Simply Addicting

Mario Kart: 64. It is such an improvement from the Super Nintendo version. The graphics are quite detailed in comparison to the other 64 games out. I would say, above average. However, the graphics is not what sets this game off above the others. It is the enjoyment level!

Not only is it fun to compete with others like your family, friends, or even the computer player (AI) but it's got a great Grand Prix mode in which you can compete for a Gold Cup. Get all gold Cups and you gain a bonus.

The only complaint I have about this game, (reason why I gave it a four instead of a 5) is that the AI are too smart. Races sometimes seem to be unfair. You throw items at them, knock them to the side, speed ahead of them and it seems like whatever you do, it doesn't matter. This can be frustrating. Though the controls are WAY improved over the Super Nintendo version, it still is hard to control the carts (karts) around corners.

Overall, this is an addicting game.

Have a Super Nintendo? Buy Mario Kart for Super Nintendo
Have a Gamecube? Definetely buy Mario Kart: Double Dash for Gamecube.

And finally, if you have a N64, Mario Kart 64 is one to deeply consider

Great Game but too easy

This is a very fun game to play. Although some people think it's childish, that is what adds to the fun of the game. It wasn't meant to be a simulation. This game was really fun to play when I first got it, but it was easy and I beat all the cups quickly on all engine size levels. However, playing with a couple friends keeps the fun going.

Mario Racing

This game has many different levels as well as many different courses, for hours of endless racing between up to four persons on a quad configured screen. One, however, must keep their eyes on their own racer, otherwise you will go from 1st to 8th in a heartbeat. No person who can operate the controller can go wrong. Sugggested for Ages 5 and up .. Get in the seat and drive !

Wow by the look on the price on amazon this game is like almost 30 bucks but I got this game at block busters used like new for 6 bucks damn. This game was so fun that anytime I play this game I don't even realize the hours I spent playing it. I love the levels especially toads turnpike They also made the weapons more useful than the super NES version and the battle mode scene for 2 to 4 players was more fun with the obstacle mazes to hide from your enimies and even the levels were awesome too. This is truly an awesome fun game. Any owner of an N64 should own this game.

Disappointing, not as good as the SNES Mario Kart.

I reserved this game long before it came out, because Super Mario Kart for SNES is one of my top five games of all time. This game is definately NOT as good. Here's why:

BATTLE MODE: Yeah, this has a 4-player battle mode, which is pretty cool. However, the arenas are too big, and the racers hardly ever get close to each other. The original Mario Kart had smaller battle mode arenas, which are very cool because you come in contact a lot more often. That is a lot more fun than driving around for 5 minutes before catching anyone (which happens a lot in Mario Kart 64).

PLAY CONTROL: When you try to turn normally in this game, you end up turning pretty sharply and you lose quite a bit of speed. However, you can overcome this by sliding in your turns, which doesn't slow you down too much. The part that I REALLY hate is that you can get a mini-boost from turning. What's up with that? I think this adds unneccessary complexity to the game. Why can't I just steer like in a normal go-kart? That's what you do in the SNES version: you steer normally, slowing down before you turn. And if there's a sharp turn, you can use the sliding technique. Very simple, very fun. Just like chess, its easy to learn but takes time to master (ok, its not even 1/10 as hard as mastering chess!).

DIFFICULTY: I beat this game in 2 days, no sweat. The computer isn't very hard. The original Mario Kart took me a lot longer to beat (those 150cc opponents were TOUGH!).

WEAPONS: I hate the triple red shell. Its so cheap! I feel bad when I beat someone by hitting them with 3 of those things. I know that not all the weapons can be equally good, but there isn't that nice balance the SNES Mario Kart had. The Mario Kart 64 arenas don't have many walls, so if you're being hunted with a red shell, you're in for some big trouble.

GRAPHICS: Okay, I'll give the N64 version a little credit, it does have better graphics. Those visual sound effects look kind of stupid, though (and I usually like anything that mimics the '60s Batman show).

