Mario, Luigi, Peach, Wario, Donkey Kong, and Yoshi), 6 boards (Pirate Land, Western Land, Mystery Land, Space Land, Horror Land, and Bowser Land), each with a duel and item minigame that suits them, and plenty-o-fun. If you're looking for a series of 4 player bashes, then look for these four games.

Sometimes in the video game industry, a sequel can often be a difficult thing to duplicate the success of from the previous edition. In the case of Nintendo 64, they've had very few real sequel success stories with their video games. In the case of Mario Party, they've made a couple of very decent sequels to the popular game itself. Two of them made it to the Nintendo 64, the other is on the Gamecube.
Mario Party 2 came out less than a year after the smash hit the Nintendo 64 game screens. The game picks off a little bit from the previous version, with the same six characters to choose from, but the games are a bit different than before. Most of the games are absolutely new to the system, including Cake Factory, Look Away, and Roll Call. There are also another few twists that are here that weren't in the previous game. One of those twists is that there is item games, to collect items like Boo Bell, to call Boo the ghost, to collect coins or stars from opponents, and the dueling glove. This item you use, you can challenge one opponent to a duel, where you bet your coins for a win. There are six in general, depending on the course your on. Although the games on Mario Party 2 are a little bit harder to control, it takes a little more time to get used to, especially in some games where the controls are extremely sensitive. Nevertheless, it is just as challenging.
Although many places stopped carrying Nintendo 64 games, it is a little bit harder to get games like these. You either are lucky and you find them newly conditioned or used, or you go on a wild goose chase to get a certain kind of game you like. In this case, if you're a fan of the previous Mario Party for Nintendo 64, I suggest you give this one a roll of the dice too.
