This game is officially really, really weird.

Donkey Kong Country holds a special place in my heart as one of my favorite series of all time. Here, Rare has carried the series into 3D. But something happened along the way. It kind of became a Banjo-Kazooie clone, with the distinction of being less fun and more weird. Seriously, this game has an odd sense of humor that I don't quite get. Somebody at Rare was really off his rocker on this one. For example, the entire opening sequence is super-dramatic and intense...in a kind of mocking way. Then there's the totally bizarre characters such as Lanky Kong. There's really, really disturbing boss fights with possessed giant toys and cardboard cut-outs. The final boss is in a boxing ring and is equally strange. I got a really weird vibe from this game, and I didn't enjoy it as much as Banjo-Kazooie or -Tooie. Still, it's got Rare's level of quality and charm at least.

Way too hard

I'm a huge DK fan. Only reason I got N64 was to play more DK. This game is way too hard. All you do is search and search and search some more. If you ever do accomplish anything there is little or no reward. It is boring and frustrating at the same time. I'm very disappointed.

Three cheers for DK and RARE

This game is da bomb. The battle modes are genius. There is no bad thing with this perfect game. The DK crew rules I like Tiny, I love their rap. The minigames and plot add to the perfection. I love the moves that the kongs can do. If your looking for the N64 game of the year , your search is done. Three cheers for DK and RARE!

One of the best video games of all time!

Donkey Kong 64 probably has the best graphics of any N64 game. It completely lives up to the original Super Nintendo Donkey Kongs. All the levels are fantastically planned out and the gameplay is not too hard or easy. The game is so large you can play it for years and still not have everything collected. Probably my favorite N64 game along with the Banjo-Kazooie games.

Rare out does themselves with this work of art

This game is, in simplistic terms, WONDERFULL. DK64 features kick a** graphics, a huge world, 5 different Kongs to choose from and, oh yeah, TONS of bannanas to collect. When I was 10 or so, I didn't like this game, but now that I'm 13 (and not so intimidated by the enemies) I simply love this game. Rare outdoes themselves, and after playing through 5 hours of this game and finding out rare was bought by Microsoft, it brought a tear to my eye. Alas, what will the dk game be like on the Gamecube without Rare? I fear DK will meet its end on the gamecube, cuz the loss of rare will probably distroy this game. After all, twas not rare's talent to make origional, innovative, games, but thier talent to greatly improve, sophisticate, and better already great games.

Oh enough babbaling, I really should get back to the game in question. DK64's story is simple. K. Rool wants to take over the world, but he knows he stands NO chance in a head to head brawl with the great Kong himself, so he concocs a genious skeam (OK not really that thoughtful) To buy time for his little toy to start working so he can blow up DK isles, he steals Donkey's golden Bannana Hord, and Kidnaps the other kongs. He locks them up in certain levels, and its only through team work, persistance, and a lot of kremling extermination can they all be freed, and then its time to take on the evil lizard himself. Of course there are other characters. Cranky will sell u potions, Funkey will Sell you weapons, Candy will teach you musical instroments, and a mysterious Weasel named Snide who was former Pro rool and now has revenge on his mind. But why is he collecting Blueprints? I guess we'll find out later...

This game might be long, intimidating and rough, but I have to admit, there wasn't one time when I felt forced to play or when I wasn't having fun.

It would be impossible to sum up in 1000 words how great this game is, or why I am addicted to it, but you should find out for yourself. If worse comes to worse and Babbages or Electronics Boutique doesn't have it, check EBay. Whatever you do, DON'T miss out on this game. It will add years of fun to an already great system.

P.S. I strongly recommend a strategy guide. I have Prima's, which is a little confusing, but any one will do.

This is a great game that makes you think. You need to be smart to beat this one, and quick.

Salvaging a gamer

It has been a long time since I was a gamer, but now I am back. I bought a Playstation about 2 years ago, solely for the lure of a few games. Then just this past Christmas, my girlfriend gave me an N64/Donkey Kong 64 package. I can honestly say that this was the best thing for the gaming console side of my life. I have completed approx. 20% of the game, but it is the only game I am going to play until I finish it. If this game brought me back to the world of Nintendo, Mario, Link, Donkey Kong and Miyamoto, why can't it do the same for you?

I was really looking forward to trying this game so I was pretty disappointed when I played it. The controls on this game are terrible as is the camera angle. There's a very brief tutorial at the beginning of the game but I didn't find it very helpful. You're given a briefing on what you're supposed to do and what your goals are but I didn't find that helpful either. This is one game that I would not recommend to anyone.

This game's ok

It's fun when you first start playing but the more you play the more boring it gets! But it is also very challenging.