SOUND: Two words: annoying voices. There's nothing worse than hearing someone with that super mushroom. ''Here we go! Here we go! Yahoo! Yahoo! Here we go!...''

Okay, I'm done bashing this game. It's not bad, but its nowhere near as good as the original. Oh yeah, another thing I don't like: no Koopa Troopa!

A game definently worth the money

When my sister first bought this game, I thought that it would be really boring, because it looked babyish. But when I tried it, it was really cool. There are 16 different tracks that are the best in multiplayer. This game might look boring, but it is definently worth the money.

Racing at its best

The winning formula of racing with items from Super Mario Kart for the SNES has been implemented yet again. This N64 version is perfect. Graphics, music, play control, fun factor, all perfect. You've got to love the multi player feature too. Not only can you race up to four friends on any of the tracks using any of eight drivers, but you can also participate in a battle mode. It's games like this that keep the industry rolling. You may not be able to find this game anymore, but you have to try to, its that good.

Fun video game!!

Mario Kart 64 is an excellent game! I love the graphics, the creators at Nintendo 64 made them very specific. My favorite modes to play in are either Mario GP, because I love racing against the computer, or Battle, because you have to be alert and careful not to run into in obstacles like bananas or shells! I really like the "ghost" so you can see whether or not you beat your previous time with that course. My favorite course is Yoshi Valley because in many areas, there are no walls to keep you from falling, so it's a challenge, and I like the big squasher egg! The one thing that drives me crazy is the fact that the computer can manage to get in front of me while racing without me noticing or even knowing how they did it! Other than that, this is a great game with excellent graphics and fun for the whole family!! I hope you enjoyed my review!!

The Game of 1997!

People say GoldenEye was a much multiplayer than this game, but I've spent more happy hours racing my friends in Mario Kart 64 than blowing people up with proximity mines in the Complex in GoldenEye.

Lots of people extol the graphics in GoldenEye, but graphics in Mario Kart 64 is better. First of all, it has a lower polygon count and the characters look much better. The gameplay is simple, but that only means it's easier to learn. The card that comes with the game tells you everything you need to know so all you have to do is plop the game inside the console and start playing.

So the characters don't say much. It's mainly just a simple "Yippee!" or "I'm-a Wario and I'm-a gonna win!," but there's much more in-game speech than GoldenEye. Sound effects are fine too. The soundtrack is excellent. It ranges from coutry to smooth jazz. Even some major critics of video game music I know have said that the music here is great. You know Koji Kondo's doing something right hearing that.

Mario Kart 64 is addicting with four players, and it can be addicting with one player too. The Time Trials may be a little disappointing, but the Mario GP had me coming back for more.

The game is one of the best racing games on the N64. It's better than WaveRace, Diddy Kong Racing, F-Zero X, and even Excitebike 64. Heck it's one of the best games on the N64! If you haven't played this game, then you don't know what you're missing.

mario kart possibly the best racer for the n64

Mario Kart on the n64 is an extremly well made game. when one person plays the game for the first time the controls are easy and you don't nead to worry about changing gears. After you get better you can move on to harder levels of play. once you beat the game on 150cc (hardest level) you can race al track in mirror mode (all tracks have opposite turns then their original tracks). the ads more replay value because the game in a sence has new tracks. All the tracks are unique and have varied difficulty levels. they are also well designed.

The graphics in mario kart are bright simple and full of color. the music in the game is not very good but it does not mater because of the great sound effects provided by the characters.

As with all great n64 games this one accells in the multiplayer department. It will appeal to people of all ages. you can choose from 3 different multiplayer modes battle championship single race. The most fun out of all of those is batlle because you go around getting items then try to hit your friends with any item you get. if you hit your'e oponent they'll lose a balloon they have 3 ballons.

This is a party game i would recommend over any mario party game and definitly over didy kong racing. this is a classic n64 game no one shoild be without.
