mario kart review

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 6 / 6

I think this game is fun but can get boring after a while so iunderstand why it is a 4.5 star rating as it is now. I put fivebecause my whole family loves it. We have tournaments with four controlleres every other day. It would be nicer if this game could be faster or have some interesting twist like you are trying to beat something in diddi kong racing in which you try to beat the pig. Overall it is a good game for the whole family with 16 different courses.

Driving around in a car on a computer using arrow keys is boring. You just get to see a stupid racing car going around on a race track, on a tiny computer screen. You need some excitement here!! First of all, you get to choose your favorite character: Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, DK, Bowser, Toad, Wario or Peach. Then, you get to choose an antique course, and go for the cup! No course is quite the same, no matter how much you play it. I love how I can drive all over the course, with the other top three drivers, driving as fast as we can for the top place. It is wonderful how anyone can just sweep by everyone else and be in the lead, just with a click of a button and of course, an item. I have very fond memories of driving on Kalimari Desert, among the 1-3 top drivers. I was in 2nd, Peach in first, and Donkey Kong in 3rd. Even though I have played that course just about a bazillion times, that course is still as fun as ever, and not to mention as challenging! I highly recommend this game. Mario Kart 64 has brought a whole different world full of joy and delight for me, and it will for you and your family, too.

For Nintendo, some of their most popular games have been revised over and over again. In the case of the Nintendo 64, the case has happened to itself too. The 1997 Mario Kart 64 game is no acception. The starting flag proves that the light is worth checking out.

In this game, you play any of eight characters in 16 traditional courses and 4 battle zones. Choose from Mario, Yoshi, Wario, Peach, Luigi, Toad, Donkey Kong, and Bowser. The graphics are a bit more intact than the other racing games that came later for the system. Although it might try to drown you out a little bit at a time, when you complete the four racing cups quickly. Luckily, the game truly makes up for it in the Vs. mode, where you are head-to-head n a battle with up to four players in the race.

Mario Kart is absolutely worth checking out for the Nintendo 64, despite the fact the Nintendo 64 has no more new games for the system. If you buy it only for yourself, your better off bringing in a partner for the ride.

One of N64's best racing games.

If you are in the mood for a fun, exciting, non-violent video game this is the one for you. Many different courses are available to play by yourself or with up to three other people. This is a definite must have for any Nintendo enthusiast!

William and Jimmy love it!

It's an absolutely fun game, need a lot of work to beat it. My 9 and 5 years old boys and their friends are crazy about it. It's better than the other games like Yoshi story, Diddy Kong racing and Pokemon Snap.

Multiplayer couldn't be any better

"Mario Kart 64" is a good update of the classic game from the Super Nintendo. It has great graphics, simple control, and it's a lot of fun. I've played this game more than I have any of my Nintendo 64 games. One night, me and my cousin played over 200 straight games in Battle Mode, it's that fun. The multiplayer racing and battle couldn't have been done any better.

"Mario Kart 64" is a classic, but it's not flawless. The 1 player game is too easy, even on 150-cc. Also, the computer racers can be almost half a lap behind you and catch up to your bumper in only a few seconds. Other than that, this game is perfect. If you have a Nintendo 64, I recommend getting "Mario Kart 64." It's one of the best multiplayer games out there.

The Nintendo 64's crowning achievement

Mario Kart 64 (Nintendo 64, 1997.) The second game in the Mario Kart series.

Ever since 1980, Mario had been the big star of the video game world. From his origin in Donkey Kong to his own wildly successful platformer series spanning three consoles, the artist formerly known as Jumpman has become a living legend in a mere decade. But come 1992, and Nintendo would put Mario in a place he had never been before - a racing game. Super Mario Kart was an instant success with gamers, and needless to say, gamers wanted more. The answer came on Nintendo's new console, the Nintendo 64. How does Mario Kart 64 measure up? Read on and find out!

THE GOOD:
-You can choose from eight different characters - Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Wario, Bowser, Toad, Donkey Kong, and Yoshi.
-Not many Mario games let you control Bowser or Wario since they're usually the villains in their respective games, but you can play as them here!
-Every character is unique in his or her own driving style. For example, Donkey Kong Jr. doesn't turn well and accelerates slowly, but his top speed is astonishingly high. On the other hand, Toad has a slow top speed but good turning and acceleration. They say variety is the spice of life - and this game proves it!
-There are two one-player modes - the Grand Prix and the Time Trials, where you can set personal records.
-There are three two-player modes- the Grand Prix, a Match Race (a race between just the two players), and the Battle Mode, where you must pop your enemies balloons with weapons and items before he or she does the same to you.
-There are three difficulty racing classes in the Grand Prix (you must unlock the third one), meaning gamers of all skill levels can play.
-Unlike the first Mario Kart game, you CAN go in reverse in this game!

THE BAD:
-The power slide, a move which is very useful, is rather tricky to learn.
-Computerized opponents pull off questionable feats rather often. They always seem to strike you with lightning or some other kind of weapon when you least expect it.
-If you have a Spiny Shell and you fire it while you're in first place, it comes back and hits you!? WTF!?
-Some stage's obstacles (penguins, chomps, Thwomps, etc.) are VERY annoying.
-The graphics are a pitiful attempt at full 3D. The characters look nice, but drive up to any wall or object and you'll see the lack of detail.
-For some odd reason, the Thwomps in this game (and Super Mario 64 and the original Super Mario Kart) don't have spikes! Isn't that what made them so threatening in the first place? Not really a game flaw, but I just HAD to say SOMETHING!
-Magikoopa, a playable character in a beta version of the game, didn't make it into the final version of the game. Damn!

OVERALL:
If you've got a Nintendo 64 that's just gathering dust, and you want one of the best possible games available for it, I strongly recommend picking up Mario Kart 64. Though I had initial doubts about this game, it shattered all of them (this was my favorite game for MANY years!) The Mario name means quality - enough said.

I got this game in '97 and it is still fun to play. Unlike the original Mario Kart for the SNES or the new Mario Kart Super Circuit for the GBA (both of these games you have to use a control pad to drive)you can use the control stick on the N64 controller ot drive your go-kart which is a hundred times easier than a control pad. The game is easy in the begining, but it hets much harder as you get closer to finishing it. The graphics are spectacular, and so is the music. In one course you can go off roading and drive around and look at Princess Toadstool's castle form Super Mario 64! The tracks are cleverly designed and all to often you'll find yourselft barely winning or completing a race. The game does offer a good challenge with eight drivers to choose from which onclude the following and their speed: Mario average, Luigi average, Peach average, Toad fast, Yoshi fast, Donkey Kong slow, Wario slow, Bowser slow. The speeds come to play in the later levels where only Toad and Yoshi are your best bet for first place. Again with the GBA and the Gamecube (which launched today as I am writing this) Mario Kart 64 is a must have for N64 owners who can't get the Gamecube or the GBA for now. Also each character has his or her own course and the game has race and battle multiplayer modes where in the battle mode each racer has three balloons arround his or her go-kart and everyone has to try to knock out everyones balloons. Have fun!

Mario Kart 64 is quite possibly the best racing game I have ever played, the game play is exciting, the game has replay value to boot and the viriety of racing tracks and difficulty levels make this game fun to play over and over again. The graphics are okay too, but they still leave somthing to be desired.

If you liked Mario Kart for the Super Nintendo, then you will love Mario Kart 64.

This is an amazing game. One of the best for the 64. If you have competition around you can take up hours of play time.

I have played this game almost as much as I have Golden Eye 64, but not quite as much. If you are looking for a good quality game with a very high replay value then this is a great game to check out.

Doesn't matter if you are 10 or 70 you can get into this game. The multi-player makes things a little bit more interesting. The battle mode is the best feature if you have equal level competition.
